... and don't forget to check out our first demo version next month!!!
A fan-remake of a fan-adventure? :D
Sounds crazy but I love the idea!
No bugs or crashes? How dull... ;)
Is this really the place for piss-take threads?
We won't force you to play it, Sslaxx. Maybe.
I'm thoroughly confused... how could you do a remake of a game that came out three days ago?
Whoops... I thought this was the "Completed Games" forum. :-[
Just please, for god's sake don't use that awful narrator.
Oh, and write some real dialog. I'd definitely play this.

real dialogs and
no awful narrators to features.
You're kidding right? You know they already had problems releasing their own game, so you might just stop as surely you won't get permission to release this (especially as it seems to use artwork from the original games)...

That's bullshit. Firms don't give a shit about anonymously made fan remakes or sequels. They are just pissed off about a few publicity whores that abuse trademarks to hype themselves.
Oh my gosh! :o Do you need a beta tester? Please Please Please Please :)
The only reason why Vivdendi (?) cared about The Silver Lining was because they flew WAY over the radar and publicized themselves way too much. Same with the SQ7.org guys, although that is arguable. Infamous Adventures and AGD Interactive released their remakes just fine without much hassle, IIRC.

Yep they released their old remakes, but aren't allowed to release any new remakes if they decided to do one (just check their site).

Check their site for yourself. IA has just announced another King's Quest adventure game.
IA is releasing Space Quest II on schedule, and a King's Quest game, as KQIX-Team said.
And as for AGD-I:
QuoteOnce we have finished tying up all the loose ends with our current project, we will not be remaking any more Sierra games. Unfortunately, the time required to create games as detailed and complex as these is no longer something that we have the resources or time to do pro-bono. Making these games requires an immense amount of dedication, willpower, commitment, and a great number of personal sacrifices. And while we have learned many valuable things from remaking these titles over the years, the situation has certainly taken its toll on us.
Seems less like legal worries and more like lack of resources and no longer being worth it.
But anyway, back on topic: KQ9 looks so far to be truer to the classic VGA style, which I absolutely love.
Are you looking into voice acting in the near future? AGDI and IA both managed to get Josh Mandel to voice Graham in their KQ remakes. It might have been for free, I'm not sure.

Are you looking into voice acting in the near future?
Well, not in the
near future. Check this out:
- Next month we'll release a demo. It features the rooms of the castle.
- Two or three months later we'll release an 1:1 2D-remake of episode 1.
- After this we'll remake all other episodes (2-5).
- After this we'll put all episodes into one game and rerelease it.
- After this we'll start to add additional stuff and release the game as KQ9 Plus.
- After this we can talk about voice packs... or start a remake of KQ8... ;)
Any questions? ;D
Lucasfan, is that you?
QuoteSame with the SQ7.org guys, although that is arguable.
Actually, SQ7 hardly did any promoting when they were still around. The thing that did them in was the fact they tried to get official permission, but ultimately couldn't reach an agreement with VU about the terms.
QuoteSeems less like legal worries and more like lack of resources and no longer being worth it.
It's both, actually. Activision did say we could finish what we started, but couldn't start anything new. But even if we were allowed to start any new remakes, I don't think we would since we're no longer the college-students-with-too-much-free-time we were 10 years ago.

exciiiiiited. i already giggled 3 times at your posts in this thread so that's a good sign. wish i could help... i don't have any real SKILLS or TALENTS per se... but I can root from the sidelines and massage your ego and/or bring you beers. whatev helps.
I'LL BE WATCHING... ;D
Thanks for the clarification, Erpy.
Can't wait for KQ9 to come out. I've been playing TSL for an hour or two now, and.. well, I'll save my comments for the Adventure Chat/Talk forum thread on the subject. ;)
Funny lol......but I'd still play it.
I'm very excited about this, so excited that I've just decided to start working on a remake to your game, hopefully you'll finish yours before I finish mine ;)
Whatever this is, this is brilliant. := I nearly laughed my ass off when I saw this. :D So thanks, guys, for making my day.
I have removed all the off-topic posts! The Hero / KQIX-Team ... please take the "is this for real?" posts into PMs and settle this there!
I understand this is a hot-topic that sparks some emotion but we need to stay on target in this thread. There really is no way to "prove" one way or t'other (short of going to KQIX-Team's house and seeing it on the computer there) so we just need to accept it. The thread doesn't break any rules (even if a tad mean-spirited) so it's "legal".
Let's all light a fire, sing some songs, and get along now...

You have to wait a few seconds until the download link appears.
I don't remember Grahm being this buff in Kings Quest V. You should also turn on the movement linked to animation property. Keep at it!
I am not impressed.

9. Someone has posted a piece of work that you don't really like. How should you reply?1. "That sucks, you suck!"
2. "I am not impressed."
3. "Good first attempt, but here's how you could improve it:"
It seems you missed the irony there. Oh well.

13. You feel the need to reply to a thread, but you don't really have anything to contribute - what should you do?1. Just reply with a smiley or 'zing'.
2. Reply saying "I don't really have anything to add but I thought I'd better post".
3. Don't reply at all.
24. You make a critical reply to a poster who insulted your game. He then replies to clarify that his "insult" was intended ironically and was, in fact, meant as a compliment - what should you do?
1. Ignore the content of his latest post and continue to criticize his posting.
2. Ignore any future posts by him altogether.
3. Admit that you missed the irony in his post and thank him for his support.

Okay, I've checked Grahams animation now and it looks fine to me. What's the problem in your oppinion? Does he walk too fast or too slow?
1. We should all STFU and get on well. Now, I just walked around the corridors, and I couldn't enter any door, so after 2 minutes I thought this is just a walking demo, is that so? (I'd like a hint please)
I liked the narrator's voice EVEN if she's a woman, I prefer her to that grumpy old bastard.
The atmosphere was very well set. Not sure if it fits throughout the game, cause I couldn't get much farther.

I mean if the movement speed is not linked to the animation, it can look like the character is gliding. thats the case in the demo. I think just that could really give the game an old fashioned feel.

Not at the moment, I'm afraid. The next demo will longer, I promise. But please don't expect too much. At this stage we just remake a game that doesn't have any puzzles.
ok all this is ripped even amy's narration the dialogue and music from TSL!!!

No it isn't. There's a lot of new stuff in the demo. We have new hall backgrounds and Graham animations. The narrator will be replaced as soon as we have a better one.
The demo remembered me the old good times :) very good work!
For now i don't have any criticisms... I will wait the next demo...

How are you planning on creating backgrounds that are not contained in KQVI, such as the courtyard?

Demo II is already finished. It will be released at the same day as Episode 2. We want to use the remaining time for making more old style close-ups like the one above. They will be the icing on the cake of Demo II.
Absolutely AMAZING!!!!!! you guys have brought me back a good number of years , this is GREAT work. I only wish that Activision would hire you guys on to create these and get paid for it. I can see that the Team has great passion for this.
Keep up the great work.
I don't get this - you guys obviously know how to do the programming part of things, why steal the story, the writing, and the audio from another team that's been working on their own project for almost a decade? Can't you come up with your own original work?
OK that sounds a bit harsh after re-reading and I don't mean it to be. I really am just curious.
why do it when all you have seen is the prologue? also i don't see how people here can humor this all this is is plagiarism with downgraded KQ5 graphics you even have to wait for thr REAL CREATORS to make EP 2 before you continue if going to make a KQ IX fine but have respect for the time and effort being spent on making TSL there are a lot of improvements based on both positive and negative feedback given coming in EP 2 and on if you wanna make a game MAKE SOMETHING ORIGINAL
Okay ... this is getting out of hand.
I'm not going to lock this thread because it doesn't break the rules.
For those of you (fanboys or just irritated) who are posting the negativity because of allegiance to the original source material just relax a bit and stop posting in here. You aren't going to dissuade KQ1X-Team to stop their development (if anything you're making them more eager) and you're just clogging up the thread with off-topic negativity. I'm not taking sides here but nobody posts this kind of "why are you doing this" nonsense when somebody remakes... say ... police quest or space quest.
I do not want to start pruning these posts but I will if it continues like this. If you, for whatever reason, take offense at this game and feel the need to voice that, send KQIX-Team a PM (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?action=pm;sa=send;u=10834) to let him know and leave this thread alone.
well I'm looking forward to it. keep up the good work.

Please leave POS alone! Can you see how they overcame hinderances!
Take a break!
By the way KQIX-Team, I am looking forward in playing with demo!
Looking forward for demo 2!
Played the demo, was heavily disappointed to see that it's just inside the castle. That being said, I actually really prefer it in this style. I also like how the interface has been modified, a nice touch.
Really looking forward to Demo II and onwards.

Excellent! It is strongly forbidden in my religion to play electronic games with a resolution greater then 640x480. Now I can finally enjoy Kings Quest IX without getting blind! :)
is this project still alive?
I really hope so.
