Title: Adventure Game - Brief update
Post by: Tom S. Fox on Wed 23/03/2005 16:05:55
First of all:
I am german an my english is not really perfect.

I'd like to introduce my very first, but nevertheless with great effort made AGS game: Adventure Game (original title, eh?).
Adventure Game is primary attended to the famous Monkey Island-series.
Yes, I know, there are already more Monkey Island fan-projects than I can count, but Adventure Game is not just another Monkey Island sequel or spin-off.
Adventure Game is a Monkey Island parody!
Adventure Game scoffs at Monkey Island and other famous adventures like Simon the Sorcerer, Broken Sword, Maniac Mansion,
Day of the Tentacle, Sam'n'Max, Grim Fandango, Black Mirror, Alone in the Dark, Silent Hill but also movies like Pirates of the Caribbean, Cast Away, and, of course, the good ol' Matrix.

The Story:
A fair-haired guy named Arson Hairbrush wants to be a pirate. He travels to Smilée Island because the Piratestars-casting takes place there.
Arson takes part at the buccaneer-casting and falls in love with the beautiful female governor of Smilée Island, who is abducted by the maniac zombie-pirate One-Eyed Chuck.
Now Arson has to find his way to Monkey Island, fight against an huge dragon, safe the girl he loves, and find out who hides behind the mask of the evil himself, the maniac zombie-pirate One-Eyed Chuck.

Features:
- Four chapters
- Completely animated characters.
- A continous firework of gags.
- Five different Island:
Ã,  Monkey, Smilée, Bootleg, Kalifournya and Traffic Island

Is this game going to be completely in German or will there be an English translation? It certainly looks interesting, I'd like to see how it goes. Good luck with it!

Yes, there will be an english translation.

I'm not too far. I am not drawing the room in the correct order.

thomasvoss - First of all let me just say "Thank you" ...

FINALLY!  Somebody who, even though not English, read the rules first!

The game looks pretty good ... I actually find the simple graphics very appealing!

Keep up the good work.

This looks fantastic! I love it, I love the idea, the plot, and the characters are really cute (in a good way). Pleeeease finish this one, I'd love to play it.

This seems to be a very funny game. The names of the island and the hero makes me snigger.

In the screenshot with all the explosives, some of the text are german while other is english, is that delibriate or is that just a mistake?

Mats Berglinn: The "Sprengstoff tötet" ("Explosives kill") is in german, because I don't know if you have got these large, white warning messages on your cirgarette boxes like "Smoking kills".

Chiky: Maybe. Wait until I finished a playable version.

We do have them on cigarette boxes here in Sweden too.

Anyway, to get the topic back on, well, topic, I like the look of the game! It's got a very neat style, and the screenshots capture Monkey Island 2 very well, while staying in your style.

I don't want to interrupt the anti-smoking talk (Myself I'm a very anti-smoker and don't get the idea why people smokes if it's so dangerous and unhealthy and I don't get what's so fun or tasty with the fumes because to me it's disgusting. No, I haven't smoked ANY cigarettes and I DON'T plan too, not even if they pay me trillions of dollars) but let's not talk about this too much and focus more about the game instead.

Title: Re: Adventure Game - Get the demo!
Post by: Tom S. Fox on Sun 26/06/2005 16:32:26
At the top of this thread is now the download link for the demo of my game, I originally made for Kinoko's 'release something'-thread.
It spoofs a part of Monkey Island 2.
I decided to make a demo of this part, because it contains a, how I think, impressing room flicker effect.

I originally used the maya-plugin to create this effect, but with the new version of AGS it's not neccesary anymore.

However, C&C, please!
Title: Re: Adventure Game - Get the demo!
Post by: Mats Berglinn on Sun 26/06/2005 17:54:02
Please, make a english translation because not every AGS member knows germany. I don't understand a word what they say.
Title: Re: Adventure Game - Get the demo!
Post by: Tom S. Fox on Sun 26/06/2005 18:04:49
Yes, I made this game for the 'release something' thread, and I just didn't come around, to translate the game in time.
In fact, I uploaded the demo 45 minutes before midnight.
But I will add a translation.

But you don't have to understand anything, it's funny anyway (I hope).
Just click "Benutze" and then on the match.

So, there is it!
I've put the english translation download at the top of this thread.
I just couldn't translate the verbs not yet, since they are sprites, but it should be a lot easier to understand now.
There could be some grammar mistakes, please report them to me.

It was a very funny joke alright but it seems a bit too little to be a demo (felt more like a super-short teaser to me). Maybe I could get you the english verb sprites if you want to. Also I've would like that like in the LucasArts games that you click up a menu on the F1 (or F5 if you want to) and there choice to save, load or quit (not the Sierra/Default AGS Ctrl + q or such commands to open these seperately, just to get the same style for the good old Lucas Arts games.

On your site: It's very hard to fill your poll when you don't understand german. Can't you have a language selector on your site?

Yes, it was supposed to be some sort of tech demo and how I already said, I had not much time.
But maybe I will release a trailer at any time.

Yes, it's actually in the game, but I wanted a clean template for the demo, so I remade it quickly, and I think, for the short demo a menu is not neccesary.
But I forgot to mention: You can skip speech lines pressing "." (dot), like in the original LucasArts games.

Yes, it's already planned, but I need someone, who can help me translating.
(My english is far from perfection.)
I was actually talking to [ ... ], because he is a compatriot, and he obviously to likes the game.

Yeah, I know, I realized it too late.
I also forgot the rolled up sleeves but I think, I will just leave it like this, because I would have to change every single frame (it's a flic sequence).
But I think it's okay, since it is a reference, anyway.  ;)

Post by: Mats Berglinn on Wed 02/11/2005 16:48:45
Could you tell us how the progress is going? Why not tell in percent how much scripting is done, how much backgrounds are done, how much animations are done etc? Many do that.
Title: Re: Adventure Game - Some more stuff...
Post by: Tom S. Fox on Wed 02/11/2005 17:01:51
Yeah, I know, but I'm not good in this.
Plus, I wanted to wait, until it would seem more impressive.
But, if you want, here are some quite aproximate numbers:
Backgrounds: 35 %
Sprites: 25 %
Scripting: 30 %
Sound: 5 %
Music: 0%

The game is going to be quite long and I lacked motivation lately, but it's comming back!
Title: Re: Adventure Game - Need some help!

Okay, I have two requests:
1. I need an awesome guy/gal who can make me a 3d-ship model.
2. I could need some sounds from the game "Kirby's Adventure", like changing the area.
Can anybody tell me where I can find some or rip them of?

Thanks in advance!
Title: Adventure Game - Brief update
Post by: Tom S. Fox on Sat 25/03/2006 20:20:19
Okay, I made some mayor changes in the script.
I originally wanted to have a map-hunting part in my game like in Monkey Island 2, but that just wouldn't have worked.
There just would have been to many and two long periods without bigger laughs.
And the whole thing just wouldn't have worked really well for the story.
So I just decided to remove it.
It's a shame, since some really fun stuff will not be in the game, either, but trust me, it's better this way.
And besides, the production time will be a whole lot shorter.

If yes, it is! With the '.' key.
And keyboard shortcuts are planned as well.
As you can see, I thought about everything!

However, I want to apologize for this imitation of the english language, but I just can't do it better, okay?
