Which of these adventures should I play next?

Before I begin, I apologise if this thread belongs to the General Discussion fourm, since it's fairly random, but I figured that it does have to do with adventures, so I figured I'd post it here. Anyway!

Recently I've bought several old games through the internet, but I didn't have enough time to play them, and this ended with me having such a huge list of games to play that I don't know where to begin. So I could use some ideas from you guys, because, knowing me, I'll end up not playing any of them. In any case, here are the games:

Beneath a Steel Sky (I didn't buy the game, just downloaded the ScummVm version)
Blade Runner
Bureau 13
Discworld
Quest for Glory 1 and 4.
Ringworld
Sanitarium

There are also a couple more (Hell, Kyrandia 3), but seeing as I can't get them to run on XP without sacrificing sound, I'll wait til I get back my oldschool AMD K5 at 100Mhz to play them.

Any opinions are more than welcome.

(edit) Oops, forgot Discworld.

Quest for Glory IV (4)!

That game is great. Or... I think it was IV that I had... Maybe it was III... Yeah, I just checked. I had III. But I bet IV is just as good.

I absolutely loved Blade Runner and thorougly enjoyed BASS.. haven't played much (if any) of the others

Play Quest for Glory IV, Beneath a Steel Sky, then Discworld, in that order. Blade Runner is sort of meh, and Bureau 13 is quite good, as is Quest for Glory I. You'll have to choose what order to play those in yourself. As for Ringworld and
Sanitarium, I never played them, so I can't really judge.

I think Blade Runner is great - atmospheric as all hell, and very replayable due to the different endings and random factors and so on. It's also nice to see a point and click adventure that mostly breaks from the traditional "find item/use item" puzzle system.

Beneath A Steel Sky's a nice Broken Sword style thing. The story isn't that remarkable but the whole thing's so polished it doesn't matter that much. And hey, the backgrounds are drawn by Dave Gibbons, who drew "Watchmen" - the single greatest thing ever. Also: Using CAPITALISATION for EMPHESIS is COOL.

Discworld is entertaining enough, but some of the puzzles are obtuse in the extreme, and I personally think overdoes it with the amount of whimsical dialogue that doesn't go anywhere. And you'll want to kill Eric Idle after the ten thousandth time you hear him say "That doesn't work". It looks really nice, though, and has some wonderful music.

Haven't played any of those other games, though.

AGA

Surely Broken Sword is BaSS-style, not vice versa (since BaSS came out first) :P

PaulSC

Well... yep you're exactly right.Ã,  ;) I knew it was older, but I only played through BASS for the first time the other week, and was just thinking how similar the style was to BS. Damn my fool brain!

Timosity

out of those I've only played, BASS, Quest for glory I (Hero's Quest), and Quest for Glory IV

Thought Bass was pretty ordinary, glad it was just downloaded, but the Quest for glories are awesome, (Hero's Quest is the best one [whether it's the original or the remake] and QG4 is pretty good too)

it depends on whether you want to play the best one first or save it for a rainy day.

Blade Runner is awesome! I personally think that the game is better than the movie!
I absolutely liked the 3D photographs, where you have you look behind the corner of the photo! Real nifty technology there!

I've been playing "Private Eye", yesterday and really like that one, though there aren't much puzzles...

Mr Jake

Id probably play Bladerunner cause Id be inpressed by the number of discs and wanna play it :) but I also like BaSS, I completed is again just a little while ago (like, on Monday)

Id probably play BaSS first

Timosity

Just on a similar topic

I played Broken Sword 2 for the first time a little while ago and I thought it was great, I'd like to get a copy of the First one (I'll have to look on Ebay)

So I bought BS3, I haven't had time to play it yet, I've watched the intro and had a short go (the interface will take some getting used to [damn the laziness of creating cross platform games, surely it's not too hard to create mouse support]) but it looks good so far.

I also bought CSI & CSI:dark motives packaged together, just for the hell of it about 3 months ago and I still haven't even loaded them onto my computer, but if ever I get bored one day and feel like playing something new, at least its there.

But Lazy Z, I'd also definately download "Flight of the Amazon Queen" if you haven't played it, it's also a free one that you can get through the scummvm site and is much better than BASS. (and of course that's just my opinion)

Mr Jake

I played FotAQ and it was ok, I didnt play it all, might DL it and finish it, I enjoy games like BASS alot more that games like FotAQ tbh

Lazy Z

Thanks for the replies so far, guys. Timosity, you can find Broken Sword on budget from the company Sold Out, for like 9 euros. Check their website (should be soldout.co.uk, but I'm not sure). I've also downloaded FotAQ, but it doesn't really seem like my cup of tea, so I'll play it after I'm done with these games.

QuoteAlso: Using CAPITALISATION for EMPHESIS is COOL.

Heh, I played a bit of BaSS and that annoyed me SO. MUCH. Nobody uses emphasis in EVERY. SENTENCE. Ahem, sorry. :P

Mr Jake

its not only that, but words which are useless such as 'THE' and 'USE' are in caps aswell :/ it gets rather annoy, BaSS 2 might be: 'HeLlO lOnG tImE nO sEe' for example D

Adamski

Offtopic, but PaulSC gets a million points for having Geogaddi cover art as his avatar.

TheDude

I'd play BASS then Blade Runner. The CAPS in BASS never really bothered me much, i thought it was fine :)

Rincewind

Ooh, I'd recommend Discworld first of course... :D Though I do think that DW1 can be a wee bit slow and not quite as good as DW2 and Noir.
...Still, it's Discworld, 'innit?

BaSS comes second - I like it very much, despite THE emphasis ON some words, that never BOTHERED me MUCH. It has a great atmosphere, with good music and cyberpunk graphics...Ã,  Ã,

Blade Runner is great, just sat down and tried to find all the different endings in it recently... Not a masterpice, but I enjoyed it.

The rest of them I haven't played, so I can't say... :)
