QUEST FOR INFAMY: So You Want To Be A Villain?

Offical Website: http://www.infamous-adventures.com

Latest Update: 12-02-04

Set in the Speilburg Valley, 20 years after the events of QFG1, you have come from the northern lands of Britannia to escape persecution for some rather unsavory things you did. Ã, After hearing of the death of the Steward of Speilburg Valley and the unrest it has caused, you travel there to set up new residence. Ã, From here, you plot your evil deeds as one of three character classes.

Brigand - Using brute force to steal, work your way into a brigand tribe, and lead them to domination of the valley.

Sorceror - using black magic, bring the Valley of Speilburg under your spell and command, and rule with a dark hand.

Assasin - using your cunning and desire for money, gain influence as a hired gun - eventually, perhaps, becoming steward of the land.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------

The game will be in the style of QFG1 VGA, and feature three different storylines for each of the classes, as well as the "basic" story that all characters follow. Ã, What this means, I suppose, is that the mini-missions and ways to procede differ from character to character, making the game's repeat playability level quite high. Ã, Earn different skills as your "infamy" level gives you more influence and power. Ã, Complete fighting and stats system included.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit:Ã,  Coming up on the one year anniversary of production for Quest For Infamy!!!!

This game is a beast for sure, and we've learned a lot about the design process along the way.Ã,  We are still in production - look for more on this title next year!

Sounds like an excellent idea, I hope you can pull it off. I checked out the page, and first of all, the backgrounds I've got to crit a bit on.

The first two are mostly amazing. Mostly, because they are 90% Sierra made, ripped from King's Quest 5 and 6. The other looks like a bit was ripped too, but is also a bit original. Unfortunatley, the original stuff clashes with the fipped stuff, making for an unpretty picture.

Most of the Sierra Pictures were used to try and capture the feel I was planning for the game.  As progress has continued, we have created many works of our own art.

I want to help, but what do you need help with? Also, I think you should make original backgrounds. Have you desinged any charachters yet?

Blackthorne

Dude Man,

Yeah, original backgrounds will be made - I have character design working right now, but if you're interested in working on the project, email me at alexansg@yahoo.com.  I'll tell you more about what you can do, and the characters and such.  If you would like to Graphically Design some of the characters we are working on, that would be great - as well if you would like to design a background.  We have the screens we need plotted out, so I can just send you the information.  Write me.

Well I've really starting digging QfG this past year, it was all new to me, so a spin-off like this is exciting. Hopefully it'll be more than just a parody kind of thing and a really fun game in its own right though. It sounds ambitious but of course it's possible, if Tierra can manage something as staggeringly big and professional as KQ2VGA+.

I wanted to offer my help, but I can't really commit to doing backgrounds of that kind of standard. But if you wanted original MIDI music for this game I'd love to be involved in that in some way. I think I could manage some QfG-style tunes, perhaps with a more evil, dark feel like the game concept seems to be.

BerserkerTails

I present to you... My 10 minute attempt at recreating the Sierra-style sprite. the only thing ripped from an actually Sierra game is the head, but I changed the hair on that too.

My take on the Quest for Infamy villain...
I make music.

Dude Man

This is my attempt. I didn't put much detail in, it's pretty rushed but I think you get the idea of what I was going for. I went for the "darker" look. I think without the detail it still looks pretty good. You'll probably all disagree though...

Klytos

Hey all, I'm the other guy doing the ground-breaking  ;D work on QFI with Blackthorne.

Dude Man and BerserkerTails, I like both your sprites.

Dude Man, what you've designed is exactlly what I had imagined the character to look like, almost Vampire-Like in appearance. Any chance you could redo the sprite with added detail. Blackthorne may have some other comments, I just loved the look of it.

Blackthorne

Dude,
Yeah, we are going for a darker look for our character, and that design is heading in the right direction.  Berserker, yours is good too - developing this guy to portray that sense of cunning, deviousness, and power is a tricky thing to do.

Nice work.

Oh and really, Klitos is the one doing all the AGS and Engine work.  The games technical design is all his... so I think he's the groundbreaking one.  I'm just the idea guy!

Gonzo,

MIDI music would be great!  Feel free to send some samples to ALEXANSG@yahoo.com.  That would be most excellent if you wished to compose some themes.  I'm thinking sweeping marchs in minor keys..... and other darting themes.

Sounds great...I'll try to compose a few new tunes over the week or so, and look through my MIDI backlog for appropriately QfG-style pieces (probably not that many). Then I'll e-mail them on over to you and you can decide whether you'd like to 'recruit' me. :)

BerserkerTails

Dude man, nice sprite! That looks alot cooler, and more of a fun character to play!

I wasn't really trying to come up with a character design, I was trying to emulate the look of Sierra's old sprites, which I think you should do with the new design!
I make music.

Dude Man

Thanks all, I'm currently working on improvments...

Dude Man

I've made this fake screenshot using the updated Villain. He probably still needs work and I still need to do other views of him but I think he looks better, and now you can see him in context.

Gonzo

It's a cool sprite, in my humble opinion it could be improved a little though.

He seems to fit into the background quite well, but I wouldn't necessarily assume he was evil if I didn't know he was supposed to be. The dark clothing is a start, but I think maybe his face needs to have more shades of detail, or maybe just generally darker skin tone. A beard might be an improvement but it'd be hard to do clearly at the resolution really.

Finally, I think the fact his clothes are so black might make animation hard or unclear to the player, I think there need to be more colours to him, but still the darker hues, nothing too colourful.

Also - his right leg looks a bit odd at the moment, if he's standing still. They're also a bit thin.

Sorry that sounds so critical, just some thoughts - good work so far though!

Dude Man

Yeah I know. I'm gonna totally redo him - that was done in MS Paint, I just got the GIMP so I'll redo him in that. I just wanted to see if people thought he fit into the background or not.

Blackthorne

Dude,

Yeah - the design and idea is good.  I can see where you are going with it.  Work on him a little more, and make him a little more "Sierra"-ish and keep working.  Nice job.

Uh, yeah - that was established in an earlier post.  Using some screenshots from other Sierra Games of the Period, with modifications, is something we're using right now.  They may just be place holder graphics till we are able to design ones of our own that match the quality of the game.

Hey everybody, I'm one of the head writers on the team and I thought I'd do the obligatory bump and let everyone know what's going on in our game:

Klitos is constantly releasing internal "demos" for the team that consists of the 3-5 introduction sequence as well as part of the Assassin quest.  Just added to the recent one: BerserkerTail's sprites for many of the characters' old and new characters you meet in the first few minutes of the game.  Who's there?  Well, there's Rayford, the law man, who can't go 5 minutes without talking about the law.  Then, there's Lurg, the nerdy, abused husband of everyone's favorite centaur: Hildegaarde.  Who else?  Well, you'll just have to wait and see.

It's so great to see placeholders drop away and completed works, like the sprites, fall into place.

The game engine is nearing completion.  The fighting engine, complete with keyboard control, is really starting to work well, and the stats system is fantastic.  Finally, the new GUI combines the best of the past QFG guis to streamline everything.

KQArtist has joined the team and is helping out on the backgrounds that are starting to look wonderful.  Vamp3D is currently working on portraits for dialogue and Blackthorne and I are about 30-40% done with the Assassin script (the characters are really starting to come alive).  BerserkerTails keeps pumping out sprites and animations... I swear, he doesn't sleep!

We have a long way to go towards completing the game (there are 3 plotlines after all), but we hope to release a demo to the public in the next month or two, but until then, please visit our Forums: http://pub62.ezboard.com/bego97145 to drop us a question or if you want to help out.

If anyone else from the team can think of something I missed to mention here, drop a line.

adanzis

Hi everybody, sorry, meant to post this before...

We're also looking for a WEB-DESIGNER to update our web-site.  I already have a number of materials ready for posting, we just need someone who can update like once a week or so (at most twice) with screenshots and news on how the game is progressing.  We're a small team and we're all so busy doing our own individual jobs (whether it's writing or programming or animating) that we don't have time to keep up with our web presence, other than the forums.

So if you're interested, e-mail me at adanzis@loyola.edu (that's my spam address); I'll give you the real one when you e-mail me.

We're not looking for anything too flashy or technologically crazy... we just need someone dedicated who can do the work.

Thanks!

Suggestion: Turn off required login. I can't even enter the messageboards to read, and for some reason EZBoard won't allow me to set up an account just yet. I'll try again later.

adanzis

sorrry, we have screenshots and the demo locked so only teammembers can access it

feel free to drop us a question in the first three forums, however...

Kyle

I wasn't able to get anything to work, but apparently it was because of some weird security setting on my browser. I set it to default and I was able to reach it, finally.

BerserkerTails

Here we go. Our team decided to allow a bit of what we've been working on trickle through to everyone, and hopefully gain a bit more interest in the game.

Therefore, I present to you, the new town of Spielburg... Well, one half of it.

Note: The Sierra original is on top, our new one is the bottom. Also, the colours a dithered in a few place due to the conversion, This is not the case in the actual game.

We're still working on those screens; believe me, we have a few in the works.  We want to show these edits because they are going to be in the demo, and people know Quest For Glory so we thought it'd be fun to show them a comparison.... how we age and change Speilburg a bit after twenty years...

Soon we'll have some original artwork up, I promise.  Hopefully they will be just a nice as the work we've had done up until now.  I promise, however, that this game is rolling along nicely and it will be a great AGS made game to play.  Hell, I'm writing the game, and I can't wait to play it.

I just realised that I hadn't commented on this game yet, even though I saw it when It was first posted.

It seems like a great idea, I always like the idea of being the bad guy. I like the touchups on the G4Gvga backgrounds so far, and It seems like you've got a pretty good all round team going there.

just an observation on the screens you've joined, the one between the town entrance and the old ladies house, the angles of the buildings are a bit odd, but I guess it's hard to fix without redrawing both screens, It doesn't look bad & maybe it could just be spielbergs architecture, but it still looks great.

I look forward to seeing the outcome, I also noticed that you've got quite a following over at AGDI.

Good luck

~Tim

adam100

Your game looks great so far.The backgrounds are cool even if edited but i think you should work on the "brigands ambush\the tree fairy" edit.Overall it's nice but the rocks on the bottom part look a bit like if they were cut...

BerserkerTails

Adam: The bottom screen is still in works, and hasn't been touched up yet. Also, there is alot of screens in one image, therefore alot of GIF compression errors. Rest assured, everything will be perfect by the time the public gets a hold of it. Thank you for the complements!

Timosity: Thanks alot! I so glad alot of people are getting interested in the progress of this game. We've accomplished ALOT over the past 3 and a half months we've been working on the thing, alot of things no one's even seen yet. I can't wait for the website to be unveiled, it's looking excellent so far. And hopefully we'll have a teaser demo out within the month.

Blackthorne

Hello folks,

Time for a QFI/Infamous Adventures update.

Progress continues on QFI, which is turning out to be a pretty large game, and we're enjoying it.  Expanding the Spielburg Valley has been fun, and designing the new port town to the south, Volksville, has been an adventure in it's self.  Creating new artwork for it has been challenging, especially due to the loss of our main Artist, KQArtist.  So it's been up to me, and I've tried to improve my skills as a background artist, and I came up with these concept BKGS that hopefully with a little more work, will end up in QFI.

Now that said, the script work is drawing to a close on the first character, the assasin.  Work on the Brigand and Sorceror are about to begin.

POSTIONS NEEDED:  We lost our main background artist, so if you're interested in making Sierra-Like 320x200 Backgrounds, and working with a fun (and sometimes rowdy) team, visit Infamous Adventures at www.infamous.iconrate.net also check out our forums at www.infamous.iconrate.net/forums OR send an email to me, Blackthorne, at ALEXANSG@yahoo.com .  We're fun bunch, but also very serious about this game.  The game will be completed and hopefully, it'll be fun to play.  Drop us a line.

Our combat engine is a mix of Final Fantasy and Betrayl at Krondor engines. The game is starting to become a true RPG, though there are still plenty of adventure elements  ;)

What this means for battles? Expect battles where you fight multiple enemies at the same time. There might also be some battles in which "friends" help you out. It'll be unique and different from QFG, but hopefully a great system that many people will enjoy.

We should have a demo soon of the game in the coming weeks; we're beta-testing the demo now. (If anyone who would like to do a qualified beta-test, PM me.Ã,  Serious inquires only, because if you just want to play it, you might just want to wait for the finished demo.Ã,  We're working out bugs and such!)

We have decided to use digital music in the game, and it sounds really great in my opinion.Ã,  We have SoupAngel to thank for that.Ã,  He's very talented.

Any other questions, feel free to visit our webpage and forums.

ALSO:  We're using photos of people to help create dialogue pics for the game; if you would be interested in having a role in the game, PM me.  We'd need a headshot pic and such.  There's more info on our website.

AND a little animated gif preview of one of the backgrounds

and here's a test animated gif for the Portraits.  This is only a test; the actual game animation will (hopefully!) be better!

Yes, Quest For Infamy is still in production, folks.  Progress has been slower lately, but 2005 is this games year.  Most of the work on the game has been behind the scenes - in developing the combat engine, and working on the script and layout of new areas.

It's been a year since the game went into production, and I feel we've made leaps and bounds since then.

L Mary-achee

0-Jamz, I'm not trying to disrespect the man. I was just having a slight fun with him. I figured right off he would make the connexion between L Mary-achee and El Mariachi. Besides, who hasn't heard of the Notorious El Mariachi spreading disorder on Adventure Game Forums everywhere(well, besides 90% of the Adventure Game Community)... That's besides the point though.
Darth, I wasn't trying to dis you, but that's just how I am, I get even crazier if I jump into one of my crazy personas... No offense menat, man...

Cain - I'm glad you had some fun at my expense.Ã,  I didn't really take offense (thus the use of the wink smiley).Ã,  Besides, I don't have to take offense ... I can just delete the post ;)

However, from this point on all off-topic posts will be deleted without warning or comment.

Since Blackthorne has updated the thread, you may now openly comment on the game if you'd like.Ã,  You can even call it "bon-diggity yo!!!1111111" if you so desire.Ã,  But please refrain from any more fun at other's expenses.

Thanks

I'm humbled and reprimanded by your civility, you reverse-psychological sith lord. If only this one submarine loving mod I know on other forums would take a page out of your book...

Well, since the thread is up again, I might as well say that I'm happy to hear you guys are still working on this. I wanna play this game, dammit! ^_^

Well swing by Infamous Adventures. We've got a taste of a new weapon system in a small crossbow demo on our downloads page.

Whoa! Ã, I forgot about THAT old thing! Ã, That was just a funny demo I whipped up to practice something that MAY happen in the game!

Kinoko, if you want to play an early demo, PM me. Ã, I think we've got something for you to try out.

Hehe, that's fine. I make it a rule not to play demos. I prefer getting the full experience of playing the completed game ^_^ I can wait.

Steve, that little demo provided me hours of entertainment. Well actually about 45 seconds until I beat it, but it's still amusing. I still go and kill the pansie in the blue suit occcasionally
