Title: Murder in St. Michael's Town
Post by: Warg on Sun 06/06/2004 13:19:07
Hey fellahs,

This is some of the stuff I've been working on for my game.

The story is set on a small island. The town is called St. Michael's Town,
and you start the game the morning after the local sheriff has been murdered.
The thing is, you are the sheriff.

Anyway, as fate would have it the ghost of the sheriff is missing his soul due to the circumstances of his death.
Ghost (the character) then is given the chance to reclaim his body, soul and memories (which he is also missing)
- and in the end, hopefully revenge.

As the game progresses Ghost finds out about himself and his murderer.

Most of this stuff is still preliminary, the old stuff hasn't been updated with the comments I've received in the critics lounge.

New stuff:

Ghost (will probably be transparent with different shading)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/ghost2.gif

The Tour Guide (will be transparent)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/Tour_Guide.gif

The town (no doors, will use sprites for that)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/town_centre.gif

The lighthouse (no door again)
http://www.2dadventure.com/ags/lighthouse.gif

Old Stuff:

The Beach:

Outside town:

The butcher (walking right [final])

Currently I've only really worked on the backgrounds and a bit on characters. Scripting, music etc.. Haven't been started. Some of the puzzles have been thought about. One thing with Ghost is that while in spectral form he can't pick up anything or move anything (though he can pass through locked doors with ease!).

You've got a very artistic talent for sure.  From what you've shown and your storyline, looks really interesting.
Keep us updated from time to time of your progress.
I look forwards to seeing your game in action.

Good luck,
--- Don, the Barbarian.

very nice and gray-ish.
Looks like it will be a nice game later, but i have a strange feeling when looking at your backgrounds.

I'm looking forward to this game. I love the curve-y-ness of your backgrounds, it doesn't look like anything else I've ever seen before in a game. Good luck with your game.

P.S.
Oh, but could you put the backgrounds as a link instead of showing them. It messes up the thread (widens it out).

I love where this game is headed!

It looks great so far!

The main character has a lot of ... well ... character!

The only thing I'm seeing that might be an issue is the animated butcher character doesn't look like the main character (or guide) and might not fit with the rest of the style.  Just a thought ...

The backgrounds just rock!

LoL One of the best looking backgrounds I have ever seen.Ghost looks too good to be true, but I think The butcher needs more details (like shadows).

Good luck!

Oh I want to know do you use Flash to make characters?

"i have a strange feeling when looking at your backgrounds. " - what sort of strange feeling may I ask?

"could you put the backgrounds as a link instead of showing them" - done!

"do you use Flash to make characters? " - nah, just good old pen and pencil. I then used a tracing pad to draw each frame. Probably not the easiest way to do it.

Well, from what I'm seeing the Butcher character isn't getting a great reception. There is a post here if anyone wants to add suggestions - http://www.agsforums.com/yabb/index.php?topic=14334.0

Cheers

A shot of the butcher walking towards the screen---

I've come to the realisation that I'm probably not gonna finish the game (being realistic) because: I'll be doing fulltime study this semester to graduate at the end of the year, then I want to go and join the police force which will be 8 months of training. SO if there is anyone out there who wants to help with this game (mainly programming, music needed too), send me an email or pm me.

Basically I can do the backgrounds and most of the sprites, but I need to learn how to program in AGS which is gonna take too long (yeah I know its not hard to use).

So give me a buzz if your interested (some example of your work necessary)

I have to say... everything looks GREAT!

The character also works splendid with the background beacause he is just  a bit simlified then the backgrounds (which makes him more in focus).

:D Finish the game >:(!!!

The door seems like it should be a little taller...?

Looks cool though.

The bartender looks... sexy. ;D

Though personally I found him looks more like a butcher than a bartender, but I think that's intentional.

Is patron 2 meant to look slighlty camp? The way his hook is resting on his hand makes him look like he wouldn't mind a bit of fun with his first mate ;D

Love the characters! (nice blue cup on the bartender's shirt/apron)

I particularly like the fish-eye lense appearance on the Pitt BG.Ã,  And the lighting/shadows are spot on!Ã,  Ace.

Have you tried a character walking in that background yet?Ã,  Does the character's appearance change as he approaches the edges?Ã,  I'm just curious how it looks ;)

Of course, given that the main character is dead, the fish-eye lense is perfect for giving it a 'nether world' feeling.

Bang up job man!

Probably not, but you never know...

Can this be done using AGS or do you need to make new sprites?

And thanks for the support mate
