Title: Haunting at Cliffhouse
Post by: Ghostlady on Sat 21/02/2009 19:53:43
You play as Sarah, a recent widow who has received a mysterious brochure for a B&B called Cliffhouse on the coast of Washington State, where some of the most dangerous and evil waters exist.  In Sarah's grief and despair she decides to get away from it all and drives to the B&B.  She arrives early morning.

She enters the house and meets numerous characters, the owners and the visitors.

As Sarah explores the house, she begins to unveil a dark and mysterious story of the people who originally owned the house in the 1800's, the sea captain and his wife.  Sarah also thinks she hears music playing at night and sees ghostly images in mirrors.

I think you get the picture.  ;)

The Graphics are 75% done.
The Story is all mapped out.
The Scripting is at 50%.

This is not in the horror genre but the ole gothic haunting tradition.

I really like the interior shoots of the house very nice.  The outside however seems a bizzare mix of CG and photo I think also the lighting seems off some how.  I would like to hear more of the story idea but looks interesting so far.

This was the 3rd try for a gothic house.  It seems this type of structure is quite daunting for graphic artists, so yes, it is a mix.  The lighting in the above image is for early morning.  Here is the night version:

The story is about the house and the original owners.  How it came be built, the tragic events of the people who lived there and the spirits who still inhabit the house.  The cross over from present to past.  Through flashbacks, the player learns secrets and yet is protected by events happening in the present, since someone or something is trying to scare the player away.

nice graphics! what methods are you using to produce the images? are they completely CG?

I am not doing the graphics so I can't explain what is being used.  I think the inside shots are 3d models and Photoshop.  What is CG?

CG or CGI is short for Computer Generated Image which could be any image programmed or draw entirely on the computer.
It is most often referring to 3d polygonal Images.
that's a nice game, It could be very interesting.

Hey Ghostlady, theres a game on STEAM called Dracula: Origins.. or something like that.. that utilizes a lot of pre rendered stuff, something you may wanna look into..

There's nice atmosphere in the exterior lighting shots in your project.. whoever your artist is should look into nice ambient occlusion renderers for the interior shots.. AO will help everything in the rooms feel grounded, as of right now, some assets appear a little "floaty" in the screenshots..

Just a suggestion..
Sounds really interesting, and I can't wait to give it a go when you get a demo, or final game pushed out.

Reminds me a lot of Black Mirror. If you have not played this game, GET IT SOMEHOW AND PLAY IT! Especially if you try to produce a game that similar! :)

Really, anybody interested in adventure games should play that game though. It's my candidate for most underrated adventure game ever.

Anyways, looking sweet, I'm very interested. Who did the graphics for this?

Thanks for the info, I'll check into it all.

The interior was done by Rebecca Cox (http://www.sapphire-designs.com/) and exterior by Andy Simmons (http://www.ans-graphics.com/)

Hello everyone.  Cliffhouse is almost complete.  It is sitting at about 5 hours of playtime, hopefully six by the time I am done.  I am at the point where I would like to add some scary effects and get out the backstory (of the ghosts).  I would like to find someone who can write so that I can get better character build and would like suggestions for the storyline and how to approach the final goal or end of story.  I've worked on it for so long I think I've become blinded.  Please contact me if you are interested.

Ghostlady!  Welcome to the AGS forum.  Those backgrounds sort of remind me of the images from your Mystery Manor website.  Is that where the game is supposed to take place? :)
