When you lose that edgy feeling...

I tend to listen to podcasts rather than music when performing menial chores.  The few concerning the gaming industry usually tend to motivate me.  Likewise reading success stories about indie devs has a way of getting the spark back (not to mention the prospect of earning a few pounds in the process).

Also, writing out a list of goals and then crossing them off one by one helps provide a sense of achievement and progress, as does incrementing a progress completion percentage.

Having a development blog can help by dripfeeding you encouragement.  The occasional kind word from an interested stranger can do wonders; knowing that others are looking forward to the end result of your labours is very motivating.

But what to do if the only encouraging words you get on the blog are from your mum and other comments are from people who can't get the demo working, or are unable to work out the interface?

Nothing else for it: Replace the custom interface with SCUMM, then tell everyone about it by spamming numerous gaming forums until even your blood relatives tire of your blatant disregard for netiquette.

Mr Flibble

I read Retro Gamer magazine's articles about bedroom programmers from the 80s, people doing what we're doing now but usually to a full-scale commerical release and a proper career in programming.
Ah! There is no emoticon for what I'm feeling!

I haven't written a single piece of code for any AGS project I've started in three years. I always get sick of drawing backgrounds, try a walkcycle, give up and just lose all momentum.

So at least you have something you can boot up in AGS...
