Who would call a nursery \ orphanage \ any other children's home after Marquis de Sade? : )
Looks interesting, will keep an eye on it.

Well, if you consider that the former owners were all sadistic murderers then I think De Sade's is appropriate  (nod)

I have to say it will be hard for me to get into the mood for a horror game with this level of visuals. Too heavy-handed copy/paste use and the cartoony look can really diminish any scary aspects to the game. However, if you put a good amount of effort into story and audio design, the project can work, so don't think I'm telling you to scrap this or anything. ;)

I also find it an odd design choise to make the anxiety level clearly visible to the player, in my opinion that would be something that should be conveyed through visual / audio / dialogue ques, rather than a plain bar.

Oh well, hope I didn't sound too downbeat, and I hope you'll keep developing.

Hi Wham,

of course if I had a couple of ounces of art talent it would no doubt look a bit different as with characters etc. I am by far not the only talent-less artist and have played many a top rated game where the graphics are somewhat dire, but you can't let that stop you from doing a creation.

I will continue to improve images before this game is released.

I have used some moments where most people will jump from their seats. I have also used spooky'ish themes with sudden mood changes. I have also included Voice as well as text and player footstep sounds to add atmosphere.

The story line is basic and actually happens, finding missing children. Only this one is with a twist in that the place you look for them is haunted by very evil spirits who were the staff there who got sent to the electric chair for murdering children.

QuoteI also find it an odd design choise to make the anxiety level clearly visible to the player, in my opinion that would be something that should be conveyed through visual / audio / dialogue ques, rather than a plain bar.
You may well be right, but the bar can raise / lower in certain situations where you need to seek out solace.
I also have a heart (beating) that could of course could show (own gui) when your anxiety level gets too high.

My main aim is to get the story right and present an almost flawless scripting.

Food for thought

cheers Wham

I'm quite intrigued to see how the 'anxiety bar' works. Is it just a meter that tells you the anxiety level of the player, or does it have an effect on the gameplay (like the sanity meter in Eternal Darkness)?  Either way, it's great if you can code something a bit different like this. Best of luck.

Man, the detective needs to get lessons from Trilby in dealing with anxiety!  If he gets a heart attack, he'd probably "know the name of the King"!

Ever since I saw DeceasedCrab on YouTube do a Let's Play of "Trilby's Notes", I can't help but think of the X Days series every time I see a horror-related game.  Now you understand why I always associate the X Days series with any new horror adventure game that's on here.  And likewise here.

I wonder if Cabadath/the Tall Man/the Prince might make a cameo in this game?

DBoyWheeler

Well, there is one cameo by a certain well-known figure.

Stupot,

If your anxiety level gets too high then you need to find a way to calm back down! You are much too frightened to proceed at such a high anxiety level! If you do get to the very high anxiety level your heart will show up on the screen and be beating like crazy until you calm down. Along with an 'urgent' sound playing.

Things don't look good when you come across an old underground tunnel system!
Can you navigate without a map or can you find one???
Can you find a light source to help you see in the perpetual darkness.
Will your heart give way to an anxiety attack?

Your quest to find the missing children of de Sade continues into the fractured world of spiritual darkness!

If you can find a tunnel outlay map that would be better.

Have a ghoulish ride on an old train wagon, if you can get it running  8-)

Main character and female ghosts are being voiced.

*Still looking for evil male ghosts and narrator voice actor.

More screenies soon.....

Overall Game progress: 60%

New scene

Can YOU:

* Find and then get a map of the tunnel sewer system (was a barge canal and then a metal mine)?
You see your position on the map move as you change tunnels.
* Find the components needed to make a homemade battery?
* Get an electric wagon working to have the 'ride of a lifetime'...?
* Score a penalty kick?
* Rescue a child that has fallen into the smelly sewer?
and more....

Game Progress 60%

Voice Actors and Testers always wanted.

If you find a boat you can row along the sewer canal in your quest to find missing children.
Oh, and if you feel your heart is about to explode swollow an anxiety pill or two  8-)

This is my first attempt at video capture. I recorded it in preview (should be 640 x 480) and it also has oar splashes that you can't hear in this capture but it DOES have the background music playing.

Dear an Urpney

you have not listed any skills you can offer on your profile.

You have, however, tested one game. No offence, but I doubt that you have the experience I am looking for.

;)

I have one competent tester so far and seek others to indulge in the darkness and do their stuff.

Update: Voice acting still in progress.

Hey, cool, I haven't noticed that Dave gave me a credit for testing his game!
Anyways, no offence taken  :) Good luck with the project, certainly will play it when it comes out.
