Title: Roger in grog island
Post by: Legge on Sun 13/06/2004 19:31:20
Have you played Monkey island?
Its so cool right?
How would it be if Roger was in a island named Grog Island?
Grog is the "beer" in Monkey island...

Here is a screenshot

Edit: Im sorry for the bmp...i will make it to a jpg later
Edit to Eric and OSC: Eric i like monkey island, Since i cant draw any characters yet i used Roger for now. Now for the story: Deep in the scarribean...It starts in the town of Shield(They got a flag that has a shield on it) Roger is 20 years old(i think) He was celebrating his birthday, but there was no grog left. So he took a ship and sailed to Grog Island, as he heard the nameÃ,  :)

And OSC: I have 2 games in production but i will make Grog Island first.

Edit again: Please note that i got help(like bgs and advice)by blackbird..

PS: The screenshot is just the intro screen :)

But... Why?

Is there a reason? Do you have a story? Why Roger? Why Monkey Island?

http://ron.the-underdogs.org/characters.php

Please, AT LEAST try to read the first rules, or ask blackbird, as he helped you.
And there is apsolutely NO NEED to use Roger.

It is really getting a little bit tiring all of this un controled-posting.
You know I can stil bare with that, but i dont think everyone here can.

Stay well

And of course legge, you dont have to use the EXACT char.
You can edit him, add him a beard or change his pant colors or whatnot. :P

Listen Legge, and this time remember it.
You CAN'T go around distributing half made test games.
but don't feel offended, i'm talking to you as a friend. 8)

I'll give you advice to do a Demo game:
Make a setup.
Stylize your GUI.
Make a readme.
Make that narrator a intro to the story, or put it in the readme.
Getting music in your game is not a turn off; browse through the forums, i'm sure you'll see some free music in some peoples' sigs. If you use it, give them credit.

And you really shouldn't use your sword background as is. Maybe you could add detail to it.
Thats for now.

Don't use jpg! It will kill your picture!
I use png instead.

hmmm... don't take offence to what people have said, though, yes, I would HEED their advice.

No one's out to criticize your efforts, so don't let yourself get down over what people have said (so far you've handled yourself very well. Haven't read one single "you suck bastard go suck your dick" comment yet - which a lot of people would've :D)

It would be nice though, before you release a 'demo', to make sure that it is demo quality. The term demo doesn't mean 'half-finished' or 'what I managed to scrape together in 15 minutes'. We players expect to see a PORTION of a finely-tuned, well structured game, which this clearly isn't (not to say it's crap, but it's obviously not how you want this part to completely end up).

A little more effort and I think you'll be on the tracks.

(I like the roger-from-ron idea too, btw)
