Ok just let me tell you, I am making a parser game called Counterfeit right about now, and it's a friggin' lotta work.

I've already got 315 lines of "if (Said("etc")) {" script, and that's not even stuff which will help you complete the game! JUst look, get, talk etc. commands.

I've also only got one mouse which you can use for walking, although you can also walk with the arrow keys.

It's alot of work!

Puddin meant the particular interface of Larry 7. It's original, but I'm not sure it would really fit outside such a wacky game...

It was basically point and click - the cursor passes over a hotspot, it changes; you click, it brings up a menu with interactions you can do, all of them written, not icon-based. BUT there was an option at the very bottom of the (short) list called "other". You typed in a verb here. The game would remember it, and "other" would provide both a list of the verbs already typed and the ability to type in new verbs. LSL7 recognized a HELL of a LOT of verbs, and a few were necessary for completing the game, like the verb "milk" on the beavers.

if you ask me, part of the magic in those old games was that they didn't use eyecandy backgrounds, they just made use of the hardware that was available at the time.
why not make two short demos, one mouse driven and one with a text parser using the exact same puzzle so people can download, play and have something visual to make an opinion from?
i'd say forget about the text parser and go with mouse, but that's just me and you are you and you are the one that's making the game after all...
