Would you like a remake of Maniac Mansion?

I have played both Maniac Mansion and Day of the Tentacle and suddenly I have been thinking of making a remake of Maniac Mansion by using Day of the Tentacle sprites and draw sprites of the other MM characters in DOTT version. I thought maybe it's a good idea but I have been also thinking some other things. Maybe I should slightly change things so they're not 100 % exaclty like the orginal MM, like getting rid of the possiblity of exploding the hamster in the microwave (it's so disgusting!) and change the sequirty door puzzle and maybe some other stuff but I'm going to keep many things like you can select the kids and different possibilites like the differnt way to get into the lab and so on.

Now I like to hear your opinions about this. What do you think? Do think that it the remake must be 100 % like the original MM or do you think it's okay to change stuff? Don't be afraid to tell me your opinions.

100%, definitely, don't mess with a classic. Although you could leave the security door out, a lot of original MM versions didn't include it anyway.

Would you be doing the graphics yourself? 'Cause from what I've seen of your art, it's not exactly up to DotT standards...

Please don't do this. Maniac Mansion is so close to perfect (in fact, I'd rather see DOTT done in the MM style than the other way around), and I doubt you'd be able to manage scripting all the multiple-solutions. The only reason I could see for remaking this would be to get better quality music (either re-orchestrated midis or digital). But I think you should re-use the old graphics, or some slightly updated ones a la the VGA version of Zak McKracken.

The game is fine and the graphics of the enhanced version are perfectly fine too IMO:

My informations say that that project is currently under developement, I can't say more, but the person in charge of the project is a person who should have totally confidence...  :)
Are you guys ready? Let' s roll!

I'd like a version of Maniac Mansion made whereby I cannot get fucking stuck in 2000 different ways, but that is just me, apparently.

Yes, it is; I think it may have something to do with the fact that you're a stupid bastard.

Well thanks, Mark! That's going to go down well with the M0dster Shippers!

Whilst I respect the game for it's immense non linearity and multiple paths, only nostalgia can excuse all the walking deads.

I'd have to say no. Leave it be. Why remake a classic when it's already perfect? Yeah, it could do without a few things, but isn't that true with almost any game?

Running the risk of being banned forever from this community, or so it seems, I'd say have a go at it. I'm all for remakes, if they're good enough. And if you can kill all those walking deads, go ahead and remake Zak MacKracken while you're at it!

Problem here is that you've floated the idea of a remake. If you'd make it and then release it without much consultation, everyone would gush about how good it is. It happened to Spyros as well as Tierra.

Really, just ignore everything that anyone has to say unless it's in the crit forum. Do what you think right.

Nine Toes

I'd say go for it.  I like the idea.

I don't suppose anybody knows where I could download the original, though?  I haven't played that game in years...
Watch, I just killed this topic...

Don't get yourself too ecstatic, m0ds; he'll come crawling RIGHT back when he realises that you're flat-chested.

There already is a 256-colour version of Zak, made by LucasArts themselves

I know, AGA. I said,

" And if you can kill all those walking deads, go ahead and remake Zak MacKracken while you're at it! "

I was refering to the walking deads in Zak. If it doesn't have any, then I guess I'm really a bad player!

Oh I see. Well yeah, it does have a couple, but they are pretty common sense, to be fair. The only really bad one is the having no tokens on Mars one...
