There is an Update on the last page.
-------------------------

Well, once again, after forgetting about everything and with a flash of memory, i'm resurrecting this project.

The story isn't really anything special. Basically: your brother, Alvin, took your brand new video game, and is holding it hostage to blackmail you to collect 3 final ingredients for his science fair project.

I know--kinda lame--but hey it's a practice game.  Although I do plan to release it (If I wasn't why would I post this thread?), it would just be to show off the finished project, and get critiqued as well as pointers to make a next posible project better than this one.

No this project isn't dead >__>  I've just been really lacking on doing anything with this(ADD sorta), and I've just got back into the kick of working on this. So I figured I'd update the progress as well as something little.

~9/21/06

New screenshot!  This time of Alvin's room.  There's alittle through-back hidden in there. if you can't tell by the clothing, it'll hit yah in the conversation.  Figured I'd post a new screen since the room's 95% done.  I just gotta animate a cusor and typing on the computer monitor, and work the kinks out on having Alvin animate in the background.  I've updated to working in Ver2.72 so now i have o-names and simpler code.  It's just figuring out what the string to activate it is cause I keep getting errors when i just put the basic line of it in.  I also want to have bubbles gurgle in the tubes in the foreground.

~9/10/06

Added 2 shots of both ends of the Hallway re-design. Cleaned up the first post some. I Finished talking animations for main character as well as Completed the background for Alvin's room.  The main sprite is still incomplete on walking frames, but I'm slowly plugging away at getting the frames done.  Lastly, the 5 defult icons have been replaced by custom one, as well as the wait icon being animated.

~5/25/05

Added a new screenshot.  I spent the good part of the afternoon and all evening up til now (11:24pmEST) just getting the first half of the down walking animation finished.  So now I have about a 10% complete sprite for the main character.  Still don't have speech animaton though.  But the new screenshot shows the sprite to her full size for the screen

Story: 100%
Sprites:4 / 6
Rooms: 7 / 7
Puzzles planned:100%
Puzzles scripted: 100%
Total Scripting: 99%
Sound & Music: 1%

2 screens of the new, scrolling, hallway.

Alvin's room.

Chicken!!

What will this chicken's purpose be?  Is it just an illogical piece to some twisted puzzle? A strange solution to a wacked-out event?  Or is it just a sight-gag?.....I guess you'll just have to wait XD.

PsychicHeart

nice.
the cartoony graphics really catch my eye

Nice start :) but I fear Darth will not like it too much, yet... By that I mean to refer to the forum rules.

And what's with the watermarks? No GUIs, cursors or characters visible, so we can tell they're not ingame shots anyway, and you mentioned it yourself aswell... Nobody's going to steal your stuff, or if someone does, you have the copyright to the stuff, and thus can sue them. ;)
I used to make games but then I took an IRC in the knee.

I see nothing wrong with this thread, Ishmael.

Ok, I thogyht I reas them.  I can take a couple screenshots, even if it is just with the defult roger sprite, just to get the room that I have 50% completed.  I'll go ahead and take a couple "working screenshots" that uses the roger sprite, and just go from there.

I was in the wrong, and quicky rectified it this morning. Also, I'm in the process of saving those .bmps to .jpgs in photoshop. to replace those up there.

Zor, you have read the rules, haven't you?

Anyway, I'll be looking forwards for this game, the graphics are nice and the story doesn't seem too complicated to collapse itself, like first projects sometimes do, but not close to always ;)

(No mean to discourage you, I took a way too big bite with my first few projects and they all pulled theirselves down, mostly because of storylines that didn't work at all...)

I'm not discouraged, I purposly thought up a short, simple little thing for first round making.  Small game, simple story, only a hand full of characters.  Nothing big, or too comlicated.

Darth Mandarb

All three screenshots show the same background ...

You need to include at least one more background.

Is the character in the latest screenshot the 'in-game' character?  I see you're still using Roger in the other screenie?  Do you have your character made yet?

Lastly, please do not double post.

PsychicHeart

hey,
congrats on the new screenies, love em.
oh and i think you're taking well some of the criticism you're getting ( not naming any names *coughdarthcough*) i know for one that the last thing you want in your In Production threads is discouragement.
Congrats mate, keep up the (very) good work.

Sorry, I just figured since it was hours apart.. That's my fault, I'm sorry.  And yes, the latest screenshot is the in-game character.  I'm working diligently on finishing her.  She's half way finished drawn now. every time i finish a frame i add it to the file. and test it.  It's probably the slow way of doing things, but I'm not in any real rush.  And yes, as soon as I finish, the next room, that will be when I put up the next screen.  I was just wanting one to show the base room.  One to show that 'm also working on making the items as I go with the rooms and sprites.  and one to show I've finished some of the character.  The next screen may take a while to get to, but I'll put it up to show when I get to it.

Added the second room, and even scripted one line of text just to show, and so I'm no longer in fault of the rules

EdLoen

Resurrecting Project!

Added the new (much better) edition of the hallway.

Alvin's room'll be next once I finish his dummy sprite before I animate it.

CosmoQueen

Thanks =P I do tend to lean more for a female lead in most of my stories.  I just find them easier to write... strange since I'm a guy...

Ok, yeah. I know it's been almost a year just about, But I feel I should bring this back since i'm nearing completion, I only have a room and an eighth to finish drawing and coding left, then It'll be ready for a First Beta (Minus music and a comic-relief sequence in which the last 2 sprites are used)

That and So I'm not coming back with nothing, I've added somthing to the first post.  It's mostly a cop out though >_>....

After this, the next time I ressurrect this thread (if it dies) would be when I get the First Beta ready I guess.

WHAM

Nice and deatiled characters (kinda anime-style, I like it!) but they dont really fit with the slightly blurry backgrounds. The characters stand out throught being so sharp...

Otherwise, nice looking and sounding game. Will there be any voice acting? (In my opinion: sounds make a game good, and lack of them can really ruin a game.)

A chicken? Does it have a pulley in the middle??
