Title: Long expected Friday - finished as far as I'm concerned...
Post by: passer-by on Sun 27/03/2005 19:39:35
Hi there!

This is  my Long Expected Friday (LEF) game.
Jane comes back home after a week from hell at work and wishes she could stay on that couch for a week. Ever heard of those jokes with the deaf genie?Ã,  That's what she had. Worst part: Jess and Jack were invited for the weekend and they are stuck there with her.

CP

If you think I forgot something about credits, please PM me and I'll fix it as soon as I can.

thanks for any feedback

Hey Cp, tried your game but I have to admit that it was rather confusing... the box that is your sprite's main character can glide through doors and walls (I'm not sure if that was intended), and yet there are some rooms that are unreachable. I tried interacting with the doors, furniture/objects -- hell, I even tried chatting with them, but didn't get any results. There's quite a few things that, in my opinion, should be straightened out/fixed before you have a fairly decent demo for people to play.Ã,

Now keep in mind that your plot needs a lot more work, the story sounds a lot like '5 Days a Stranger' to me, (the whole stuck-in-a-building-for-a-week-by-supernatural-forces was already used -- and well at that). If you mean to use that plot, at least be more specific/descriptive with your main character's background and her current situation/conflict - ask yourself: why should we care if Jane is stuck in a house for a whole week with her friend? Why should I get attached to this character when there is no real reason for me to get attached?

Instead 'show us', in her own words and actions, how her intense and agonizing week at work has made her border the edge of reason and the fact that her comfy couch at home is the only way out of that hellhole -- tell us of her despair, her irritation, her exhaustion and yet make sure that in some ways your character(s) will grow (even if it's in a very minimal way) throughout the game. Mayber after a week stuck in her home with hard-to-deal-with events and conflicts, she will come to realize that her work environment wasn't so bad after all.

That way we will sympathize with her, feel, grow and care for her.

I hope this will help you into developping certain aspects of your game to make it better. Remember that this is just my opinion and I don't mean any disrespect. It's hard to put a good game together from scratch and I respect the fact that you are working hard on creating something for everyone to enjoy. I'm really looking forward to seeing more of your game. Good luck!Ã,  ;)

"Hey Cp, tried your game but I have to admit that it was rather confusing... "
/// well, at least you din't receive error message

"the box that is your sprite's main character can glide through doors and walls (I'm not sure if that was intended)"
/// not intended, of course, just havent fixed walk behinds etc yet.

"and yet there are some rooms that are unreachable. I tried interacting with the doors, furniture/objects -- hell, I even tried chatting with them, but didn't get any results."
//// there are things you have to do first. What about the cat?

"There's quite a few things that, in my opinion, should be straightened out/fixed before you have a fairly decent demo for people to play."
//// Well, I have to admit it. But it was not quite a demo to play, but a demo of what's going on. Even the house is still empty.

////As for characters background etc, it's on the way, I'm just not the person who has a program, I always work at what I like at a certain moment. There's not even an intro or something yet.

///As for the plot, maybe it was used before (cant say I played every game_) butÃ,  the thought was original - my own thought on a Friday afternoon actually - and a joke " what if the genie was listening at the moment?"

///Oh, and the square wont remain a square and the inventory items wont keep lying on the floor to be found...

///Anyway, thanks for trying this and for your suggestions.

Edit - 27 Apr 05

More rooms and puzzles; some rooms are still puzzleless but I'm working on it...
I guess I'll need help with music and voices at some stage.

Edit - 15 Apr 05

a) Added puzzles, rooms, some more dialogues, score is nowÃ,  20.
b) Still silent, though...
c) Haven't fixed head yet.
d) Uploaded new tester.

Edit - 10 Apr 05

a) Added a couple of puzzles in puzzleless rooms.
b) Still pulling hair re sprites.
c) Now score is 18 points , not 15.
d) Working on more puzzles and rooms, but they are not operable yet.

Didn't make much progress, just coloured rooms a bit, decided that all rooms are reachable but items aren't and updated website to contain a page on Game (as short as the game itself , though!).

:-\ I think I'd better wait and work on an ideaÃ,  and itsÃ,  possible outcome before I make a (presentable) background for it...

Edit - 30 May 05

Figured out how to get rid of the Genie. Story is complete, I just need rooms to put it in...
Fixing errors at the moment, but ...
Also tried music, but every single file I use sounds weird when in game, although it is fine when I jsut listen to it using a player...

Edit - 28 May 05

I couldn't find anything interesting on genies as far as their "personality" is concerned, and nothing related to ways to get rid of them apart from putting them back in the bottle, lamp or other item, and I hate the thing with the three wishes...

Still working on puzzles and dialogues...

Edit - 23 May 05

Working on credits , rooms, dialogues...

Edit - 13 May 05

Been lazy latelyÃ,  (=been playing games and workingÃ,  and stuff)
Some details in the firstÃ,  LEF roomsÃ,  fixed, adding last touch toÃ,  the parts that are ready so that I can start doing the rest of it.

I guess I'll need help with music and voices at some stage.

From the screenshots, your game looks as if it has very nice graphics. But i would rather wait and play the finished game than play unfinished versions without puzzles etc.

OK, let's say that it's not puzzleless any more...but still unfinished.
