Title: A New Danger (Sequel to A Night to Remember) - NEW SCREENSHOT 10.13.09
Post by: Ethan D on Wed 30/09/2009 05:24:29
My name is Nathan Carter, I was a con-man, and after eight years of retirement,
I'm bored to death.

That's right, Nathan Carter is officially back.  After attempting to relax for eight years on the coastline he has come to the conclusion that he needs excitement.  This time instead of only looking for a target that he believes is up to something illegal he now wants a challenge.  His goal is to quench his need for excitement and hopefully go on retirement for longer than eight years.

Nathan's first day back on the job:

I, Snake, have edited this post today - May 23, 2011 - to fix this screenshot (it was not showing up). I figured I'd fix it since Arj0n had linked to this in Ethan's new game's thread, The Philanthropist (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=43583.0).
The last edit before this was made by Ethan on: October 14, 2009, 01:36:24 pm

I will be adding more screen shots and information as production continues.

Credits:
Art: Snake
Music: Something13

Development:
Story: 100%
Scripting: 30%
Art: 6%
Music and Sounds: 0%

As you can probably tell if you played "A Night to Remember" the artist has changed between games. As was mentioned several lines above,  the new Sprite/Background artist is Snake, and something13 will be doing the music for this game as well.

Woah, I'm really Impressed. And looking forward to the game. Will there also be any chance that you do a remake of A Night To Remember?

I am working on remaking A Night to Remember, but I don't intend to announce any details for a while now. Obviously though, I will not be changing the plot for ANTR.

There's nothing I love more than seeing a screenshot that looks like it's from a c1991 lost gem...

Sadly ... I must be the bad-guy here!  This doesn't meet the requirements and must be locked!

Snake, once you have the second screen-shot go ahead and update and unlock!

Thank you very much for the nice comments on the art, guys. It means a lot. Really, you have no idea how much of a bitch this Coffee Shop background was. Finally tamed her, though. If Ethan ever releases a Special Edition or Deluxe, I'll be sure to hand him all the concepts and different steps that each of these backgrounds took so he can include them in the game.

Oh, and Duals, shut up and finish your damn game already. Graphics don't make the game. I love your art for H2G2.

Ethan, I know you've finished some more scripting and such, so you might as well go ahead and update your first post now that this is ready to go again :D

I did make some progress in scripting but at the same time I have added another feature to the game which will take significant scripting so while I was at probably 34-36% it is back down to around 30.  It'll be worth it though.

You are always saying how others can draw better than you! You may not get everything looking perfect, but your art certainly doesn't lack imagination! Surely that is what matters most?

On the subject of imagination, Snake's graphics look great! I like how the lighting and uniqueness of each scene has clearly been important...

I must get round to playing the first one of these, the graphics for that weren't bad, either! :)

When did you start working on the game? Just out of curiousity, and to guage an estimate of completion.

I started writing the story for this game the day that I released ANTR.  I have probably been scripting for a month maybe two though I can't be sure.  (Sorry for the terrible estimate) I'm quite a bit ahead of the art at this point so it will probably be finished around the time that all of the art is done, unless of course I get stuck on something.  I'm also going to be testing this one more carefully than the last cause I rushed through that step last time and missed quite a few bugs.

Great to see your sequel up and running.
It looks totally different from 'A Night to Remember', but I do hope that you would keep its style (considering that the protagonist is still Nathan Carter). Really liked the storyline for the first game (the horror and what-not) so I would definitely hope to see it in this sequel as well. Oh, and Snake's art is SICK. With this kind of art, your graphics ratings are going to soar. ;)

Anyway, (I feel kind of stupid and awkward now) but I would also like to play-test A New Danger before you officially release it, together with arjon and the other guys who also stated above. It would be a privilege.

Cheers.
