Title: [RELEASED] Quasar, or why too much time in space is bad for you
Post by: Radiant on Wed 27/07/2011 16:19:38
(http://crystalshard.net/img/quasar2.png)
Quasar
Spending too much time on a spaceship can make anybody edgy. Can the crew of the Quasar nevertheless learn to cooperate?

A high-resolution adventure game in six rooms, the main point of the game is to explore the possibilities of having multiple characters. You can switch between four of the crew members that each have their own skill set, and their own reactions to hotspots and to other characters.
Well, you can't switch characters at the beginning, because the characters are angry at one another and you need to figure out how to make them not angry any more. Once you've done that, you can switch. The puzzles in here shouldn't be too hard, it's mostly about exploring the different reactions.

Beta version (http://shutupload.com/dl/de204a4d02c3). This is intended as the final beta, fingers crossed. The game is fully playable. Feedback, suggestions, and bug reports welcome.

Also, we're looking for voice actors as well as translators for the game; feel free to apply in this thread here.

Art by Elissa Ng; portraits by Joel Philip Page; music by Petros Tsoulkas; and script by yours truly.

This looks really amazing.  I like that it involves playing multiple characters with multiple effects on hotspots.  It's good to see developers here really pushing the genre  :=

The art style looks great, playing multiple characters always ups the experience, short but sweet is always welcome in anyones time frame, sounds like a homerun.

And anything involving space gets me every time, I'm in.

Amazing, Radiant. This is absolutely great.

Are there try-outs for character portraits? I'm not too good with colors, but I am interested!

In any case, I'm looking forward to the final product :)

Thank you! Well, that's easy enough, just pick your favorite character and make a sketch, and PM it to me for a try-out.

I'd like to offer my voice acting services. I'm an American male with a pretty wide range. I've done roles from badass to drunk and am completely dedicated to any role I take. For example, for a part in Grundislav's upcoming game (hmm I wonder which one huh maybe that one about the guy with the green pants), I stuck my head under a cold shower in order to prepare for a line where my character was cold, and another one where I ran around in circles to sound out of breath. I also hold the international record for fastest turnaround time for dialog after I recorded 820 lines for Igor Hardy the same day he gave me the script.

I'll play the demo and send you an audition for one of the character. The game looks kickass.

Well,

This DOES look amazing indeed! Well done Radiant and team. You continue to be an never stopping machine of adventure game creation!

I also just need to say hello to my fellow Greek citizen Petros! :) It's just a coincidence that you keep bumping to Greek composers? ;D

I played the beta and like the characters and the premise so far. However, I seem to have found a small bug :
Spoiler
After I fixed the recording device and gave it to the owner, I asked her to help out and, as her, went to the bridge. In there, I got stuck when I talked to the captain, because none of the dialogue options ended the conversation.

Hello, Petros.
Always nice to see a fellow Greek.

The story sounds interesting and I like the graphics you posted!
You made me curious, so I will watch out for this game to come  ;)

Good luck!

Well spotted, I'll have this fixed for the next release. Incidentally, you don't actually need to do this to complete the game.

The "change resolution" menu in AGS calls this high res, yes. The default resolution is 320x200, after all.

Also, question for you folks: I've gotten several offers for voice actors, but all of them so far are male. So to get Azure, Callisto, and Julie cast as well, does anyone have a suggestion on where to find more (female) voice actors?

Well you could always use the actors you already have, just ask them to squeeze their bollocks.

I think I found a bug in the game. At some point later in the game, after you get him out of the locked room, karst disappears.

Can you reproduce this and/or send me a saved game?

You will find in the game's folder a file called "AGSsave001" (or similar) upload it and then PM it to him.

Next time please PM Radiant ;)

Hi mdm, attachments aren't supported on this forum. You can use a site like mediafire (http://www.mediafire.com/). Or, you could send it over email :=

Okay, I think he's simply standing inside (behind) the Tesla coil, and since his movement is random he is just unlikely to come out. I'll fix this for the next version.

I know the game has enough male voice actors but I will go ahead and offer my services. My regular voice is deep and I can do a number of other voices.

Thank you for your offer. Could you please pick a character you like, record three sample lines, and PM them to me? You're welcome to do audition for multiple characters if you want.

To the other voice actors so far: thank you for volunteering to help! Unfortunately we don't have enough female submissions yet to actually make a voice pack. So if you have friends or family who are willing to help, please refer them to us.

all right
I will do that.

As for females, I know someone who is interested in AGS. I sent her an email.

I just started playing the game and I think there might be a bug.

Spoiler below, select the area to read the text
QuoteIt is the same one that fred mentioned. I did not encounter that error when I played as Callisto until I talked to Azure for the second time. By "second time," I mean I clicked on Azure right after I exited the conversation. Julie had that problem when I talked to Azure for the first time.

So far, I like the music and the artwork.

I know a chick who kinda sounds like Jodie Foster if that's what you're looking for?

Hi, I'm an 18 year old female and I'd be very interested in voice acting for your game!

I have a soft Australian accent. I don't know about my range though.

I recently bought a high quality microphone and I'd love to be able to test it. I did the voiceovers for Princess Morganatic in A Woman For All Seasons but I had a terrible crappy cheap microphone then

I have tons of free time now so I can record and upload immediately. I have Audacity but I'm no good with sound editing.

Do you have any particular lines you'd like me to say? Should I save them in .ogg or .wav format? Email attachment or upload to a file hoster?

Yep, that's basically the same bug. What's happening is that the "never mind" option falls off the bottom of the dialog GUI. Thanks for noticing, will fix.

Very nice, thanks for your interest! Please pick your favorite character, find three lines you like and record them. It's easiest if you upload them somewhere and send me a PM about it. OGG format is preferred, although MP3 will also work. You're welcome to audition for multiple characters if you like.

Okay, we've received four auditions, and are still waiting for a fifth. Thanks to all who participated so far!

Post by: Radiant on Mon 29/08/2011 20:50:08
To all those who made an audition for voice acting: sorry for not getting back to you so far, but we're still short a fifth voice. With only four voices, there's little point in getting the samples recorded. I'll keep an eye out for new recruits and will keep you posted.

The good news is, we did find a portrait artist. You'll see in the next beta!
Title: Re: Quasar, or why too much time in space is bad for you
Post by: Radiant on Fri 28/10/2011 16:22:47
Just to keep you all posted - our portrait artist (Joel Philip Page) is finishing up the speech animation, and we've got some extra in-game art and numerous touch-ups. I expect this to be done within a few weeks. Once it is, I'll post a beta version here.

To all voice pack auditioners - thank you for your enthousiasm, and sorry to keep you waiting like that, but it's been rather busy and the dialogue wasn't finished in the previous beta. Once the next beta is up, we can start doing the voice pack.
