Title: Project-X (Updated June 22)
Post by: pixelcat on Sun 20/06/2004 17:25:13
Title : Project-X (Temporary)

My art and ideas are finally to a point where I feel confident in finishing something, so I started production on a game i've worked on for quite some time.Ã,  It's based on the former TV show the X-Files, and will take place before season 5, for those familiar with the show.Ã,  The game will have access to all the characters and areas from that time period.

For those unfamiliar with the show, it's about two FBI agents who investigate cases of paranormal activity, known as the X-Files.

The game will follow FBI agents Mulder and Scully to a small fishing village in Maine where the locals have been witness to a possible alien abduction.Ã,  There is of course more than meets the eye, and the agents will uncover a much larger conspiracy using all the resources available to them.

The game will be similar to to FOA in terms of controls and gameplay.Ã,  You will have control over both agents, each with there own strengths and weaknesses.Ã,  For example, Agent Scully would have the ability to perform autopsies, with her background as a medical doctor.

The story outline is finished, and i've begun dialogue.Ã,  I've also layed out many puzzles to be used throughout the game.

There's a possibility of a small intro demo being completed around August.Ã,  Hopefully. :)

Some artwork :

Character portraits:

Early office background:

*Updated background... still have lighting, etc. to do.  As well as other half of office... ug. :/

If anyone has any questions or feedback, feel free to reply here or send me a message.

Excellent, The X-Files was one of my favourite series, and it sounds that the game will be very much like the series was.

Also, nice graphics.

Looks great!
Like the X-Files if made by Cinemaware.

The only thing missing from the show/movies was a nude scene with Scully ... PLEASE put one in the game ... maybe an easter egg hidden in there somwhere??Ã,  A shower scene, flashback to her abduction, something ...

I kid (sort of).

The graphics look great and I think the X-Files could make a GREAT adventure game!

Your graphics are, of course, excellent.Ã,  The office needs some work but you said 'early' so I'm assuming it's not done yet!

Keep up the good work!

If the graphics are anything to go by, looks fantastic! (They both look so evil in those portrait shots)

One suggestion - try to get all the details and any references to previous cases right :) Then it'll really feel like the X-Files.

Thanks everyone for the feedback.

Darth - We'll see. ;)

OSC - I remember that game, never got to play it, though.

Kinoko -Ã,  I agree.Ã,  The orginal portaits I drew look less "evil"... I thought they looked pretty cool with a lot of contrast, so those are the ones I posted.Ã,  BTW, I used to be partially-obsessed with the show so I have a lot of reference material to make sure it matches the plotline. ;)

----

Finally finished the main area of the office... now to spend another 2 days colouring it... ;)

*Update at the top...

Just wanted to post this to give an idea of size and detail for the backgrounds.Ã,  The game will most likely be 640x480.

Excellent!

This'll look even better in color!

Comments:
- LOVE the pencils in the ceiling.
- The feeling of 'clutter' is spot-on to Mulder's office
- details are excellent
- love the wire hangin down from the display cabinet above the file drawers

Crits:
- the lamp on the desk (right in the center) the outlines look out of place on the support poles ...
- the name plate ... the X in Fox looks like it could use 1 more pixel on the lower right leg of the x if you know what I mean?

That's it!Ã,  Keep up the great work and please post the colorized version when it's done ;)

Did you redraw the moonlanding or past it?

Thanks again for the feedback and comments.

Darth - Thanks for the crits, I fixed the x, and the f & o also.Ã,  Lamp looks better now, as well.

The Book - I don't think i'm that good, some day with more practice, hopefully.Ã,  I've gone to school for graphic and web design, so that training helps a little.

LostTraveler - The moonlanding and some assorted pictures on the boards are actual photos, not drawn.Ã,  I searched the web for famous photos like bigfoot, loch ness, etc. and pasted them in.Ã,  Ã, You can probably see them if you look closely. ;)Ã,  I might still redraw them in the future, but not for now.   The "I want to believe" poster was pretty much the only poster that was drawn.

the details on your latest bg really astonish me.. I hope you'll actually finish this project and this will not have the same fate as some of the most promising games in production around here (such as Darth's star wars adventure, this rendered pirate game...)

I cross my fingers for this project!

Looking fantastic so far,  Pixelcat, you're very talented.
I used to be an X-files fan for a while, and it looks like you've really captured a lot of the X-essence there in your art and ideas.
I look forwards to see it in action.

Best wishes,
--- Don, the Barbarian.

There is a actual X-Files game coming out soon. The Mystesque one was crap and they are now releasing a 3d Resi Evil style game.

Thanks for the comments.

Preparación De Ensalada - I forgot about it until recently, but I was really looking forward to that game.  Not getting good reviews, unfortunately.

LostTraveler - Will do. ;)

viktor - I don't even want to know how many hours, but pretty much the last three days... still working on it.  Portraits took around 6-7 hours together.  I'm slow and a perfectionist (usually). ;)

Wow those graphics are truly awesome, could we possibly persuade you reveal some of your techniques? The style of the character portraits remind me a lot of Shadow of the Comet - only better :).

Yet another project to look forward to. What happened to that Prisoner project btw, anybody know? I forget who was making that one.

Pixel,

Great looking graphics.  I hope the story is as immersive as your graphics.  Have you made the actual sprites yet?

I'll be watching this one.

Cool. You didn't even take as long as i expected.  Even if I had so musch time. I couldnt' make graphics like those even if I had a weeks time...

GarageGothic - I've got some step-by-steps here... just some examples of characters i've done.

http://img64.photobucket.com/albums/v196/pixelcat/steps.jpg

Basically, for everything usually, I draw in grays to get shadows and basic shapes correct, then colour it in later.Ã,  I find it much faster and easier to draw this way.

Blackthorne - I made a Mulder sprite... doesn't really match the background style, so i'll be redoing it.
