I only just got the background artist and character artist problems sorted out. You should see a screenshot in February some time.

I've had a real boost lately, so yes Mr Panda you're right you probably wont see a FINISHED product until 2004. If it all went smoothly I reckon KI could be out by the end of this year, tho.

Anyway thanks for the encouragement. FoY is the game I've been wanting to make for ages, I want to make it more than Kinky Island - its just finding the right team thats taken a year, LoL. Hopefully the current team will work wonders ;)

m0dsie, will it be sold like KI or is it a free download. I'll definately buy it if you sell it.

KI looks and sounds ok, but FOY has loosened my bowels.

Yay! I've been looking forward to FOY since I first heard about it. Then I was all sad when development stopped. But now I'm happy again!

If you ever need an archaeology consultant or an extra artist, I'm always here to help. ;)

On a side note, this is the first time I've ever used a smiley in this forum. Today is a historical day!
Title: Re:Indiana Jones & The Fountain of Youth
Post by: on Sun 19/01/2003 15:18:20
Indeed it is, congratulations on the smiley! :p As for an archeology consultant - I'll certainly keep that in mind. The game isn't 100% planned yet so I may need some help with choosing locations of archeological interest.

Scummbuddy, if you want to help with sketches/concept art you're more than welcome too ;)

Snake, FoY will be a download. No speech, no mp3 etc - it shouldn't be too big to download. Kinky Island just comes with a lot of extras ya see. AND A T-SHIRT!1 :p (even though you will still be able to download KI, but you won't get the t-shirt)

Anyhoo, I'm glad it's pleased people that FoY is back again - it's certainly not a project I'd ever abandon and let it rot. Let's all hope it goes to plan :)

Can I just ask one question........ copyright? will there be any problems when you come to release it, becasue Indiana Jones isn't exactly your creation.

Now, these look even better than in FOA. When will it be released?
Title: Re:Indiana Jones & The Fountain of Youth
Post by: on Sun 02/02/2003 18:42:14
The game should be ready for Christmas, but no promises. As for copyright... it's freeware. It's all our own material. It's just the name "Indiana Jones" we're using, and some characters and locations. I don't think we'll have any problems with releasing it.

FoAII hasn't had any problems with LEC so in theory neither should we.

evil, I will email you when the time comes :p At the moment, Misja seems to be able to pick up my descriptions of how I'd like a location to look just like that, but if I ever need to explain something to him in an art form, i'll drop you a mail with information for drawing a sketch :)

Sweet, thanks, I'll pass on your comments to Misja. BTW, even he doesn't know how he manages to produce them so fast!

Plus, I think he does them as originals - he sketches them and then just magics them up. Of course, he had something to work from for Indy's office and the exterior of Barnett College (which you'll notice is at a different angle so that you don't just think he ripped it!).

Amberle - the fact your name is on the start credits makes it 10 x cooler :p

Maybe I'll trick my sister into playing it with me (using the trickery I used when I got her to play FOA with me except with more trickery because now she has a kid and she's lazy/busy when the kid's asleep) and then when the credits come up she'll be all "What the hell is your name doing in the credits of this fabulous game?" and I can say "Why, I am very important aren't I!".

I doubt it'd go like that, though. I don't think I've ever heard my sister call anything fabulous when she's not making fun of Christopher Lowell. But it'd still be fun.

Title: Re:Indiana Jones & The Fountain of Youth
Post by: Miez on Fri 07/02/2003 08:51:24
Just to clear up some of the hazy "how are these pictures done?" issues: I make a pencil sketch (on the patented FoY sketch template TM) - scan it as a 150 DPI greyscale image, stuff it in my patented FoY Photoshop template (TM). Then I draw the major lines, fill in the larger shapes with flat colour or ranges of colour. Next is a prolonged period of pixelbashing to get all the anti-aliasing to look right, finished off with some highlights and shadows. Most pictures take around 4 hours (the office of Dr. Jones was a real monster though, with all the intricate details - and took considerably longer).
Thanks for all the praise  ::) - I love doing this stuff!

er - m0ds - we are NOT in it for the sex? - damn, there goes another fine plan ;)

Great art, but what's with the destructive compression? I take it this was at some point clean pixel art. I'd like to see it like that, to comment more thoroughly. But tell concrats to your artist nevertheless.

Looking forward to it.

This picture was quite simple to make, as most of the source material was existing photography: the black & white "dig in mesopotamia" photographs, the pen, even the newspaper. Most work was making the composite of the newspaper photograph (using pictures of the sphinx, a line of trucks and several pictures of "our" general). It looks a little less "handdrawn" than the other pictures, but so do the closeup pictures in the original FoA, and the low res makes it work somehow (I think).

Here's the first look at the GUI we'll be using. Its a cross between FoA and... Erm, a modified thing.

You'll notice we've killed "Push and Pull" and replaced them with "Move", but you'll also notice we've taken away "Give" as we felt that can come under "Use".

Congrats to Misja for making the background. And making it look so sexy, too.

Oh, and as with FoA, it will sometimes change depending on your situation. You may remember the good old "Touch" button and such alike.

KEEP it up. IT LOOKS GREAT.

Just kidding; it really looks harder than it is: if you can draw (a little), have some imagination and perseverance, you'll get there. Just study the original artwork and (obligatory input device ad) get yourself a tablet and pen. Or stick with a mouse and get RSI ;)

Wow, that looks great. Misja's done an awesome job there.

Just out of curiosity, how can you be sure Lucasfilm won't shut this down? They've issued 'cease and desist' to various different projects that intrude on their intellectual properties or whatever before. I sure hope you're not gonna have that problem, because the game looks fantastic.

The Indy trilogy are probably still my favourite films ever since I first got into them, and another Indy game can only be a good thing. Provided it isn't Desktop Adventures 2, which I wouldn't be too chuffed about.

Edit: Not that I think there should be any competition, let alone animosity, between the projects, hats off to you for making an original Indy game and not continuing the Atlantis story. I just feel that Fate Of Atlantis capped off the entire Atlantis thing so finally that a direct sequel seems just a bit awkward. It's good that people are making these games though.

Er, wouldn't this be of more concern to LucasFilm than LucasArts? Which might actually be safer, since LucasFilm are probably further away from their community than LucasArts.

Yeah, that's why I put Lucasfilm in my original post. I think it's less likely that Lucasfilm will get wind of it but I don't know their history of shutting down things like this.

Fingers crossed anyway.

Why use the dos editor? It's not as nice to use as the windows one.. and the new versions let people force 85hz, which at least on my monitor makes low res games display correctly, they usually don't.  I suppose you're just used to the dos one, you should get with the 21st century though :P
There are so many things that the new version has that Indy needs ;)  At least you say you're going to finish the game off in the winags editor..

And of course, I loved the rolling demo :)

Where are the updates, pictures or stuff.

When will this game be released.

Is there a demo.

Why is there an Indiana Jones Fountain Of Youth game being made.

Why is there an Indiana Jones Fate Of Atlantis 2 game being made.

I can't wait for these two games to be released.

2) If you can get to the forum, then why not ask about it there?
3)Updates are coming
4) Hopfully, next year
5)There is a rolling demo, ie not playable
6) Because Mods has a great story to tell with his teammates and they have the drive to make it (what a weird question)
7) another weird question... not our community doing it, but we *most of us* wish them good luck.  they are building their own engine along with their game,so theres will take longer
8 ) None of us can

Hey, guys, in case you were wondering, there are a couple people here on the boards that still wonder about this game.  maybe like 2 or 3 people.  :P

Last Crusade (which imo is better than FoA)

:-X I couldn't disagree more.  To each his own, though.

I've always preferred to LC to FOA. In part because I find the Holy Grail much more interesting than Atlantis, and that I prefer creepy German castles to Greek ruins, but more importantly because of the gameplay style. Yes, the three paths in FOA adds replay value, but in fact they limited the player's choice (!). In LC you could choose your approach to the problems on a case-by-case basis, in FOA the choices were dictated by whatever path you selected before leaving the college.

It's a bit like the QFG games. You are meant to choose ONE character class and solve the puzzles with their abilities. I, however, played a thief character with magic and combat skills as well, and went through pretty much all the tasks of all classes within one playthrough. I was incredibly annoyed when some of the later games (QFG3 in particular, I hate that game) greatly limited my options.

But as remixor said, to each his own.

I agree that many of LC's design elements were very interesting, it's more the quality of each game that does it for me.  The writing in FOA is leaps and bounds beyond that of LC (in my opinion), which was sometimes a bit hard for me to take all that seriously.  FOA just felt like more of an "experience" to me.

For me, everything after the submarine was boring. ie Crete and Atlantis itself.

Lol - then I may even have seen your house while I was staring down from the Groznjan hill - completely wasted because of the strong liquor they kept giving us and bleary eyed from too little sleep!  ;D
