STORY:
Leif is a guy with big thoughts in a small mind. A wannabe intellectual that never really made that final step to the university, or to the dating arena. One day, as a bachelor living out the hight of his career, he receives a letter from an attorney's office stating that he has inherited a quite formidable piece of real estate from his recently deceased grandfather.
As Leif arrives to his new home, he discovers a strange cave underneath the basement of the house with odd rock carvings and more notably; a glowing crystal shard. As he leaves the cave, a strange vessel suddenly pops up in the yard. Curious by nature, Leif invesigates the alien piece of machinery and discovers slots where the odd shard he found fits in one of them. And seconds later, Leif finds himself in a completely different situation than he had planned for this afternoon.
The search for the time shards has begun.

I like graphics and humor very much! Bravo!
Sounds and looks like fun!
Also, I've never seen a Stalin poster used as an inventory item, which is a good thing. ;) I wonder what its purpose will be..

Heh... well... all I can give away is that it's definitively for something silly. ;)

Thanks. Humour does very much play a major role in the game. =)
Finally a demo version has become available. Download, try out and comment! =)
QuoteI think it has a relative named Chuck
lol
Very distinctive style and well done pixel art!
Maybe a wallpaper pattern or a simple color on the walls besides white would be nice.
Finished the demo, it was funny and enjoyable, and I must say, quite large for a demo...
I'm waiting for the game, it ought to be interesting ;)
A tiny suggestion:
Spoiler
maybe some smartass comment if I try to scare the carriers away with the stalin poster...
tzachs: Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad you enjoyed the game. Yes, it is a rather large demo. The finished game will probably be about four times as long though. =)
I will implement your tiny suggestion right away. Thanks for the advice =)
Finally came around to play the demo and found it enjoyable too. Simple but clean style, nice music and some funny comments. Let's see how the finished game will work out.
Played the demo and had great fun. The humor is top notch, I love the retro-but-well-developed graphics, every character was interesting and the puzzles logical!
Two minor remarks: (1) the GUI has an Zzz option which I didn't really get (should be for cutscenes I suppose, but it does appear ingame too) (2) dialogue is skippable only by keyboard. Being a mouse driven game I'd do a "skip dialogue with mouseclick" too.
Again, excellent work!
Isn't that zzz-option not just the same thing as for example the classic sierra 'sand glass' icon, shown when you as player can't do anything for a certain moment?

(1) The zzz is shown whenever the player can't do anything in the game. Just like the hour glass cursor in Windows and in many games. (2) I see your point, but I have a habit of clicking the mouse button by mistake during dialog, since you have your hand on the mouse all the time. I disabled the skip by mouse click option for this reason. It's annoying when you miss dialog just because you happened to touch the mouse button by mistake.
Thank you for your comment!

Many people find it more annoying when they can't skip dialog the way they're used to. Perhaps you could make it an option?

Yes, good point. I might reconcider it. Optional is a good idea, but when I think of it I think I'll just change the whole thing back to mouse skip.
Or you could make it so that any key press on the keyboard skips it, that way it's possible to skip if you're a fast reader, and accidental mouse clicks do not become an issue.
Peace
Scarab
I find the graphics to be okay, but those default gui buttons images, really put me away (no offence there). I think it would be proper and easy to change them.

The screenshots are a bit old. Those buttons were just temporary. All GUI is now custom.
I have now updated the main post with new and more recent screenshots.

Woot!! That's really cool GUI you now have, also the main menu is really cool!
Thanks. I did work a lot on the GUI.
Minor update. Two alternative download locations for the demo.
Updated development information. The development is going steady at the moment, as I finally have some free time to waste. The past few weeks have been very productive. Hopefully the game will be finished this fall. Or at least ready for testing. I hope some nice people want to help me out polishing the final touches when the time comes. Not only concerning bugs, but also whether jokes are woking or not.
It's great you're finishing you game, Merte! The old demo was excellent and I was sad that there were no new updates appearing.
I'm glad you're back at this, Merte!! :D
Always nice to be missed. I hope to make more frequent updates on the process in the weeks to come. By the way, does it count as gore if it is made from a rotten tomato in order to frame somebody for a murder that isn't actually a murder?
I just wanted to say that I played your demo and I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to playing the rest of the game.
Michael
Glad to hear that. I feel the game is becoming increasingly absurd and random, to tell the truth.
