Ask a Monkeyologist
The Game

Based on the famous Ask a Monkeyologist Series, this game puts you in the shoes of Doctor Kauff von Diefendorf and his arch enemy Professor Gustav von Schneider as they must work together to figure out... stuff.

Well, not much of an intro, is there? Or...is it??

Well no, not really, they just end up in the middle of a field somewhere and they desperately try to figure out where are they located. During their inquiries, the Monkeyologists discover something sinister which may turn the world upside down! ...not...literally. Just so we're clear on that.

Here are some screenshots:

I know people looove statistics, so here we go:

DEMO LAUNCHED!

Let me hear your thoughts, please! Any comment (positive, negative, neutral etc.) will help me enhance the gameplay experience for you awesome people!

Oh, by the way, I'm Andrei aka SilverWolfPet! Nice to meet you all!

But WAIT, there's more!

This thread doesn't come empty-handed!

Until the game is released (or even the DEMO, but that shouldn't take too long), you are cordially invited to get to know the characters!

Season 1 of Ask a Monkeyologist

Season 2 of Ask a Monkeyologist

Special Guest Appearance in a very special Lord of the Rings Parody

How is THAT for an entry, eh?

To be honest, I always wanted to post a thread related to an upcoming game that I'm making... so this is a mini-dream come true!

Aaaand this couldn't have been possible without the talented help of my friends: Jasmin (Animator), Michal (Background Artist), monkey_05_06 (verbcoin module + taught me everything I know on coding), Icedhope (story), Puzzlebox (story and puzzles), Majus (Gustav von Schneider) and Mihai (brother and constant moral support).

You can follow updates on this project and some other awesome works (such as a Brand New SciFi Series) on www.silverwolfpet.com

Let me know what you think! ^.^

Mouth for war

Wow! Really nice looking :D I'll be looking forward to play this game
mass genocide is the most exhausting activity one can engage in, next to soccer

Dualnames

This looks very much like if Curse of Monkey Island had sex with Day of the Tentacle. Which sums up, as awesome!!
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

mkennedy

The black haired guy kind of reminds me of Gene Shalit who did movie reviews.

Monsieur OUXX

I like how the 2 character sprites have clearly differenciated attitudes, even on still frames (I'm not talking about the portraits, but the entire characters seen on the screenshots).

I'm a background artist so I take it as a best compliment I could ever dream of ;)

Kimbra

As promised, demo launched!

Quickly, click on the image! :D

Cyrus

Congratulations, gonna check it out!  ;D

As far as I know, the game will consist of several parts. Will the graphic style be all the same or different in different parts?

Grim

I loved the demo! Really funny stuff and fantastic voiceovers!

Make sure you rework the inventory items for the full game- they're the only thing that doesn't match the quality of the rest of the game. Other than that, I can't wait for the full game to see what's behind that gate!:)

And great job on the backgrounds, brother:)

Jasmin, the animator on this project, has written up a nice article on German ezine site nmag. Speaking no German, I can only assume that it has nothing but nice things to say about it. := Also, it marks another instance of AGS in the [e-]media, which is always good.

Small update:  We got three new awesome backgrounds for the game, made by Michal. This guy is working SO fast! Awesome!
Here's a teaser/glimpse:

Also, Jasmin finished the pick-up animations and the idle ones. We're now working on more complex-detailed stuff.
I need to program all this in the game and I will as soon as I can. Right now, I'm focusing on character design for... well, I don't wanna spoil it. :)

I also updated the stats in the original post. ^.^

Oh and to answer your question, if Michal doesn't one day tell us: "You all suck, I don't wanna be friends anymore"... we can confirm that the styles will be the same in each episode.

Ah, one more thing, we'll soon be releasing more episodes from Ask a Monkeyologist so you can become familiar with the Universe we're gonna throw you in, haha! Stay tuned.

, and besides the art, I'm really stunned by the work of your composer! This new screen is a bit reminiscent of DOTT.

I agree - and in my opinion Gustav's inventory looks better than Kauff's.

Just a quick reminder... we're still working here ^^

Judging by those stats I posted, I'm not sure if it was this game :)
I'm just happy that I found Michal, our current artist. He just sent me some incredible works right now and... wow! It's coming together nicely!

So you have a Michael (me), a Michal, and a Mihai all in some way contributing to this game...

Epicness ensues, I assure you. Anytime you get variants of the name "Michael" working together...it can only be good.

Would it get even more wicked if I added that Michal's surname is Michalski? ;)

Anyway, I am eagerly awaiting more screenshots!!!
