In case you missed it, that was posted on Mixnmojo some days ago, Ron talks about Deathspank, Limbo, Roger Ebert, games as art, On Stranger Tides, POTC, Monkey Island, humor, puzzles, death in adv. games, death of adv. games, the state of the industry... all interesting stuff.

Say, since I find myself reposting a whole lot of stuff from Mixnmojo here, just so I know, is there anyone here who doesn't visit Mixnmojo?

ThreeOhFour

Thanks for posting this! (I don't usually visit Mixnmojo). I just finished the first Deathspank game a couple of days ago, and have both things I like about the game and things I dislike about it, but I am still quite interested in his thoughts as a designer.

Will definitely give this a listen later on tonight.

I actually heard of the site for the first time ever in this very threat. Dang. Seems I'm in for an archive binge.

You're in for several archive binges then. They updated their site last january, the only thing that's working right now are news and half of the media database. Their games and features section, with their extremely long LucasArts adv. games articles and columns, have not been uploaded yet.

Sweet, because I actually like binging and have constant net acess right now. And only twelve pages of Spinnerette left.
These are indeed happy times.

Ghost and CONSTANT NET ACCESS?!

That's great to hear old chap!  ;)
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

That interview is great, thanks for sharing, I don´t visit Mixnmojo much.
Anyone knows about the documentary they talk about towards the end? "Get Limb" or something like that?

Thankyou so much for this, I did not know about Gilbert's Essay, i have since saved a copy to my computer, and will use his rules as a set of guide lines for critique for beta testers on my game, Thanks heaps, very helpful!

I finally put an hour together and listened.  I thought Ron Gilbert relied a bit much on Limbo as an example of the contemporary direction of adventure games (why hasn't he played my work?!?!?!), but his insights and memories about the game making process were definitely interesting.  The "filler" for the last 20 minutes or so where the hosts just gabbed about old time adventures conjured up all kinds of old memories.
