Hello I just signed up at these fora.
Little introduction about me, and my upcoming game.
I had started creating an adventure game some moons ago, but that was unfortunatly lost in devious harddisk crash. Oh well it was my first attempt with AGS, so it pretty much s*cked anyway. So no hard feelings about that.

With my neverending need to artistically express myself, I just have to make games somehow :) I once started out with making story driven rpg-like levels for Age of Empires I and II.Ã,  Which I never really released. (Glad I didn't, I was young and unexperienced, thus they sucked ;))
I started making single player levels for the Game Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith and Jedi Knight: Dark Forces II a couple years ago and released a total of 7 sp levels, all of which received good reviews.
With the release of the sequal to that game: Jedi Outcast, I started editing that, but the quake III engine just wasn't my thing. It was then I tried out AGS and started my first point & click adventure game, which I already admitted sucked and was lost. But school (and rpg games :)) took away my free time and I stopped editing.

I was deciding which game I would edit next: Far Cry? Doom III? Half-Life 2?
Last two games keep getting postponed, so I can't judge those yet, but the Far Cry engine looks promising and its editor too. But then I started beta testing a sidescrolling platform game an internet buddy of mine was making. (he should be releasing a demo soon at www.elmoo.com ) A funny game, which made me realise how entertaining simple graphics could be, so I turned back to AGS with full intent to finally make that point & click adventure game!

Here's what we got so far:

Vedder's Wacky Adventures!

In the game you'll play the character vedder, who doesn't really represent me, but what the heck. At the start of the game he notices he's dead and on his way to ascend to heaven. Through flashbacks we'll find out just what had happened that he got there, but parts will also play in the afterlife. It's going to be totally absurd and surrealistic, generally it'll make no sense at all. :) I hope to put a good amount of humour in it.
I made a littel promotial art; it's not an actual ingame screenshot, but it is made of art that I made and will be used ingame:

The game will be 800x600 with 32 bit colours.

Update, first screenshot I'm releasing, showing off mainly the graphics style and the funky coloured hud.

This looks promising...

His speech bubble looks messy though...

vedder

I won't be using the speech bubble, it was for the promotial art only.

As you can see I'm keeping the graphics very simple and more 'flash'-like.
I want to focus more on the humor and the wacky storyline.

On a related note, I found an musician who allowed me to use his music in my game. So with that aspect I'm set :)

Chicky

hey, looks promising, i like the art style, nice and simple. would your character be influenced by discworld noir by any chance?

vedder

Unfortunately I haven't played any of the discworld games yet, nor read any of Pratchett's novels (Wait I did start in one like 10 years ago, forgot what it was called and back then I didn't like it, but I think I'll like it now. It was a Dutch translation anyway *herecy* ;)). It can't be directly influenced, but I was just going for a darkish character somewhat of a cross between a matrix personage and a detective. So I decided to go with a long black coat, dark sunglasses and a bit of a 30s gentleman's hat.

Wormmaster

Sounds good.  ;)
And looks good.  ;)
