Due to server problems this post had to be unrespectfully pruned. As soon as these issues will be taken care of I'll put back the original version.

Looks interesting... How exactly does it work? You have to make a rainbow or something?

Looks interesting... How exactly does it work? You have to make a rainbow or something?
Not really: you just start each level with a coloured block and you've got to mix it up with other blocks to obtain the final tint (e.g.: if you step into a
yellow cube with a
blue one, your colour will change to
green), and then reach the exit of the level. This task is made easier/difficult by different power-ups/obstacles that you will find along the path.
Looks pretty interesting... intriguing (sp) concept for a game. Is there going to be some sort of psychedelic storyline behind it or not? And are there going to be AI enemies or is it just you against the clock / nothing in particular?

No AI enemies planned, but there
will be a psychedelic storyline behind that.
I really like the look of this. I'm always interested in non-adventure games developed with AGS. And this one in particular looks rather intriguing. Can't wait to try it out! Good luck to you and your team.
Thanks everyone for the support and the positive feedbacks! How engouraging!
I post to point out at an update (a new screenshot of the artistic qualities of Ghost), check the first post!
Very cool looking! Really looking forward to trying this out. Nice work guys!
I love seeing non-adventure games being developed, and this looks awesome! I really like the concept, and look forward to playing it.
looks sweet!
looking forward to seeing this game finished.
i like the overall look of it.
good luck!
Great!!! :D
GREAT!
(is there echo in here?)
It looks really good! I am still trying to get my head round how you would play it :-\ It must be one of those games that you will pick up the minute you start playing it.
Anyway, I will definitely keep an eye on this and I wish you and your team good luck with the project ;D
As a proud supporter of bicilotti's runner-up to non-adventure-game fame, let me assure you all that the positive feedback and anticipation is *totally* justified. I love casual games, and ColourWise has all the hallmarks of a great puzzle game.
The game mechanics are, to use the hackneyed phrase, easy to learn but hard to master, and bic managed to create smooth controls and a surprising array of bonus blocks to spice up the core game.
To elaborate a tiny bit on the gameplay:
You navigate a coloured block through a tilebased maze, leaving a "trail" on the grid that cannot be crossed a second time. You must reach an exit tile, and to enter the exit your block must have a certain colour. This is where all the coloured blocks and bonusses come in- they allow you to change your colour by touching them (as described by bic) or challenge you by blocking your path... and much more (I really do not dare to spoil here ;) )
Congrats, bic- finish this, and there will be cake! ;D
looks very nice! The graphics on the editor are a bit messy though. Maybe you could polish those up a bit. For the rest it looks super b! Good luck!

The yet-to-be-polished editor is currently undergoing some polishing. News
very soon!
Oh well, it seems we got a brand new background for ColourWise (actually it's the 2nd one). Hope you like it! ;)
Bicilotti asked me for some spacey stuff, and after some (several.. better) attempts, i guess i made it through.. Any advice and impression welcome!
I'd like to say i'm pleased and honoured to work with Bic- and the art-guru Ghost, and woa people watch out: ColourWise will colorize your minds 8)
Farewell!
Nice. Looking forward to it.
I hope you're also planning to port this to the Spectrum and Acorn Electron.
Bump! We found our first level designer, codeJunkie: he managed to pull off his hat two fantastic levels and here he is, part of the team. We miss almost nothing now (maybe another level designer, or two); scripting is quite complete and two new BGs have been done.

Sorry, only C64 in our agenda for now!
I'm very interested in the level editor - can we export any levels we make and post them online? I could see this having sort of "add-on packs" where somebody could sit down and make 10 or so levels in a weekend and them put them online.
By the way - this game has me excited.

You
can export levels and post them online and
not only! There's even a tool which groups them in a handy single file, so you can design a set of level and let the player play 'em in the order you wish, unlocking level after level so as to not spoil the fun!
By the way, your Lode sprites/backgrounds are one of the most beautifully coloured things I've seen in a long time, good luck with it!

Add the ability to put your own intermission screens and descriptions, and I'll rank you Lvl60 ScriptMaster (possibly IMBA)!
(and yes, this is a barely unveiled attempt to return this thread to the position it was yesterday!)
Bump: added a new screenshot with some tiles and a WiP background (Spiral)
Bump!
Due to some forum issues the main post had to be trimmered down. I'll switch it to the previous, longer, version as soon as the problem with the boards is solved.
For now, enjoy this marvellous wallpaper-teaser by our talented artist, Ghost:

It was a pleasure to design this, and hopefully it will adorn the odd desktop.
FFS, i read this thread a million times, you've seen me at IRC ags channel and haven;t told me a word about it, bic. I just noticed it was you making another game.. Hehehe. Good luck with this one. Me and Ghost will pray.

A general "AGS Wallpaper" would be a fun Competition ::)

Another day another screenshot! This one with a new & improved gui, a level by CodeJunkie and some new blocks for you to see!
The project is running smoothly but, since we're planning to make a quite long main quest, we still need one ore more additional
Level Designers. The editor is easy as a piece of cake to use and the game's witty, so volounteer now!
I thought i was about to be the designer.. :-\ :'(
This look sweeter with every new shot! :D
Proud to say we have a new level designer on board: Dualnames from ShoRyuKen! That means more levels, more variety, a more challenging gameplay and probably a boost which will allow us to match the expected release date!
thinking it twice, he was the one who asked CJ to add the File.Delete() function! I loved that, so thanks CJ for implementing and Dual for pointing out!
Me and bic have been talking a lot even before he started doing colourwise. Anyway, bic's just this guy you know. I'm glad to join the already great team, and from my part we will have things wrapped up soon enough. I'll be even beta testing my levels for free. Anyway, not to bother you around. I'm glad I'm on this. And more glad than bicilotti is.

Another day, another screenshot and welcome to our third level designer, Mazoliin! With this last addition the team is finally complete. I can objectively state that, if everything works out as planned, we bill be able to anticipate the deadline by a week or two.

Another day, another screenshot AND a new member on board. Say hello to ryanlandry; he will our SFX man!
Without any real knowledge of the gameplay, I'd like to make a suggestion.
In pushover (awesome game with dominoes), there are all sorts of dominoes that do different things. It seems like in your game different blocks do different things.
However, on the last level, all of the dominoes (except for the one that has to fall last) looked exactly the same, but still had special functions. I am suggesting making a level where all of the blocks that do stuff look exactly the same, but they do have different functions, and the player has to guess and test to decipher the function before really attempting a way to solve the puzzle.

Pushover was really an awesome game (actually
is an awesome game, I must fin those old floppy disks)! We planned a surprise or two for the last levels of ColourWise too ;) It will spice things up towards the end of the story, but I cannot say more, or I'll spoil the surprise ;) You'll see
soon!
Careful though, a level can become very frustrating if you are making all stones look the same, and reacting different. It's like allowing to chose from one of 10x10 price tickets, and only in five, there is a prize, and you have to draw ten times, never getting an empty envelope. I'd rather solve a level that is tricky to figure out but with predicatable tiles.
But *curious* about your planned surprises- since by now, I know you're a resourceful man...

www.abandonia.com has crazy amounts of cool old DOS games. Like pushover, might and magic 2, life and death, life and death 2, carmen sandiego, and sim games (like simfarm).

Good luck, your project looks great!
Luck on yer. If it backfires, you can still make the red cube the new star of some jell-o ad ;D
Ever wondered how it is to design a ColourWise level?
Me neither, since I got lost in the woods and found there is much more valuable knowledge, like correctly reading isopleths or UTM coordinates.
Anyway, these two screenshots show just that:

The last mile is always the most painful.
Finally the project is coming to an end. Let me introduce our musician to you,
arjanpelle (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=8351), an AGS lurker who agreed to help us with his tunes. He took the job on a very short notice and we thank him warmly for that.
We're reaching the release date (should be 8th of July) and we need
3 beta testers. One of them should be FSi (please write here to confirm FSi), the other two positions are still open.
English as a mother toungue and the availability of Windows Vista are welcomed albeit not necessary.
Write here / PM me to volounteer!

Same here. I'd like to be a beta-tester, if possible.
And two they were. Now then, I'll contact FSi and if he is still in we're full. Yay!
I'll get those levels Bici. I promise.
I got 14 and he wants 20...
By the way, why so stuck with FSi?
Not that he's not the hell of a beta testing being, proved his title on lc3, but why?
Quote from: Dualnames on Thu 19/06/2008 10:13:58

Because once I've seen a bug report he was compiling: it was 3 pages long, every bug stated with a remarkable precision.
By the way, he confirmed he's in, yay!
