Title: [COMPLETE] BAKE SALE: RAM Ghost
Post by: on Wed 09/11/2011 23:34:25
Whenever a promising indie game is abandoned... whenever a game stops being made... there is a chance that it becomes a RAM ghost. Technically these spectral beings ARE a game- but no-one cares about them anymore. It's a sad fact that our good old Random Access Memory is chock-full of little ghost games that will never be seen.

Enter AGS, the Abandoned Game Savers!

Our eggheads have come up with a theory: If one would adopt such a RAM ghost and nurture it, give it some love and care... then it could simply recreate itself and become what it should have been! Our coders have written a small virtual environment that allows a RAM ghost to live in any computer. It's very advanced stuff, but it LOOKS just like a house. And now we plan to make this software available for everyone.

Take care of an abandoned game (a RAM Ghost). It'll explore its new home and use it to fulfill its needs. At night it'll leave to play pranks on your neighbours, earning ectoplasm on the way. Spend that ghostly currency to improve and decorate the house. See the spectre develop characteristics and a daily routine, and interact with it to build up its trust and confidence.

If you're doing well, it really might turn into a game...

This may be the beginning of a wonderful friendship, but we SHOULD discuss those wallpaper styles...

Decorate, buy and upgrade to make this simple virtual house a veritable Unreal Estate!

[edit]- and it WILL fill up all right ;)

[Actual Game Info]
RAM Ghost is a simulation in the line of Little Computer People or (for those who are less than a hundred years old) the Sims. You start with an empty house and a randomly generated ghost, and you can try to make it as happy as possible to raise exctoplasma, or simply watch it doing its thing. There is no goal as such, but you actually CAN make the ghost so happy and energetic that it'll "get real".

It's more a toy than a classic game. It probably won't need a PG sticker. And its got ghosts in it, so that makes it a neat game almost instantly ;)

Quite a different direction to your previous one, but a good looking ghostly simulation, nice one! I look forward to clicking that bubbly soap icon  :=

This game looks adorably awesome, Ghost! I hope that if I take good care of my little unfinished program it will turn into Larry Vales III or Legend of Leitor's Edge!  :=

Little Computer People! :D

This looks great, Ghost, and I'm sure it'll play even better! Good luck with it!

To tell you the truth, I'm kind of glad you're making a non-adventure game, but I still hope you'll finish your other, more adventure-y endeavour.

No promises here... The advanced and newfangled  AGS-o-Tron links up to all RAM there is, and you get a random game- it could well be Super Unicorn Pet III. Or even Barn Runner Teh Lost Chappers.  ;)

Thanks! Yeah, it's fun to press AGS to do un-adventurey stuff. But don't worry, once the Sale's done, it's back to the little violet one ;)

Oh hell! I haven't been able to stop my girlfriend from playing Sims for ages and now someone is trying to make ME play it too!
How could you? WE COULD HAVE HAD BOOBIES!!!  :o

Looks great!

But the "RAM Ghost" title keeps giving me ideas the game is about spectral sheep.

WHAM: Come on, the Sims aren't THAT bad. Sims3 even HAS a Boob-Increase-O-Meter  ;)

Arjon: I see what you did there...  8)

Ascovel: Great. Now I will have to change the title. I mean, spectral sheep? That really would be too silly...

Little Update (already): Tabata (she of the unlimited smileys) had a fun idea that could actually be fun. Allow me to translate and quote:

"What if the ghost really scares forum members? There *are* some "legendary" abandoned games around..."

So, any volunteers to have their game titles and avatars used in the game? It would be a harmless little joke, not at all nasty; all you'd get would be a screen where your avatar is shown, with a small message like "[Insert Name Here] found all his socks dyed pink!" or "Your ghost left ectoplasm all over [Insert Name Here]'s mouse."

PM if interested to be part of the joke.

Huh,
seems to me there's someone trying to get an inside view  :o - when did this happen?
Look at that little magic cow occupying the house already - it's unbelievable! This cow seems to be nearly everywhere?   (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/10.gif)

The house looks really comfortable with all the stuff inside and the grafic is sooo cute (http://www.smileyvault.com/albums/userpics/12962/thump_up.gif)

I fully support this idea. For that matter, who's to say this house doesn't exist in RON? Or near the docks where OSD's ship is lying at anchor. The possibilities are endless. ;)

That is absolutely beautiful. I'd ask for an under-the-counter version, but I'm afraid I wouldn't get anything done anymore! :D

Well the game defenitely passed the "Small Niece" test today. My niece (2 years) was fascinated by watching a ghost preparing sammiches. She even giggled. I take that as a good sign.
That lasted only three minutes, however, then she wanted to cuddle my cats. She has the attention-span of a two-year-old, really...
