With no sound in games, you could better type a letter in word, just as entertaining :P.
I use Guitar Pro... You can make simple tabs with it which you can export as a midi, you have to know something about tabs for guitars by the way. There are probably better programs out there...
A midi keyboard and Voyetra Plus! Yay o.o
I use Cakewalk Express and Noteworthy Composer. Both of the programs aren't necessarily inexpensive...although there is a demo version of Noteworthy that you can download. Both programs require somewhat the ability to read notation before you can do much of anything, so depending on your experience they may not be for you. I like 'em though!

I always use cubase for game music and my owns songs, great programme, but it takes some time to get the hang of it
I`ve used Melody Assistant, its good.
I use Cakewalk Pro 9. It's the best for me. But you must have a midi keyboard to work correctly(i mean that with blocks you can make mistakes, and it is getting boring quickly)
Now, if u don't have a midi keyboard, i would suggest Guitar Pro 8 or Band in a box
whoops :)
forgot to say... cubase supports midi keyboards. I always use my synthesizer for making songs (which ufcuz supports midi)
but you can make your music quite good without a keyboard, it just takes a lot more time.
Cubase is without question one of the best sequencers there is, but its price isn't exactly low either. A good keyboard is more important, so if you have a limited amount of money I recommend that you first get a keyboard and then get a sequencer with the money you have left. The cheaper programs are still usable, even if they don't have Cubase's features.
Another option is to use a music notation program. If you know music notation, they are easier to work with than a sequncer (at least, that's my experience as a music student). Finale and Sibelius are the best ones. Here, I don't really recommend the cheaper programs, since they are not as usable as the big ones.
did you think I bought cubase?
Oufcourse I did ;)

I thought 4 was the newest version, or did I missed something?
Having a keyboard or knowing notation isn't that important. I believe most Cakewalk products have a simple piano roll view which makes it easy to place notes at any note or length. Complete control. It's not that tedious if you copy-drag any parts that loop. I'd look into getting one of the simpler, cheaper Cakewalk products.
magix music maker :P
<serious mode>
okay
I just had this thought, I played pleurghburg the other thay and I really liked the music. I think we all are forgetting that the .mod or .xm files still rock. Think of all the old epic games which had great music imo.
You might try MODPlug tracker for these jobs. I think the mods are still great :)
Reminding me of fast tracker 2 and scream tracker 3 a few years ago
okay, now m0ds, don't get overexited ;)

Yeah i'm pretty sure ver 4 is the latest. I've only just got that program.
Cubase is a really good program, but i think its pretty expensive...
photoshop is expensive too, and it seems like everyone has it.....
now how is that ;)
No I don't have Photoshop...... Should I be expelled ?
;D
yea you should! ;)
/me expells gilbot
I found out how to make midis in Fruity Loops 3! It's a very good program.
Fruity loops?
isn't that a 'loop' program, which you could also call a drumcomputer?
I have tried that and the only thing I got were some... um, fruity loops 8)
boom tiki tik, tiki boom tiki tik, tiki boomtiki tik tiki (loop 20 times)
-dough - dough
Hey I don't really know about FL :)
Say it if I'm wrong
Well, it's Fruity Loops! Okay, check this out: http://www.fruityloops.com/
You may have tried it with it's drum samples which are there when you start the program :P I can't explain it ;)

I hope you get viruses and spyware aswell.
I have a midi out/input on my amp. (Line 6 Flextone XL ;D) OK, I'm just showing off now! :'(
I got fruityloops now, but i have NO idea how to make midi :D
I've had it with midi. >:(. i've got noteworthy, fruityloops, guitar pro 4, and out of the first to, i cant even get one friggin bleep. I now tabs, but i hate the G-string (omg, i just KNOW that isnt the real word for that thing :D) .. *nederlanders, de g sleutel, dat ding wat de g aangeeft bij een notentabel*.. How much oes a midi keyboard cost ?
My copy of Cubase came with a physical device you have to plug into a serial port, otherwise it doesn't work. How did those of you who have copied versions get around that? I guess there are probably cracked versions.
Anyway, anyone know of any good Cubase tutorials on the web? I've been incredibly busy and haven't had the time I'd like to explore the program, but I'll have a lot more time starting in a few weeks and I'd really like to get to know the software better.
remixor, lol, your version sounds from the atari-age :)
but you could be correct, there are cracks for the illegal versions (I'm ashamed to say I use illegal too) - I bought cubasis audio lite, but it was a bitch for me, too dang old and not enough features.... It cost me so much that I didn't want to afford the FULL version :o
Cubase is an excellent program, I love it.
N3T: I bought my version new from an educational software retailer last year (Version 5.0, copyright 2001), so I hope it's not from the atari age ;)
lol, no I kinda figured,
At my music school there is an old atari computer, you need to plug a thingamajig in there so it will work, kinda fun actually.
Version 5.0, I pray it is VST! :)
Yep, it's VST
Here is one from MIT that was made for small children. I haven't had a chance to try it, but since I have veryy little musical ability I thought this would be for me. If anyone takes the time to try it out let us know what you think about it.
Hyper Score (http://amoxifen.media.mit.edu/hyperscore/featured_scores.php)
MADTRACKER 2! yesss... best mod/xm tracker..imo
hmmmm, Maybe I'll get in the tracker scene once again....
has anyone got a good recource for instruments and stuff?
for what kind of music do u mean?
uhm
game music :)
chip mods or industrial electronic stuff? you know.. there is lots n lots of genres in games toooo..
well dunno actually
All I guess
then just go to:
http://www.modarchive.com
got modtracker 2. but yet again, cant get a beep out of it yet :)
I use Sibelius 2. But then, I compose what people usually call 'classical music'.
to get midi with FruityLoops you need to use the Fruity LSD plugin/filter, you need to setup a port in your settings (usually 001) then set any midi channel you make port 001, then it'll come through your soundcard rather than your proper midi port, it's pretty simple to use... if you get stuck, read the manual...
I personally use Cubase SX for all midi stuff, mainly because I use VSTs. Anything that can save a midi file is good though... check out Jazz++ (I think) as it's free, Cakewalk as it's cheap and easy to use, or Cubase/Logic/Sibelius if you have the money or don't mind warezing.

I uploaded cubase for you you ape! :)
