Yersinia 13
(https://pbs.twimg.com/media/CYWFKhxWkAA53nc.png:large)
(Just a small pic for fun)
I have a rather ambitious Dustbowl 2 in mind.
But I guess/feel I should make a game between Dustbowl and Dustbowl 2, a kind of transition not related to Dustbowl.
The idea is a medieval survival game set during Black Death (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_Death) in Europe around 1350.(Are you surprised by the MAGS theme?! :D)
Roughly, take Dustbowl features, improve and add some and write a totally new story.
I plan to switch to side-scrolling and 16bits/Amiga-ish gfx.
(So it won't be a kind of DLC but a real new game.)
As I already said here and there, I'll do my next games with players, for players.
So let's discuss about all this together! ;)
I started a discussion on steam:
http://steamcommunity.com/app/367110/discussions/0/451850213952145220/ (http://steamcommunity.com/app/367110/discussions/0/451850213952145220/)
Maybe you think the idea is bad and you won't play such a game?
Maybe you have ideas, do's and dont's, etc.?
I'll be glad to hear your opinions. :)
Thx for your support and cya!
Dos: DO IT!
Dont's: Don't stop working on it! (laugh)
Good luck with the project!

It's a bit short, but it's always good to read! :D
Well, if I have 2000 comments like this, be sure I'll do the project.^^
(Btw, did you play Dustbowl?)
I get that you named the game from the plague bacteria called Yersinia Pestis, though whats the meaning of the number 13? Or did the number 50 fall off from the title? =)
Just out of curiosity since its an intersting time period that definatly left it's mark on the world and quite shaped europes future.
Give us screen shotz!!!!!
;-D
Good guess Mathias. ;)
13 is for around 1350 (year).
13 is a mystical number in several traditions.
13 is Death in tarot.
13 is better for referencement imo ^^
(Yersinia "alone" won't lead to the game, I guess Yersinia 13 would be better)
Mind, it's only a code name, maybe it could change.
Btw, for the moment, no screenshot because we didn't start the game.
Sorry MiteWiseacreLives! ;)
We are only studying if such game would please gamers.
So we need your words and ideas. :)
Thx for you support!
Keep brainstorming: Yersinia is coming!
(or not ^^)
I thought Dustbowl was very cool, and a really great foundation to build something a bit more complex on. I really look forward to seeing more of this!
Here is a WIP mockup :

Natural evolution: from C64 to Amiga :D
We are working on a portrait generator.
Here is a picture I tweeted (http://'https://twitter.com/DustbowlAGS/status/701101217552973824'):

Still WIP but it should be ready soonish (I guess I'll do a web version just for fun).
It looks like you've just made a character creator for either Wolfenstein 3D or Doom.
And I like it! :-D
I look forward to messing about with the web version.
Thx Danvzare!
You are not the first to mention Doom but our influences are more Amiga and The Bitmap Brothers (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Bitmap_Brothers).
I twitted 50 portraits in a gif. (https://twitter.com/DustbowlAGS/status/703625727023964161)
As Twitter has as nasty compression process, here is a better quality version:

(Loading please wait...)
The generator should be online next saturday. ;)
Here is the html portrait generator:
http://yersinia.univertgames.com/generator.htm (http://yersinia.univertgames.com/generator.htm)
We'll use it for main character and as a basis for NPC.
You can download your portrait or get a direct link and use it as an avatar: I hope to see some around. ;)
Also, if you find a nice or ugly guy, please, share it here and give him a small description and even a medieval name.
Something like: affable priest, nasty monk, sinister villain, etc.
I'll use all this for building the game. ;)
Enjoy and share! :)
Wow, that's fun to use! :-D
With no idea what to make, I decided to try my best to recreate myself, and created this (http://yersinia.univertgames.com/generator.htm#bigcihegaefejc).
Which is probably what I would look like if I was an action hero. (In other words, it's nothing like me.)
It's still really great though! :-D
Thx!
Cool!
Go on :D
We need thieves, priests, monks, rangers, paladins, fighters, doctors, etc.
Bad, good, nasty, nice, evil, holy, sad, happy, poor, hungry, angry, etc. NPC hehe
Can I suggest some lady NPCs? I mean I can't make them with the generator but an all male cast seems a bit samey unless it's super relevant to the plot? Throw some gals in the mix for fun!

Only a male character will be playable, so there will be no in-game female generator.
But as we plan to use the same system to create female NPC, we will do a female generator when all "elements" will be ready, that's a lot of work for a lonely artist hehe.
Btw, I want to thank him (Yo Riso) (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/forums/index.php?action=profile;u=15872) for those great 90' gfx. :)
This was fun! Mine's really unsettling.

Thx Gurok!
Indeed, I can't trust that guy!
Great name btw. ;)
Here a new guy for you.
http://yersinia.univertgames.com/generator.htm#gebaikjedadidf
Jake Barlow
Old war veteran.
He isn't a bad guy, but he isn't a good guy either.
Spends all his time talking about the good old days (that's right, he looks back to fighting in wars with fond memories).

Rough as a military :D
Also, Jake, one more good medieval name. ;)
I'm a bit frightened of the dark medieval age you will throw us in to survive... :(
But the prospect of another fantastic soundscape by Alexandre Sciré (http://alexandrescire.bandcamp.com/) already caught me in.

Not sure what you mean exactly.
Middle Age was not so "Dark Ages" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_Ages_(historiography)) (it's a false pejorative vision of the period).
Now, historians are far more nuanced.
But, Black Death was something very really terrible.
So much Death, pain and chaos...
People really thought it was the Apocalypse.
So yeah, Yersinia will be a harsh dark game, darker than Dustbowl for sure.
(Mind, something positive about Black Death: it helped to the decline of serfdom)

Thx for him. :)
We talked few days ago (Alexandre and me) about the music in Yersinia.
It turned in a very interesting way...
Hi there!
Yersinia has a new artist with a new style and a more appropriate mood according to me.
Here is a mockup:
Please, let me know what you think about it.
Thx and take care! ;)
droooooool :D
Ooh, that is beautiful.
That new artist really has a way with colours and texture.
The flame is a little flat though (but I'm guess it's a placeholder for something animated).
Really, really nice use of color scheme and dithering.
Thx a lot guyz!
Your comments mean a lot to me.
I was looking for a real identity for Yersinia, I guess I found it.
And I'm really glad you like it. :)
(Yeah the flame is unfinished and some parts will be reworked)
