This seems great. I have to admit that I haven never played Maniac Mansion more than few minutes, but I loved DOTT. Now if this would have voice acting on par with DOTT, I don't think I could keep my pants dry while waiting.

Only the remix of the "Maniac Mansion"-theme at the end of the trailer is actual ingame-music.  :-\
Why not actually use this? To me, it really fits into the game's atmosphere.

This tune is nice, but it's really an overused free-domain tune. I believe it's actually used in toonstruck, for example.
And Maniac Mansion deserves kick-ass, original tunes! (considering how many musicians athere ar ein the forums, I'd recommand posting your MIDI in the Critics Lounge I'm sure within hours there will be plenty of amazing new versions)

I really like the look of this game, I will admit. The trailer was done in the best way imaginable to get me interested; parodying B-movies is always great. I kind of wish the Edisons hadn't been blue, as this reflects the NES version of Maniac Mansion, but I think I understand why you went this direction. The best of luck with this!

This is something I have always pondered. ??? Why are they blue? Looking at the screenshots on MobyGames I see they changed them to blue in the enhanced version.

err, due to the meteor?

Mister L

Jepp, the NES-version had many cuts was was heavily censored, but the blue color for the edisons was first used in the enhanced version for PC, Amiga and Atari ST.
I first played MM on the C-64 but I really like the more creepy blue color now - feels a bit like "The Munsters".  ;D

We also think, that this color has something do to with all the radioactivity in the mansion or/and the presence of the Meteor. We'll keep it that way.  8)

That trailer was fantastic, I love the mansion's new look, it's so spot on between B horror movies and Chuck Jones that all that's missing is Scooby-Doo.

I am sooooooo hyped, keep up the good work! :D

Personal opinion: Maniac Mansion was a good game, but I think we already have enough re-makes, de-makes and fan-makes to last several lifetimes. I can see this project has potential but a lot of it seems wasted on makin remakes when it could be directed at creating original games.

Sorry for being so negative...
Wrongthinker and anticitizen one. Utterly untrustworthy. Pending removal to memory hole.

No problem - it's your opinion.  :)
But we have so many new and funny ideas to bring MM back to life, maybe you'll think different about it when our work is done!  8)

Another thing to consider is that if they were to release the characters as .cha files afterward (many of the sprites were borrowed from the CL or DoTT, anyway) they could be used for the maniac mansion mania series, or indeed, for a fan sequel or spin-off.  As some of the sprites used are modified versions of ones I made I'd personally like to see something like that happen and would even consider making a fan game of sorts, myself.

I assume you've already played MM, and the game was quite hardcore considering how strange some puzzles were (with very limited clues), and considering the time limit.
I think a remake could make the game much less frustrating, by clarifying or developing some stuff, like it seems they did in the trailer, and a bit the way AGDi did with the King's Quest series.

Dr. Spengler

Do you guys happen to have any Dr. Fred .gif's from the game?

Um, what for?  ???

The ingame-animations are in *.png, would be no problem zu transform them to gif - but why?  :-\

After the game is released, we also like to see something more happen with this stuff.  8)

I'm so looking forward to this game ... remake... thingy :D

This project looks fantastic, and it's something I've often dreamed of seeing or even making myself since I first played the games back in middle school.  You guys have done an outstanding job meeting the high artistic standards set by DOTT.

As far as music, since the original PC version didn't have much, might I recommend basing your score on the NES version, which, for all of its problems, had quite a bit of very nice music?

This YouTube account has a lot of it up for listening:

And some MIDIs are here, which may be useful for you or whoever ends up doing the music, as you can fiddle with them or use the notes as the basis for something more complex:

Jepp, this is alredy in the works!  ;D

Is there a projected time for this game's release?

Sorry, we can't say anything about a release date.  :-\
We've been working on the script a lot and added some nice effects - so stay tuned!  :D
