Title: "Metaphysical graffiti" - Would you play it?
Post by: BorisZ on Sat 25/09/2004 23:38:04
Here is some info of my new game called "Metaphysical graffiti".

Features:
- New kind of interaction: thinking about objects, characters or situations (there is a "brain" cursor that allows you to think about hotspot content).
- Brief history of philosophy (major metaphysical works and their authors) right there under your cursors.
- Two maps (local and world), available almost anywhere in the game.
- Communicating with main character itself!
- Taking notes and using them as inventory items.
- Character Mortimer Morgan from "Coup de cup", MAGS winner, by kind permission of JAZ.
- 800 x 600 Hi- res, Low contrast graphics.
- Story driven plot (not without puzzles, off course)

Story:
On a world very similar to ours, Mortimer Morgan, metaphysics and ontology professor suspects that something is very wrong with his knowledge of basics of men's existence: one day, windows error message appears in his study room, making him believe that he is nothing but a character in an adventure video game…

Progress:
GUI's: 100 %
Music: 100%
Graphics and scripting: 20%

Here are (real size) screenshots:

There is one thing that bothers me: I don't know if people would be interested in learning about metaphysics, ontology or any branch of philosophy trough the game. So, what I would like to hear from you is not about quality of graphics, character or a story, the main thing I would like to know is: would it be strange and too school-like for you to play a game where you would have to read about quotes of famous philosophers, their biographies and so on….
So, the question is (as stated in title): would you play a game like this at all?

It sounds outstanding. But the style of that character doesn't seem suited to it.

What do you mean? You think that for a story like that I need realistic character?

Hahah, good response. I didn't catch that in the game info either. At first I was like, hmmm that character looks familiar. And then, dang it, he nicked it from Coup de Cup.

And then I read the game info and felt very apologetic for my initial reaction.

I would play it. I love learning about philosophy and so on. The real question is, is the high resolution really necessary? I'm sure you'd have the same effect with 640x480.

No higher res allows more detail.

I don't mean that it needs to be realistic, exactly. Just, you know, thoughtful-looking.

Yes this sounds cool - and I start to develop a real liking for your games Boris!

(ad causa Hi-Res: I am playing all games in window mode because I hate anything blocky - thus I am absolutely for the idea of making everything as Hi-Res as possible. I had to (like everyone else) put up with blocky graphics for 20 years, now I want em smooth and round whenever, whereever - just my two cens)

Hehe, "Metaphysical Grafitti"? You by any chance a Led Zeppelin fan? ;)

And yeah, I would definately play this game at any time - Sounds like an interesting and original plot, and the graphics are great. :)

Assuming the backgrounds have enough detail to warrent the higher resolution, which these don't.

The game idea itself sounds awesome though.

Yes, I would play it - I like philosophy, science and it would be fantastic to learn about it in an adventure game  :). But I am afraid that because of that resolution it won't be playable on my slow PC...  :-\

I'd definitely play this game, it looks really cool. I really hope the file size isn't that big, seeing as it's hi res.

I would want to play this game. When you have a beta test, demo, and/or the full version out send it to me at willcaleb@yahoo.com. If not send it to this website, add better screenshots, and I hope you win an award for this game. Thanks.

wpowell, you really have to stop this. All of these games you are replying to are years old and have probably since been abandoned. There is little or no chance that you will receive a reply from the game's author, let alone be a beta tester. All you are doing is digging up old threads which is against the forum rules.

Please stop.
