Title: Mech Gladiators - Back to work!
Post by: Dan_N on Mon 05/02/2007 21:03:33
This had to come... Twas inevitable...

Hollow Studios proudly presents:
MECH GLADIATORS

A man wakes up in a pub on Einstein 3, the only official active (although it's basically dead) space station orbiting the now desert planet of Earth. He is unwillingly thrown in an epic episode in the history of the human race...

Mech Gladiators is a mech battle/RPG/adventure game that will have the following features:
- There will be 7 mechs. 6 "public" ones, and a secret one.
- There will be about over 30 types of weapons, armour, and aparatuses that can be installed on a mech.
- Combat is turn-based, and first-person (the player looks through the eyes of his character while in the mech).
- The game is divided into two parts: an "adventure" one, where the view is 3rd person and all the puzzles, dialogue and such take place, and a "mech" one, where all the mech battles take place.
- The game'll depend a lot on story, seeing as how there will be side quests and an epic storyline involving all of Humanity, so it's just not "vaguely adventury".
- A solid manual.

These features MIGHT (and let me stress MIGHT) also be a part of MG, or maybe a deluxe version:
- A big extras folder.
- Possibly voice acting.

Full Version status:
- Story: ~50% (it's on my scribble book)
- Graphics: 0%
- Puzzles: 0%
- Scripting: 0%
- Music/Sound: 0%
- Design: ~99%

Tech Demo status:
- Story: - (there will be none, just be the best mech gladiator)
- Graphics: 0%
- Puzzles: 0%
- Scripting: 0%
- Music/Sound: 0%
- Design: 100%

Also, read these historical documents (http://www.lumpcity.co.uk/~n-games/SFHistory.rar) if you'd like to understand more about the climate in which MG will take place.

Read them?

Good, now some time placement snippets:
- MG Tech Demo takes place before the first Solar War and after the 4th World War, in the peak of Humanity.
- MG (full version) takes place after the 2nd Solar War, and before the Eon Wars (which have not yet been documented)

So you've done 0.01% of the game so far and have posted a progress report on it already? Wow!

The game sounds interesting design wise though.

Um yes.. washington appears to have a magnifying glass hovering over it.

Bit early to post in AGS games in production. But still, looks great! (Even if it does look a tad bit like 1213)

Sprites aren't done yet.
We're focusing on backgrounds.
Jdinky's awesome.
Animator needed.
I can't stop playing Golden Axe 3 and UFO.

PS: Tech Demo should be ready in about two months (hopefully).

Walkcycles and talking animations. Possibly some other animations, but they're all character based. If anyone is interested please pm.

QuoteThese are the Tech Demo's graphics, you can see I did them, 'cos they suck

You might want to edit this out of your initial post now that you've updated the graphics a bit. There's no better way to turn people off of your game than to tell them parts of it suck.

I'm really interested in this, and I'd like to see how mech combat will work, not to mention everything else.

Yes, actually it does seem like a very ambitious under taking, this project. I am really looking forward to see how it works out for you guys.....

I have quite an update too...

The project's FAQ page is here:
http://siliconfluorite.fatal.ru/mg-faq

If you feel that it's too empty, go and ask some questions, I think I've fixed most of the engine's bugs for now.

Also... Dan, how can "0%" of the graphics be finished when you can provide two screenshots?

Right, so, er...

I'll admit it, I've done bugger all in the last few weeks, mostly due to the new pc, which opened up new gaming possibilities to me, meaning, yeah, I've been playing computer games continuosly for the last three weeks.

I apologise to Dinky, Blight, FSi, and to all who were expecting this game for being a lazy bastard.

But!

I've overcome my desire to play new games, and I've gotten back to work.

The first step will be the Tech Demo, of course, it'll be ready.

I'm flying solo on this (and it's my fault) so the graphics will be decent at best, so I apologise for those now.

Since I've got no screenies, a mod please lock this thread, and after I update it, please unlock it.
