The perspective seems a little off... anyway, seems like this will be an interesting game.

I think it looks better then any of your other game so far. I like the style. Also I think it is a good thing using the old sierra type of controls. Make sure that you don't rush trying to make the game. Remember, it is worth taking longer instead of sacrificing quality for speed.....  ;)

I've done it before(at least in Monkey Island)
Thanks for the comments.

Looks good, though I'd really like to see what the main character is going to look like.

No offence but those Paint shop Pro light effects look terrible

edit by Darth - this is hardly helpful ... keep the CL type comments out of this thread.  If he wants/needs the CL he'll post in there.

IMO I think it gives the pictures a nice effect. Not something I would use alot in my backgrounds though.

Hey there, people, I'm Bobby Brown
They say I'm the cutest boy in town
My car is fast, my teeth are shiney
I tell all the girls they can kiss my heinie

But yeah, Whitney's ex was the first guy that came to mind. Go back to Dave Dell.
(Weird song to get hero-inspiration from....)

Dell is also an inspiration from a song.
Running Down a Dream - Tom Petty

Lyrics
It was a beautiful day, the sun beat down
I had the radio on, I was drivin
The trees went by, me and del were singin
Little runaway, I was flyin

I should stop listening to music.

Yeah, I can't imagine a hero that brings to mind crack-head Bobby Brown. Even if that wasn't the BB you had in mind...

I was thinking of various music styles and i have decided that a jazz/soul/blues like music could be the perfect one for my game. Anyone offering to compose for me? Should I try for a different music style?

I say coloured.
The BGs shown in the first post have some kind of appeal, that comes fro mthe colours and the lightning you choose. I say keep it. :)

I also think that you should keep things coloured. It won`t spoil the noir-atmosphere at all, unless you are trying to make your game look like classic noirs. Take a look at Deja Vu for example, it uses pretty much all the colours the systems allowed back then but the game is as noir as ever.

Besides, I really dig those backgrounds that way.

Only the logo music was something memorable from my game? That's.... good , i guess.

Didn't mean to sound that way. Though I like the snowflakes falling outside. Background looks very nice too , but the character sprites don't fit it to me, they are too blocky up close. The gui could use some work as every time you try to click on something it reverts back to the walk animation.

Other than that, its a good game which could use improvements. I usually don't like to comment on demos since they are basiclly demos of unfinished games. The final product usually ends up diffrerent. And I'm sure this will probably be the case with this game. Just don't give up on it and do your best. Making games are hard for me, but I'd be damn proud if I could create something like this.

Update @$$@
----------------------
It's been a while actually , but for those interested I'm correcting the biggest problem , low resolution characters. Plus I remade the Menu(Total remake), and completed the notebook GUI. Just that.

By the way I REMADE ALL THE CHARACTERS, AND ITEMS
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@

The storyline looks very much like Jack Orlando. Very interesting...

Will there be any references to other adventures (except Sam&Max logo music)?
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Dualnames on Tue 08/05/2007 21:12:47
The SamNMax logo music is past. And many things have been improved. Good notice though.

References are:
Discworld Noir.
Day of the Tentacle.
Monkey Island.
Sam N Max.
Tex Murphy.

Movies:
Beverly hills Cop
Police Car 54
and some other stupid b-cop movies.

Mostly is Police Quest, but ,unlike that old sierra hit, I'm entering the police world from the back door.

I've only seen the teaser from Jack Orlando anyway. If you have any suggestions feel free to post em. I'm thinking of the idea that Dave Dell has a metallic object in his head.

Well, some mystics and/or science fiction?
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Dualnames on Wed 09/05/2007 19:37:22
Yeah mostly that. I just want the character to be like cult or something. And the game of course to be likewise. If you want me to explain each one of my references do tell. Thanks for your comment on Monkey Island by the way.
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Cyrus on Thu 10/05/2007 07:09:49
Not at all. But what kind of references? References in dialogues, cameo appearances or something else?
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Dualnames on Fri 11/05/2007 21:54:14
Well, in everything. No special appearances decided yet. But for example what I liked most in Day of the Tentacle was it's incredible puzzles. I mean real smart. I want mine to reach that level. DiscNoir has an awesome atmosfere and a humour that passes through everything. Monkey Island especially Le Chuck's revenge has a goofy character and is like very original.
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Cyrus on Sat 12/05/2007 11:10:58
Well, Dave Dell llooks very much like Guybrush from LeChuck's revenge.
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Dualnames on Sat 12/05/2007 11:40:34
I know. It's a paintover. But I thought of using guybrush  to be a stupid idea so I remade all of the characters.
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Cyrus on Mon 14/05/2007 10:33:03
Well, it's your choice. But I've liked that Dave Dell. I hope the new one wouldn't be worse.
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Dualnames on Mon 14/05/2007 20:42:09
I remade him 3 times. The first one was for garbage , the second one had a problematic animation bu the third one is like awesome ( I think). Took my a year to animate him.

Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Cyrus on Fri 25/05/2007 12:58:50
Well, when are you planning to release it? The second half of 2007? 2008?
Title: Re: Lone Case @Demo AVAILABLE@
Post by: Dualnames on Sun 27/05/2007 00:18:38
Frankly i don't know. It depends. I was thinking since beta testing a game with 70 rooms would be impossible and hardly effective, I decided to split my game. Though i'm not sure I love the episode idea so much.

About the release of the game, well that beats me. But I think it will be ready from august 2007 till january 2008.

Well, is boss's death still in the plot?

and

What is the shape of your new GUI?
Title: Re: Lone Case : Locomotive Breath
Post by: Dualnames on Mon 02/07/2007 18:00:43
Still in plot. Though instead of finding him alive you reach the office and he is dead already. I added a whole hospital building. Morgue, Reception , Elevator, Management. The dialogs are working fine. Cult in a way, but not hilarious. I know I shouldn't post this here, but I would like a sample of a dialog between a cop and the undertaker. I think Lone Case2 would rock, but I'm not sure Lone Case 1 will be so good that people will check out Lone Case 2. Hopefully they will.

The GUI:
Like Curse of Monkey Island.
