Im starting a game called Lord of Kings; Quest of Destiny.
Now this game is intended to feel like a Sierra Title. Why? Why not, i've always loved Sierra of old. Infact i've loved King Quest Series since... hell since i can remember having a PC. This is why also this game will be quite a lot like KQ.
So, before all of you burn me for not being original :P, i give you the starting story.
"A war that took place long ago, when two realms fought each other for longer than anyone can remember. The bloodshed would seem to never end. These were the feuding realms of Saville and Nursia.
But as Nursia pushed foward with the brutal tactics of King Mustafa's General, Sein... Soon the Realm of Saville was crushed.
Victory was claimed and Mustafa came to receive the formal surrender of King Alonso, lord of the fallen realm. But to his horrendous surprise, all the court of Saville was brutally killed under the sword of General Sein. As Mustafa was about to return to his realm, his wife, Soraide.. found in the throne of Alonso, a child, a baby boy... heir of Alonso..., Diego.
And so Soraide took young Diego back with her to Nursia, with the idea of razing the boy with her daughter of same age, but Soraide fell great ill, and soon passed, and Diego was left alone.
King Mustafa, gave Diego to his brother Ali, who razed Diego well.
Diego, soon grew to become a man and also grew to love a woman, princess of Nursia, Mustafa's only child, Zamira. Because of this love, Diego is forced into exile, and after his departure King Mustafa is murdered, leaving General Sein in power and Ali in prison blamed for the death of Mustafa.
Now, Diego learns of such deeds, and also hears the news of Sein wanting to take his place as King rightfully by marrying.. the Princess of Nursia.. Zamira.
what shall Destiny prepare for Diego and us all?"
Sounds complicated and long, yes could be.
But since it is my first proyect i will attempt to try and make it what a decent game should be (by first AGS game standards).
Let the official news of my game development become official!!!
please tell me what you think, also i need ideas for puzzles, remember its a desert realm based game.
p.s
dont think the game is on paper i started it about a month ago, but i didnt want to annouce it ;), and i feel its in a pretty good solid starting stage i just need ideas and chat to give me feedback.

The second pic looks like Prince of Persia 2.
Oooooh!
Indeed you ARE an aspiring game creator. :)
Looking forward to seeing more of your game! Best of luck!
BTW: Is the game inpired by Spanish history in any way? :)
the second pic IS from prince of persia 2, except that it's in a desert instead of a dock
Sounds pretty good, I like the style. I suppose Diego won't be welcomed in the land, after being exiled, so I guess he'll be sneaking around alot. That should make for some good puzzles.
I do recommend changing the main character though, he doesn't fit in with the desert scenery, being King Graham and all.
All in all, looks great, I look forward to seeing more.
Yes, some graphics where pulled from Prince of Persia, i felt that pulling graphics, isnt too bad a crime. Gives the feel of something already seen but different. Besides most of them have extensive edits.
about the Graham, graphic... hum i kinda wanted people to know it was Graham :P only changed in certain ways.. such as diferent color hair and clothes (so it was intended).. besides (he might be related to the Daventry Royal family.....kidding). I know he doesnt fit in.. thats kinda what i wanted. Its a constant reminder that he's an outsider.
now, regarding if he's hated,.. well.. yes and NO!..
people in the realm are friendly towards him, after all he's almost the figure of their prince. Most of them feel bad for him. Even some of the outside guards...
but once you reach the castle... THE STORY CHANGES... get ready to sneak around and use covert tactics.
If the game is influenced by Spanish history.. (yeah sort of) but it is not mentioned as the realms and world are fictional. (like KQ)
remember... all, its a small game project. So its not gonna be nearly as big as a Sierra Game. After all i am working.. solo. ;D
Now, im open to many ideas.. such as puzzles. I need puzzles (not too complicated) for the Castle, and some for the outside world.
the game features:
12 outside environments, 6 are plain desert.
i have about 5 inner town environments, and im still waiting for castle environments about 12. and maybe 5 underground environments.
12 refer to the overall small world.
5 are mostly shops or misc.
and 5 are tunnels towards castle.
the rest is pure castle.
although i might add more, i think this is a good starting basis.
so you can give me puzzles based on those environments.
I've just started the new site for my little company. A&A Games.
So now, the site is official for the game, LOK: QOD...
take a peak!

I knew I recognized it! BTW, That guy in your avatar is familiar somehow... What was the name...
The name is...
Hollywood Hulk Hogan, (when he was a heel wrestler)... Known World Wide as Hulk Hogan, the most famous wrestler of all time.
yey wrestling *sigh* :p
GAME SOUND GOOD BTW, the edited POP bg fits the style nicely
-OSC
Someone didn't recognise Hulk Hogan? Heathen! ^_^
Looks like a good game, I'm looking forward to seeing it completed. I always love games done in good ol' Sierra fashion.
So far some rather nice NPC's have been added, although i cant say i got exactly what i wanted i believe its good.
Does anyone have a suggestion about a good puzzle, or desert mythology...
The game looks good, and the story seems pretty good. I think I can help you with the desert mythology, I did a game a while ago, and half of it was in the desert:
1) Something with arabians guys, and camels, lots of camels...
2) How about a Genie? They're in the desert, and they are mythology...
3) Some giant bug, that crawls under the sand, looking for flesh, may be yours... yes, yours seems fine...
4) A puzzle may happen in an oasis
5) Something borrowed from the Egyptian culture may work, have you seen Star Gate?
6) Mirages are the ultimate puzzle in Adventures
That's all, I can think more if you want to, just tell me
Don't thank me! I'm just the messenger between the ideologic realm, and the reality (just kidding! ;-)
For music, you're going to need lots of arabian-type music. I don't know if you know anything about music, but if you have a composer, he should so alot of things in harmonic-minor keys, as they are very desert/arabic sounding.
Ya'll know there's deserts elsewhere but Arabia, don't you? lol I think Sinister's going for a more "Spanish arabia" feel. I think it could be pulled off, but it'll be fun.
Don't botch it and I think the graphic stealing will be fine. Its no worse than using the default Roger or Ego sprites. :)
Keep us posted, and don't make it too short. :) If you have to, make it in chapters, so the plot has time to develop. With the AGS file functions you could make an export-import option to import your inventory etc. from episode to episode.
hmm yes, i've already incorporated a Genie into the story. The other ideas are good,.. i like this mirrage puzzle idea, but im thinking on how could it work?...
regarding the "Spanish Arabia theme..".. its kinda true, but it can be considered that he's in a more arabian country, since the two realms are seperated by a sea. Although its not really important since im not using real-world places.. so i could do anything..
About the arabian themes, yes i want to use them, but im also using some generic music and it looks and feels good.
About making it in chapters, thats what i was thinking not chapters, but a KingQuest.. (crap i forgot the word).. SAGA!.. yes im thinking of making a SAGA, so there will be a LOK II, and maybe many more, but for my first proyect i think this game size is decent.
When I opened this thread I thought the title read : Lord of the RINGS!
And I was thinking: "Why has nobody flamed this fool for trying to re-do a game done 10 million times?!"
But since I have realised it's lord of KINGS, I admit that it looks brilliant!
QuoteDon't botch it and I think the graphic stealing will be fine. Its no worse than using the default Roger or Ego sprites
But........ but......... but I
like Roger.....
You say it as though it's WRONG to use a pre-maid character with strange hair and eyes and walk-cycle and a pink shirt!

Neverhood?
Well, some recent news on the Game. I was frustrated because the game was crashing too often. So i found out that what was making it crash was the NPC codes, so their gone for the time being.
The puzzles for the game are about 60% complete, for the entire outdoor world, 3 main puzzles, such as mirrage.... linked with an oasis and that in turn linked with a genie. (all on paper ofcourse) currently working on the first puzzle.
An old fortune teller, is also included... now what we need are ideas for Castle related puzzles. So fire away!!!
Here are some other screenshots showing the game's progress.

Hey its awsome!!.. so cool man!!
i had preblems seeing the new screenshots, so i pasted the adress of the pics on the nav bar, and viola!!.. i saw them, cool!!.. GREAT!.. i like the desert one!
i have two questions, One.. can i help you in any way!... and two.. can you give us a progress report.. or maybe a small demo.?
;D.. (demo would be nice)
So when is the demo gonna be available?..
DEMO PLEASE!
After a week of working on the game, a few hours cause time is ticking away.... the first main puzzle is almost ready. (first sequence of the game..), as for the main storyline and puzzles evrything is finished... i also worked away on the BOX COVER!.. (this isnt a real box cover but, its the graphic intend to use to promote the game, based on the Sierra classic boxes!)..
also, i wont be making a demo, i rather finish the game as quickly and as great as i can, ... but i do need some help in one area, and thats the music department, so if anyone wants to send me some Mid's that they think might fit into the game, i'll gladly take them.
can i recommend adding a character that uses an amusing way to speak english, resulting in funny phrases, rather like the boy on the stall in Broken Sword one. Looks good though mate, keep it up!!!
Although it's obvious those 2 guest posts up there are from you !.. ?.. !!!.. )..
I hope you can finish this game!
pay no attention to this... i screwed up.
actually not from me but probably the same computer, im sharing it with my two roomates, who having been bugging me for quite sometime to make a demo. (why cause i've kept this proyect undercover and i havent let them touch it)...
But the general fealing is that, they have a point.. i need help with music.
and onto another topic, yes i will include i funny talker.. i dont know how he'll speak.. (boot shood bee gude..) ..ahh.. i dont know.. i'll figure it out.
New screenieslook great (one says "interrumpted", though
(http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/boxcover.jpg)
Here's the box art. Does it remind anyone of something?..
p.s
yeah, thanks. I noticed the problem and i already fixed it, though im too lazy to upload it again.
edit: heh now it works... Nice idea to make a box cover... and nice pic! 8)
Progress Report:
After a few days of working for a few hours, when time was available i managed to finish the first puzzle. (no not just one puzzle) by this i mean the first set of puzzle sequences that lead to a scene. Since the main world programming work is divided into (3 puzzles, or 3 sequences) i think its an ok job. Slow but still moving.
Also the website has been updated to include more correct info, (in the start the game was called, Lord of Kings: Destiny of Men. Although in the forums it had its debut as Quest of Destiny a name i liked better).. things like that and a few pics.
its at:

haha, very nice work Sinister. I've been lucky enough to get a sneak peek at it, since we've known each other way beyond AGS. Anyways, here's what I have to say:
The game starts out with a really well done main menu, awesome music too. From here, you can pick to view the introduction, play the game, go through the credits or exit.
The introduction is about... 10-15 minutes long I would say. It is very well done, excellent dialog. The storyline is very nice aswell, I won't give any hints towards it though so it'll be secret until it's released. Although the backgrounds are really cool in it.
From what I've played, I've seen 1 tiny quest and talked to loads of people. Walked through a bunch of desert, and done some almost pointless action as it seems. The game has a bit of humor in, and the music fits in really nicely. I'll get back to playing and maybe I'll think of some more stuff to add to this.
Alright after two weeks of slow, and rather uneven programming i can say that the second sequence of puzzles is done (or the second mini quest).
Although i am sticking to the original idea that i will not release a demo, i sent the demo to Ravenfusion a member of this AGS community, whom was a very good friend whom i hadnt seen on the web for a long time.
He's feedback, was very usefull.. and this has made me rethink about the whole demo idea. But i will decide on this issue till later..
As a part of a please the crowd strategy, i would like to ask all of you to tell me what kind of Monster would you like to see in the desert?
-Any monster idea that you have will be glady accepted.
a giant snake or lizard would go nicely with the desert theme.
This is the latest screenshot of the game, features some new improvements on details.

Camels and horses ( but mostly camels ) are often used in desert scenes too.
:-\ Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Uh, this game looks like an
Adventure Game spinoff of Prince Of Persia...I won't make final critisizms until I've played it. Reply, I wanna learn more about it
Nah, its just a adventure in the style of the original classic Sierra adventure games, namely King's Quest and Quest for Glory. ;)
Yes, its like Hollister Man says, its a game that fallows the tradition of original classics, mostly in King's Quest style.
I have managed to decide myself, and i believe that i will release a demo, but that means that i'll have to read the game up, for demo release so that might take a while.
keep those ideas, comming.
Im looking only for monster ideas.... quick deaths... not any kind of puzzles, so it doesnt have to have any story link.. its just for when.. example.. you step on a wrong stone.. a 3 headed chimera comes out and kills you!..
hey thats not a bad idea. :P
Hrmm. . .Ã, deasert creature?Ã, What about a scorpion?Ã, Scorpions almost go hand-in-hand with deserts.Ã, Plus it'll also help with the King's Quest feel you were talking about because both KQ5 and KQ7 had scorpions in it.Ã, 5 had the area where once you enter it the scorpion comes up and stings you for an instant death, and in 7 they had the giant scorpion.Ã, Although 7's was more an obstical to get past.Ã, But it still eventually killed you if you dwalded there too long.
8) ;D I have a nice idea for a puzzle.
You walk into this room with another player in like some temple or something. He has been needing help to gind this golden rare thing. He is on your side...until he gets the golden rare thing. Then he turns to escape, and traps you. Water starts filling up in the room from five giant holes. A message says "CHOOSE THE FIVE ITEMS FROM YOUR INVENTORY THAT WILL BLOCK THE HOLES" and if you don't have them you lose. But before hand you can gather items, and once you die you'll know to get those items. Challenging puzzle, and some items can be hard to get. Tell me what you think. 8) ;D
hhmm... very interesting.
It seems however difficult, ... but i very much like the idea. I think i'll think of a way to see if i can fit it in.
and scorpions??.. ofcourse.. no King Quest game can be complete without one!..
thanks keep those ideas comming.
p.s
demo version on the works.
Well after pushing some advanced debugging sessions, and preparing the game. I am glad to say that Lord of Kings Demo is now available.
Many, Many.. MANY features have not been yet incorporated to thsi demo, so it might be a bit difficult, but it does have a mini-quest, the first part of the story.
remember this is a first release, i would like comments on the game feel and look, but most importantly have fun.
Also, this is my first public release ever, so i want honesty, be it bad or good.
here's hoping for more good than bad!...
Ladies and Gentlemen i give you the Demo:
www.freewebs.com/aa_games/lok1.zip
p.s (you may have to copy and paste the link to the nav bar). Thanks.
I got a error saying that it's unable to load plugin "agsCreditz.dll"
for some strange reason i forgot to include the agscreditz.dll, in the zip. Anyhow i've uploaded it to the site, and you can download it here:
www.freewebs.com/aa_games/agscreditz.dll
(remember you may have to copy the link and paste it on the nav bar)
include this file in the same folder as the game exe. everything will run fine.
Sorry for the problem.
Very nice Demo. The introduction was told very well. I'm not sure if you could accomplish part of the goal or anything in the demo version cause I've been through all the areas and talked to everyone as many times as I coluld and didn't get to far ::) .
Regardless I'm very interested in this game and will be eagerly awaiting the final version when you complete it.
Thank you. Yes I took some good time on making the intro, that runs about 15 minutes long, you can acomplish sometyhing in the demo, but it could be very difficult without proper "universal messages" that i have not included in the demo, because it will be part of the final stages of the game's release.
But indeed you can finish the first sequence of the game, if you hunt down every possible room, and places to hide. I would recommend that you run the game full-screen, since some gamemakers.. are fans of the one pixel clue... :-X
I hope you continue to try and break the mini quest.
Sinister,
Hey! I liked your game very much. Good story..... the only thing I would say is you need to edit your text BADLY! Many spelling errors, capitalization problems, punctuation missing. ie. Diego was razed..... should be raised..... razed would mean he was destroyed! Hehe. If you need an editor, let me know.
Bt
Yeah i know... :P.. thats because thats what happens when you write a game quickly and sometimes one becomes even blind to some pretty big mistakes, such as.. i wrote on a previous version.... "Interumpted".. and you become blind to it all because, your checking out other stuff. Most of the editing for final details like that will be done, on the final stages, (when i will release a beta version of the game).. and i'll probably need some help, with double checking stuff like that, so if your interested stay in touch.
Thanks, for downloading a demo.. im glad you liked the game.
Well, I didn't get to play the whole thing, but I did play a fair bit of it... and I like it. You heard what I said in #ags earlier on, so I wont go in with the details here. Looking forward to the game, and you better finish it... SUCKAAAAA!!! ;)
Recently i havent been very active, but i have now started working on the game again. If things are cool, i'll probably finish it by late December...
