Title: Win a cameo in the Ben There, Dan That! sequel!
Post by: thezombiecow on Thu 09/10/2008 12:25:30
(http://www.zombie-cow.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/10/your_face_here_01.jpg)

That's right: there is going to be a sequel to Ben There, Dan That! (http://www.zombie-cow.com/btdt) after all, even though I totally can't afford it! It's going to be better and tighter, more gorgeous and more puzzley than ever before.

What's more, I'm giving away the opportunity to get your ugly mug in the game, playing the character of your dreams.

All you have to do is come up with an interesting character that you’d play, someone fitting of the nonsense BTDT Universe.

Full details are here (http://www.zombie-cow.com/?p=336) - if you're going to enter, please do leave your entry at the Zombie cow comments section/ forums, and not here, in case I miss them. And so I can contact you easily.

Hmm, are the few snooty humourless ***** here eligible? And will it be written in the fairly-shitty pointy-clicky generator, AGS?

Rich, you know better than to use words like that!!!  := -- Mods

No snooty humourless *****, please, but it is being written in the fairly-shitty and bug-ridden AGS, so there's a plus.

Dude, language please!!!! :P -- Mods

So why use such a fairly-shitty bug-ridden program at all?  Are you truly as stupid as you are obnoxious?

Is that even possible?

I feel like I'm missing some context here.

zombiecow's comment was a frustrated retort to a frankly petty post, that was wildly off topic and should have been moderated.

On topic:
I would be a character with 100 snakes for his hair, 8 robot legs and a holographic heart. I walk around the game smashing everything, in gloriously animated and completely individually scripted destruction sequences. The snakes all talk when I talk, and the holographic heart beats with a highly realistic animation. The robots legs help me to walk along a bit like Doc Oc does in Spiderman 2, when he only uses his tentacles.

Thought I'd keep the workload small for you. I know how much you love animation, Dan!

Zombie Cow made Ben There, Dan That in AGS, then made disparaging remarks (as referenced by TR) about the application and this community on some other forums. The insults were clearly jokey, but perhaps still meant seriously? In any case, some people were offended.

The fact is, as everyone should be aware, different forum communities have a different...erm...audience and therefore you tend to coordinate yourself differently given who posts, how well they know you and so on, etc. For example there is a forum I co-run which is very much "be nice to everyone, have fun and go 'awwww' a lot", and there are others where I might call people a bunch of **** a lot, and vent steam when someone irks me, or make jokes that people on forum A might find highly questionable. They are both me, both aspects of my personality, but never the twain shall meet.

Anyone who knows Dan, even a *tiny* bit, would not get at all (or negligably) insulted if he said those exact words about any of their stuff. It's just his way, as he's a grumpysocks journo by nature. Yet he's a lovely bloke. Just anonymously posting a link to that thread on BTDT completed games thread, then dragging up the quote again in every one of his other posts, is a tad harsh as none of the many nice things he's said about AGS have ever been quoted, nor any indication that the comments were at all in jest, or partly so.

And hell, are you saying AGS has never fu**ed you right off? I think AGS is fantastic, but on several occasions I've screamed at it and got REALLY frustrated about it... as it is in some respects bug-ridden and fairly shitty. Why? Cause one guy is doing all the development on it. He's done a great job on it too! But there are always going to be bugs, and things that frustrate the user. Even in things like Visual Studio that have hundreds of developers working on them. Somehow I doubt someone would get under your skin quite so much if they called Visual Studio Express "bug ridden and fairly shitty", in jest or not.

People are still entitled to get annoyed by it and make a sarky comment on another forum about it without being painted as some kind of bastard...

So to sum up. Why not let that quote die already?

-- ON TOPIC --

I guess I would be a Lemming looking for hidden suicide messages in Motorhead tracks or something. Or not. That would be rubbish. Damn I shoulda thought this peripherery on-topic bit through more! ;)

I think we were a little bit too hostile than needed. I'm not really the one to judge Rich, and he's a swell guy, so I'm not, I'm supporting the guy, in the meantime even if Terran has misunderstood, you zombiecow should have actually not. And smileys should be used in such occasions, since they're actually representing human emotions.

Having used AGS to make a game, he's well qualified to comment on the shittiness or otherwise of it.

It's not like a politician coming out and slating a video game for corrupting our children when it turns out that they haven't even played it themselves!

:D

Anyway, back to the topic in hand ... the competition!

Tis the nature of t'internet, ain't it? Quotes can surface and bite you on the ass, regardless of context. It's right there on page one of The Big Book of Common Sense: Gormless Gobshite (Yes, Dan, This Means You!) Edition. Why engage in the language of the guttersnipe in the first place? Tsk.

For shame, Dan.

And where's my apology, because I know that "koontz" remark was partly aimed at me, you big dirty fucker!

...

I would like to play Irish transsexual bandstand-designer, Ms Fagina Nobels. I don't photograph well, so you'll have to imagine a large (bearded) man-child.

With old-timey cannons for arms.

I wanna play an ostrich like guy who recently had a near death experience which changed his life.
He's still a bit shaky, but in his pale face you can see the glance of fanatism. So  every day he's standing in the rain, convincing people to read/buy religious magazines (I'm having a certain magazin containing the word tower in mind).
Actually it only rains where he stands, because the rival god is just a tiny bit pissed about what he's doing.
Could also be possible that a thunderbold might bring him another not so near death experience.

If you like the idea, I might provide a sketch.

How aboooout...

- I'm a cow wearing a chicken mask, desperately encouraging people to eat beef, because I'm really suicidal.  After being exposed I could chase people screaming at them to eat me.  Maybe I have teat cancer.

- I'm a hulking, bald, scary crazy cannibal man with big staring eyes, one larger than the other, dressed like a nanny.  I'm trying to get strangers passing by to leave their babies with me...their sweet...tender...*gmnph-droool*  "Maybe baby would like a bottle."  "Wait, what is this?"  "Ehm...steak sauce."

- A Sexual Education Clown, with instructional balloon sculpting.
