Title: NES Quest
Post by: Mr.T on Sun 02/03/2008 19:55:57
Hi, to get familiar with the great AGS my friend Yolt and I decided to make
a short adventure game before going deeper for a long one. Please excuse
my English if there are any mistakes in the description.

NES Quest
        a kcd production..

Story: The hero lent his NES to his cousins, unfortunately for him they
brought it back ruined. In a great desperation, he decide to fix it no matter
what it takes, and his journey begins.

Snapshots:

Beta release for testers:
-During the week of 24 March, I'll pm you with the link of the beta.

Official Release:
-We decided to report the final release for April (so we don't rush too much)

Production Diary:
·Sunday, March 30th 2008
-Fixed everything testers told us, we are waiting for the last feedback form to check one
last time and release the game.

·Thursday, March 27th 2008
-Well TwinMoon warned us he would give us work when he'll finished the beta,
and he was right haha  ;D Thank you! Starting to fix what you pointed out to us right now.

·Wednesday, March 26th 2008
-Mini game done

·Tuesday, March 25th 2008
-Beta testing launched  :)
Scripting mini game (load of reading.. seemed easy at first haha)

·Monday, March 24th 2008
-Beta is almost ready, checking few things with Yolt before sending to beta testers.
We decided not to implement 2 things, so beta testers will still have something to
discover in the last release.  ;)

Looks like good fun. One question: In which year is the game set? The guy plays the NES and has a Run-D.M.C. poster on his wall, yet the piggy bank has a euro symbol on it? Maybe he's just a nostalgia freak like the rest of us.

Nice idea for a game, and the graphics are very good.  I look forward to playing.

This is exactly what we were thinking, and since it's based on a true story (lol.. my cousins ruined
my NES unfortunately...) we though it would be fun. We still have our NES. (and I'm proud to own
a Maniac Mansion cartridge haha)

I hope you'll like it. More snapshots coming this week.

Holy Cow! lol I didn't knew that crew, nice chip tune :P
I planned to digg out my old mod/xm and see if I have already some tracks for the game,
I found for the intro, and the hero's house. Since Fast Tracker doesn't work anymore on XP
I found this clone: Skale Tracker and Milky Tracker, I'll try them to see if it does the job :)
(skale tracker seemed to work great..)

If any of you guys knows a great clone of FT2 working under XP I would be glad to know.

Thanks again for your feedback I really appreciate ;)

Pablo: We could try another font, we didn't got into looking for a new one, but I have to
admit I like this one. Or maybe finding a more NES like, I found nice links there:

fasttracker!  that's a program i havn't heard mentioned in a long time.  does it ont run under dosbox?  my friend and i used to make simple electronic music under the name STOP! GObot, we have loads of choons and would be happy to let you use anything you want for yr game.  our myspace is http://www.myspace.com/stopgobot  if you like what you hear let me know, we can upload our back-catalogue somewhere for you.

p.s.  the graphics look great, good luck with the project.

Title: Re: NES Quest
Post by: Mr.T on Mon 03/03/2008 16:02:13
Robotsquid: Hey thank you very much for the offer, we really appreciate :)
However I already started putting some music and since it's a small game
it won't be a problem. I hope you'll like my chiptunes tho ;)

I finally ended with Milky Tracker, amazing how close it works like Fast Tracker II,
it fully supports all effects from what I tested. ( Skale Tracker couldn't )

I did a fast theme it works great.

Cyrus: Hey mate even if it will be short I really hope you'll like it, we decided with
Yolt to go for a short one, since many times big projects got aborted because of
too ambitious story/graphics/etc.. (I have been there with a mod for half life which
got aborted and it's really a shame... :( )

Thank you all for your feedback!

Cyrus: we couldn't resist and yes there is few references but I won't tell much
to not spoil it ;D

NikosX: Hey mate when the beta will be ready I will PM you for testing ;)

We believe with Yolt the beta will be ready on the end of the next week
if everything go as it should, I hope it will ;D

I added on more snapshot, it's the map of the game :)

Thanks a lot for your kind words, we really appreciate!

We are a little bit behind schedule.. (well I mean.. I am cause
Yolt finished his job  :P ) I had few things to deal with but I
believe on the end of the week we're going to need few
beta testers to help us spot mistakes/bug and find a way
to make the game better :)

We wanted to post more snapshots of the game but we don't
want to spoil it too much  :=

See you soon  ;D

We wanted to request beta testers once the beta would be ready not
to make things too much in a hurry. Well, it's not a problem tho things
will go faster I presume  ;)

Dualnames you're in too, link of the beta with the form will be sent via MP
once it's ready on next week  ;)

Yeah sorry for the paperwork  ;D
(or... you can hire someone to do it for you... talking about the taxreturn  :D )
haha

I believe the form will help us getting a better understanding of the player's point of view,
what wasn't successful, funny, dialog etc... And it will help us changing the game a little
bit to make it better before the final release. We want to make a short game with Yolt,
but understanding what we did wrong etc.. will give us the opportunity to not make the
same mistake on our next one  ;) (that's why beta testers are important  := )

Thanks again for your feedback  ;)

Hi, the beta will be ready on the next week so we need
2 more beta testers to help us fixing bug/issues making
a better release  :D  ;)

If possible we would like to release the game end of this
month (March), so it would be great to be able for you to
test it and fill the form provided with it before the 29th.
(to gives us time for changes)

It will normally be an easy task since the game won't be
long and too much difficult, if you think you can help us
don't hesitate.

Thank you  ;)

Hey Zufub, I'm new here too so it won't be a problem  ;D
The only thing we need from beta testers is to fill the feedback form
provided with the beta of the game to spot bugs and have opinion
on few things.

If you think you have time for this we would be happy to send you
the beta  ;)

I have a question and I don't really know where to ask it so I write it here,
who did the Lec Summ 1.5 template? Because I used this template and then
modified few things but it saved me load of time so I would like to credit
the person who wrote it.

Thank you, the beta is ready so I believe tomorrow night beta testers will

Hey I was thinking about this game while I was at work today.  I would love it (not in this game, maybe in the sequel.. since you're nearly ready to release the game), if you had a few 'real life' Nintendo game-like puzzles.  Like in the Seinfield episode where George was pushing the Frogger game across the busy road, and the camera was looking down at George in birds-eye view as if he were playing a Frogger game himself.  I loved that part.

Twin Moon: Thank you very much, I'll credit Zor since it really helped me getting started  ;)

Ryan Timothy: We were thinking with Yolt about something similar, but since we didn't want
to push the difficulty too much, we ended with something not affecting the story of the game.
It will only be like a bonus  ;)  (saw I can script it while beta testers are checking the game
and the adding it in the end since it won't be something important) It's our first game and
we were affraid to go too big and not finish it. We hope you'll find the game amusing tho  ;)

Zufub: Don't worry, you have until end of March to test and fill the feedback form, even if it
takes a little more time we'll PM you to ask where you at  ;)

Beta is ready, Yolt is testing it one last time (maybe I forget something  := ) when I have his
OK for it I'll PM beta testers with the direct link to the beta  :D

Thank you

Hello everyone!

Tired of looking from afar the discussions i finally decided to login the AGS forum.
First of all, thank you for your interest in the game and your comments, it helped us finish the game quick and gave us the motivation to make it better.
And that s it! Finally the game is at the beta testing state and will soon be ready for download.
Big up to my friend Mr.T, hope we'll make more of these  ;)

Zufub, no problem, I hope you'll fix your important things going on, it's more important
than testing a game  ;)

Thank you.

Nice game. I may be a beta-tester. But I will be only reporting bugs, where they are etc. You may don't trust me, becaouse I'm new here. I will understand it, but if you don't find anyone you may invite me :P
