Title: Nanobots
Post by: The Ivy on Fri 04/01/2008 23:26:39
Nanobots

Scripting by Vince Twelve
Music by The Scorposer
Design, art, and writing by The Ivy

Groovy Greg, a fresh-faced robotics student, set out to make robots that could love. He designed six nanobots, each with one special skill that made it different from the others. His hard work and idealism paid off. Soon Hotbot, Tallbot, Brainbot, Audbot, Strongbot, and Chembot were ready to take on the world. Although they were completely useless on their own, if they worked together they could accomplish anything.

There was just one problem. The Nanobots hated each other.

Everything changes when a jealous professor attempts to sabotage Groovy Greg's work.

Can the Nanobots avoid coming face-to-fist with Professor Killfun? Only if they give peace a chance.

Thwart a sketchy professor.

Control all six bots for their special abilities.

Solve brightly-coloured puzzles.

ETA: June 27.

Edit: Looks like we've filled our quota for beta testers. Now the fun part begins.

It looks and sounds great.  ;D
The poncho, although a bit small, is a work of beauty.

The images won't load but no doubt this game will be great. What else can we expect from The Ivy?  :)

I love the human sprites! And the little bots are cute!

Aww, these comments make me smile. :)

Crazy: Glad you recognized it as a poncho. Not everyone gets that he's not just wearing a weird (and admittedly small) shirt.

Indie Boy: Haha, I'm glad you think it has potential. Hey, if this writer's strike carries on, you never know. ;)

vertigoaddict, Radiant, Buckethead, Dualnames, and ManicMatt: Merci! You've definitely motivated me to keep working.

Thanks again everyone!

I dig the little robots. Very cute. Personally, I was hoping that poncho was some sort of futuristic shirt, so of like Zap Brannigan's uncomfortably short skirt on Futurama. Also like the Robotech pennant. Loved that show as a kid.

Looking forward to this one.

Wondering are the nanobots supposed to have unique skills so youhave to think how to use them to solve puzzles? Or I am wrong?

"Strongbot" is pretty self-explaintory.

Oooo! I remember reading about Nanobots some time ago here. A great ida, and I have all faith that it will be well done! Sounds a bit like an advanced take on Gobliiins, and that's high praise! Best of luck!

I thought it was a bib, but then I don't expect students to be able to manage simple things like putting loud, sweary, gum-flapping mouths without making a considerable mess.

As for the game itself, it does look quite swish, with cute characters.  The interface dealie also sounds interesting.  'Tis one of the rare games I'd actually consider playing.

It probably would make for a good TV show, too.

Ooh, I completely missed this topic the last couple of times I've visited the forum ...

Glad to see you're going public!  The new screenshots look very enticing, the GUI looks nice, simple and colourful, and the 'bots themselves look as adorable as ever.

Can't wait!  ;)

Very interesting concept. :)
Out of curiosity, what's the Chembot special ability?

I'd bet it's chemistry so maybe using those beakers shown in the picture?

Random trivia note: "chem" is Egyptian for "black". Surprisingly, chembot is actually pink :)

So supposedly chembot makes black paint. Or causes explosions that blacken things.

Haha. There may be some of this in the game.  ;)

Whoa, thanks everyone for your kind words! :) It's encouraging to hear from so many of you. Technically, I've been working on this since November 2006, so it's nice to visualize the game actually getting done. The entire process has been both rewarding and nerve-wracking. Has anyone else noticed that game design involves a lot of staring at the screen and crossing your fingers?

I'm hesistant to say any more about the gameplay or the characters; you might just have to wait and see. ;) Although...Radiant, you have quite uncannily guessed that I like to use explosions whenever possible.

Didn't notice the obsession of explosions.. i have the same things for killings.

It can become habitual.

Right now I'm crossing fingers, eager to see all them explosions!
Hm. Since they are *nanobots*, though, they can not actually do really BIG explosions...

Really love the idea and the graphics! And since I am a nanotech PhD student, I of course have to give you my special thumbs up for making a game about nano. Keep it going!

Hey guys, thanks for your patience. It looks like we're not going to have the game done in time for Valentine's Day, but it shouldn't be long after that. Beta testing is in high gear and the game is moving forwards every day. Lots of little details are getting added in the sound effects and art, and the testers are letting me know where I should put in some in-game hints. I'm not going to set a new release date, but just keep an eye out. :)

BTW: Thanks fovmester! That's pretty cool that you're in nanotech. I hope you don't mind my inaccuracies. ;)

Wow, pretty soon I'll be able to call you Doc ;)

And I love the idea of having 6 controllable characters all at once. Should make for some inspired puzzles.

Hey everybody, just letting you know your patience is about to be rewarded. ;)

We're about to dive into our last round of beta testing, and Vince has informed me that we should be able to release the game by the end of the month. For your enjoyability, we added a tutorial at the beginning, a bunch of music and sound effects, and some bonus stuff at the end. Woo! Nanobots!
