Hi all,
I'll make it short:
============================
This is a remake of How they found silence (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=38705.0).
The original game was cool and very immersive, but the graphics were very basic and I thought the game deserved a little upgrade.
All credits (except for the new graphics and scripting) go to the original game's creator, discordance (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=9910).
DOWNLOAD THE DEMO (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=IXDX8VUM) (Megaupload).
SEE THE VIDEO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6cERTKGH20) (just a little joke, don't worry, the game will still be a drama).
EAT THE GAZPACHO (http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/83/Tomato_gazpacho.jpg)

Game progress:
============
Music: 100% (ripped from discordance (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=9910)) - by the way, check it out, it's brilliant.
Story: 100% (ripped from discordance (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=9910))
Dialogs: 100% (ripped from discordance (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=profile;u=9910))
Graphics: 10%
Scripting: 30% (implemented a few little things like non-blocking Sierra-style dialogs).
Don't mind me while I'm quietly FUCKING ORGASMING here.
edit: You're not going to make it first person, are you? Please tell me you are not. ::)
Ouuxey rocks! A part of that was previewed at Mittens and we went all "wow"!
Honestly, I can't thank you enough for this, I think this looks amazing!!
I hope discordance and you, coordinate this and make this awesome!
I hate to be like a fanboy, but f@#^ it, this is FANTASTIC.
Yeah, the last screenshot only tells half of the story.
Download it and be impressed!
Holy moley!

I am! What's wrong with first person? I think in that case it's perfect for immersion. :D
(The only thing that gave me trouble is "how to deal with the evil puppet appearing in your back when you're not looking?" -- but I think I've found a way ;-))

The beach screenshot will eventually include the animated sea that was kindly painted-over in the Critics Lounge.
And also plenty more cool animations to come now that I master the Youtube-ripping Process™ ;-)
Haha by the way
here is a little game for you forumers: Can you spot all the elements of graphics that come from the actual Mittens house and surroundings? :-)
Besides the Irish weather? ;D
<pseudo-mod> there is no reason for double posting, when there's an edit button, right? ;) </pseudo-mod>

Fuck you. Do you hear me? FUCK YOU.
Oh wait, are you the abstauber who's waiting for my tiles for the last 3 months? ;D
Love you. Do you hear me? LOVE YOU.
Edit: I actually made the effort of including the third screenshot so that nobody would say "hey the first one doesn't count it's the title screen, you're not respecting the forum's rules, biatch!"... So your comment hurts :'(
hehe... how strong is that coffee that they're serving at your office?! :=
Btw. off-topic talk in a GiP Thread is also a rule violation so I'd better reply something useful now:
I loved your presentation at Mittens - please get this done.

You mean we can enter the mansion? I got a "work in progress" pop-up...
And stay on topic or you'll find yourself with a locked thread ;)

No you can't :) But that doesn't mean that a lot of the graphics can't come from Rosslare Strand :-)

Well, nothing wrong in general, but for one, the original wasn't in first person and I loved it the way it was. Additionally, it's a matter of taste and perception and I usually find 3rd person games more immersive. It is of course your remake and your call to make, but as a fan of the original I'd definitely prefer to see it in third person as well. For me it'd kill quite much of "geniuine" feel, but well, it's just me. Just sharing an opinion. I appreciate your effort very much and look forward towards the final result either way.
In fact - just allow people to use your artwork for yet another remake of the game in 3rd person if somebody would want to make one. That way I won't be able to complain since if I really want I can just build another version myself and everybody will be happy.

All my work is always open source (provided it's not used to create something evil).
I'll post the game files when I'm done, after I double-check with discordance if it's OK.

Very kind of you! Appreciate it. Good luck with completing this. :)

Pleasepleaseplease let there be a Skull Mountain sand castle!
I was actually talking to someone about how much the Rosslare strand (or, in my opinion: beach) reminded me of your screens, drawn before we got there. It'll be nice to see how the scenery makes it into the game.
These graphics look great, and I love the sailing effect in the intro (assuming the demo looks more or less like what we saw at Mittens). I'm sure a lot more of us will give the game a go when it's supposed to be great
and it looks like that.
I ALSO LIKE THIS!
And I'm curious to see how it works in first person.
I wish someone would remake one of my games like this ;D... lol.
Looks lovely! Downloading the demo now! :P

Any chance that you'll share with the rest of the class?
Are you downloading looping scenes from YouTube, breaking them in 10 frames, making it an object and animating it? Are you turning it into the background?

Interesting! So you yourself don't think 3rd person is essential? :)

I do not think that it is essential for one's vision of a particular story to tell it exactly as it's predecessor's. I do agree that I'd be
more interested in this, since I am a HUGE fan of the original, if it were in 3rd person (because I 100% agree with you that 3rd person is more immersive - personally I am NOT a fan of 1st person games, no matter the genre), but this is someone else's vision of the original story. And at least he is a big enough fan to make a remake of it :) Maybe this will initiate other interpretations of this game, or even others.

See that other thread (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=44330.msg591416#msg591416).
Bump. I uploaded a little promotional video (added to the very first post of the thread)
This looks great!
I loved the original , and I'm glad it's getting a makeover. 1st person is perfect for the game's atmosphere, so no complaints from me.
Good luck!
