Title: Jon Stickman (demo available)
Post by: scotch on Wed 31/12/2003 23:55:59
One of the most highly praised games previewed at Mittens 2003 is now available for the public's adoration, and before 2004 too (GMT)!

Following the adventures of Jon Stickman in his quest for the love of a girl you will experience many exciting locations, a cast of interesting characters all rendered in gorgeous stickman style!  Discover the corruption in our healthcare services, the lengths one man can go for his love and the number of animations AGA can force me to do some time in the future when the game is out, for now try this demo.

Due to wanting the demo out in 2003 and it being 2004 in 5 mins this hasn't been tested, have fun!

Excellent little Demo guys, the puzzles are quite challenging, it took me a while to figure it all out, but I got there, maybe a few more interactions and unhandled events.

Spoiler
just a couple of small things I noticed:
The car trunk walkbehind is a bit strange I think, it was hard to figure out what it was supposed to look like, It seemed it was behind the car, were there brown straps attached to it, cause there was some thin walkbehind even when the trunk was closed.

You could walk through the trampampoline

With the electricity box, the bottom part of it could still be interacted with the hammer after it was already open.

And a couple of big things I noticed:
The size of the breasts on the stick figure, very cute, I enjoyed playing with her bush too.

Quite an enjoyable game, Look forward to it.

Glad you enjoyed it.
'few more interactions and unhandled events.' - Believe me now, AGA? :P

Yeah the walk behind is probably a bit odd. there are loads of little problems at the moment, they'll be fixed in a day or two.

cool demo with clever puzzles and an "alternative" design.

however (arggg! you hate when they say "however", don't you?), I noted several bad points:

- when you interact with an item in you inventory, sometimes, a part of the text is out of the screen (at the right).

- you can build the frame without the hammer

- the text of "nope! i can't use this thing with this thing" is a little bit too long.

- when you want to "exit" from the trunk/pannel, you must interact/look the "exit" zone... i think that it will be easier if you just need to click on this zone.

- there's something wrong with the dad's stickman...some white pixels surround his head.

- when you look the sign, you see "41" and when you look the front door, you see "37"...problem?

BUT I like the demo and I'm waiting for the complete game  ;D

Hey, I've been looking forward to this!
The graphics style is, most of all, very elegant! Congratulations for the guitar playing animation, as well. In fact, the visual aspect is the strongest point of this demo.
In my opinion, it lacks some kind of opening, introduction and a bit of exploring in between the puzzles - as it is extremely puzzle heavy, I would like some more exposure on the characters...

Point taken, Gold, but bear in mind this is the first, and shortest, act. The full story, and interaction between the characters will come later in the game. However, scotch and I do plan to add a bit of an explanation of what's happening sometime later, probably when we get all the bugs and suggestions fixed.

Search the hat. Use the wire on the hook, then use the hook+wire on the car...

For the last time, Vel, progress will not continue until scotch returns from disappearo-land. You ask me this on IRC at least once a week :P

Maybe Scotch is off on a trip with RickJ, who has mysteriously disappeared also.  Beginning to worry about him (he's the admin of the group site!  :o )

The music, by Flippy_D, was  whipped up at the last moment for the demo. We'll try to get something more appropriate for the finished game. And to speed JS' walk speed up :P
