First about true color I don't know I 'm always using 16 bit.
Seeing a 208 demo game is a thing you don't see quite often.
Just be patient and re-vise your game many times until it's perfect enough.
Be seeing ya. Always happy to help.
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

You can reduce the dpi from 300 all the way to 72 without noticably changing the quality of the graphics displayed in the game.  300 is the standard for good quality prints and 72 is often used for web graphics and other things that are not printed because a low dpi only makes a big difference in prints, not in how a computer displays the graphics.....    keep the high quality backups though in case you need to zoom in on something or make prints.  I would keep it at 800 * 600 though anything less then that starts to look a little to old-school for me.

Umm, I have a couple quick question for everyone/anyone; has anyone played the demo yet? Has anyone downloaded the file??? Just curious.......

The game is available on page 1 of my string, and on www.knightsquestcentral.bravehost.com/knights_quest-shield_search.html in Pando and FileFront Format.

Please let me know if you are having trouble downloading the file.

thewalrus

But the file is the same enourmous 406mb size. I thought it was being reduced!

voh

Yeah, and resaving/importing 208 backgrounds, redoing the hotspots, re-encoding the music, that can be done easily within 3 days.

Of course, that's assuming one doesn't have a life to spend most of that time on instead.

So please, thewalrus, cut them some slack - and be patient. I'm sure that they'll announce their new and improved version as soon as they're happy with it.
Still here.

You're oh so right. I was already advised to do so, and I am in the process of reducing my game beta/demo. Your patience is greatly appreciated.

Stay tuned to this thread for the latest updates!

Jon

I eventually downloaded this, heres my advice. Don't.

I was really looking forward to this game and even after I spent forty-five minutes downloading the 400Mb game I didn't complain as I thought it would be worth the wait for a game I was looking forward too. I then downloaded and unzipped the files into the same folder, set up the game settings and tried to enjoy the game. Unfortunatly when I watched the introduction it was incredibly buggy, with the walk sequence stopping repeatedly for a period of ten seconds, then walking towards the desired location and stopping again. After five minutes of a stuttering walkcycle and travelling through pointless rooms (which could/should have been deleted to reduce the size), I finally made it to the location stated at the beggining of the introduction. The introduction then moves on, and with ten minutes gone I was getting frustrated, this game had promised me enjoyment which I had been waiting for since this topic was started, and it was not. I then finaly made it into a strange cave scene when an error was displayed, stating that my character was not in the room which I had seen him walk in, this was a bug which may not have been your fault, but it was simply not acceptable. How do you expect people to play and comment on your game when they can't even play it?
I advise that you redo the intro of this game, sort out the bugs in the walkcycle and any other bugs which may be present. If this happens then I and others can gladly give a positive comment about your game, rather than negative.

Jon:

Thank you for your time and energy in testing out my rough game. I apologize for the buggy quality of my game. I appreciate your advice. That's why like I mentioned before, I will be refraining from uploading future game updates, until, the game size and bugs are significantly reduced. Also the game is far from over. Actually, the actual adventure has not quite yet begun.

Thanks again for your patience with my noobie programming. Please don't download this 400 + M.B. game any more everybody. I will let you know when it is safe to download, and I will announce a beautifully reduced version of this game, with significant improvements in the near future. Your kind understanding is greatly appreciated!

Development Updates

SO FAR:

Saturday, September 1, 2007:

Due to all the [constructive] criticism on our actual Game Beta/Demo Release, we've decided to give the actual game programming a break, and focus on fine-tuning the Plot, and fleshing out all the characters better.  To do this, I've designed a very ROUGH Draft of the Game Story of Knight's Quest: Shield Search. You can click the link to the special Blog I designed for the pages:

http://knightsquestshieldsearchdraft.blogspot.com/2007/08/knights-quest-shield-search.html

Please keep in mind, that this is a ROUGH Draft, so it is open to corrections. The Characters and Story Development may very well have to be altered. I just had to first build a basic foundation to understand in detail, the route the Hero will make on his adventure. You will notice it is written in Choose-Your_Own-Adventure Style.  This is so , in order for the reader to get a better feel of the rpg adventure game plot choices. I feel this will greatly improve the Game in the long run.

We are also planning to transfer a Good Draft story in Mind Map format using this Website: www.bubbl.us

In the meantime, I'm working on designing a Good Draft Version in Storybook Format in as a PDF File. This will show the reader the entire game plot path, if the player made it through the game successfully (minus an untimely death).

I hope everyone finds the story interesting, and I am open to ideas and suggestions that would help us improve the quality of our RPG/Adventure Game.

 :o !SPECIAL NOTE! :o

I've consulted with my friend, the Creator of THIS version of "Knight's Quest", and we've both agreed that we realize the name "Knight's Quest" is grossly overused. We want to leave our own special mark.  We've agreed on the NEW name:

Knights Of Kooragalot: Shield Search

Thanks so much for all your help

I will notify everyone on Game Progress.

Stay tune to this Forum for the latest Game Updates... :D

Music: 21%

As I mentioned before, me and my partners are focusing on the story and characters more, however, I am still learning Script Commands in the new AGS. With the help of FearfulAce, the Creator of Knight's Quest: Shield Search, I have designed a PDF ebook version of the complete Game Story if the hero doesn't die. It is pretty straight forward, with no alternate decisions as of yet. Just straight to his goal. It, of course, is not done, so your patience is appreciated. From time to time, I will leave updated PDFs for download as they come.

Please check out my latest Story Update - Monday, November 5, 2007: http://www.flyupload.com/?fid=2463381

It's not done, but is making great progress. Please tell me your helpful opinions and suggestions.

Also, feel free to check my blog, it is linked to my banner below.

Nelly Kooragalot?

Shield search ahoy? :p

Your game looks epic, which is quite interesting. Keep it up :)

Thanks for your kind words. Yes! This RPG/Adventure Game is a tribute to such classics as The Lord of The Rings, STAR WARS, Stargate SG-1, Pirates of the Caribbean, King Arthur Legends, Indiana Jones (of course) and other great Sci-Fi/Fantasy Stories.

You've glanced over the PDF Storybook Draft?

Remember everybody, you can also leave comments, suggestions and questions on my Blog.

m0ds

Um, at which point did Stargate SG1 become a classic? I thought it had been classified as a mediocre sci-fi movie spin-off of a movie that wasn't even that great to begin with..

LOL, i'm only teasing ;) Good luck!
