Space Quest III - The Pirates of Pestulon
The Story:
Well, we all know the story. Roger, asleep in his sleep chamber, wakes up on a garbage freighter. He has to get out of here, at least to do something! Come on, he may be a janitor, but geez. Anways, we only have a handful of screens done, but it's starting to come together.

Well, the game is crawling along slowly. Some of the artists left the team, as well as a scripter. Our website is unfinished, and things are getting frustrating from time to time. We have almost no one on our forums, and this is rather sad.
So, here's the lowdown:
We are looking for:
-Artists (background, dialogue portrait, sprite, and animator)
-Musicians
-Scripter (Must be well-versed in AGS)
-Web designer (Must be able to make an appealing website, and also someone who can design an SMF theme to match the mainsite when that's done. Also needs to be fluent in PHP and CSS.)
Anywho, feel free to stop by our forums at:
www.squadronsixentertainment.com/forums
In other news, we've decided to go with a SQ4 style Roger, along with a SQ4-esque interface, and cursors.
I know it's always nice to promote a game that you're working on but personally I find it's always best to wait til near completion or at least past the 50% point before starting to promote. I mean granted it looks quite nice but still...You're promoting a game that wont be completed for a long time if it gets completed at all.

Bunny, you make some excellent points. But I have almost no team and have to do everything myself for this project AND Dumb Quest. So I announce "hey
I'm doing a remake" in an attempt to get more team members (and also more people to post on the forums)
Also, thanks for your comment on the pics! I don't think they're that great, but hey I made them.
And then Officer Leroy was all like "I thought I told you" and Im just like "WHATEVER"

Will this slow the production of Dumb Quest I?
Not at all, the games are being made with 2 different teams.
Though, both teams are kind of short on artists. ;)

So you say this game won't slow down Dumb Quest since you have different teams for each game. But at the same time you have almost no team and have to do everything yourself!? Hmm... I don't get it. :)
The game looks nice! And I always loved SQ3. I actually have the original original boxed version in a drawer somewhere. It should be worth a lot on ebay in a couple of years. ;)
I know this isn't the CL, but I have to say something about the style anyway: SQ3 originally had EGA graphics, which meant that the artists didn't have many colours to play with. But what you have done in your screenshots is keeping the same weird colouring as the original and just adding shadows. I would instead use the fact that you now have millions of colours at your disposal and colour things more realistically. Just an idea...

I agree, it looks like you just went over some screengrabs with the smudge tool. why dont you try and go for something a bit more original, like they did when they remade SQ1?
Yeah, now that we have a background artist though, that should change really quick.

Do you honestly think that's far enough into development to start promoting your game?
I started a thread when I had
less than that :-[
Anyway, good luck with your game! I've never played any Space Quest games before, so a remake sounds nice ^_^
In my opinion I would be happy to play this remake, because I played the original before. I look forward for this game. And don't disappoint me with bugs, okay! ;)

Don't worry, we'll try not to. ;D
Updated with better screenshots.

Alliance: is it just me or does Roger look different from the rest of the image. I mean, he stands out to much. Maybe darken him a little?

Which picture?
Hey Alliance, the remake is looking very sweet, I have a good feeling about it! The only thing I dislike is the SQ5 style, I think it would be better to have SQ4 sprites, to keep a visual continuity in the series.
Good luck with the project! ;)
Well thanks, folks.
Also, our forums are feeling rather empty and dry, why not head over there and sign yourself up?

UPDATE:
Dogma Day Games has changed name to Squadron Six Entertainment.
Peder Johnsen is making our website, but we have some new forums up:
http://www.squadronsixentertainment.com/forum
I believe it's a much better name :).
I can't wait for this game to come out. ;D
Well, time for an update.
We're using a new Roger sprite (thanks, Progzmax!)
and more screens have been completed.
If you haven't already, please sign up at our forums (http://www.squadronsixentertainment.com/forum).

Well, I think the older sprites of Roger Wilco were better. Now he looks like a woman. :( :'(
Perhaps you refer to his hairdo (btw, I also have long hair but am masculine, also by appearance). Certain outstanding features are missing, so you ca't confuse his gender :-) Why not a new Roger Wilco? I like the art and also the new character. I am looking forward for this remake...

I think he's refering to the sagged boob appearance.

Roger's a
Janitor, not some buff bodybuilder. ;D
At any rate, I'm looking forward to this game being made and I have the best wishes to Alliance and his team.
I don't mind progzmax's art but that Wilco sprite is terrible. Please don't use it. He's 4 heads high for Christ's sake. He looks like a midget and his posture's terrible.
Roger's hair has always been neat and parted on the side, there's no need to change that now.
I'm glad you guys are remaking space quest 3 (actually space quest 3 is perfect, a remake of part 2 would've been ideal), but frankly I'm not a big fan of the backgrounds either. They look like paintovers of the originals with bad shading and contrast.
:( Sorry I sound like such a jerk but SQ3 is such an amazing game and I wish you guys would put in more effort to do it justice.
Everything is great, but the new sprite really IS horribly out of place. The older one was perfect, while the current looks like some manga-like twisted parody of Roger Wilco. The sprite is too wide and too short, it has completely fallen out of proportion. Furthermore, the fact that he looks like a model now(the hair, the posture, the face) doesn't match the Roger Wilco convention at all. Roger Wilco was always very formal and uptight, for he was the parody of a classical super hero. Now the whole parody thing is practically non-existent because the contrast is gone, gone I say. Oh and a little remark to progmax- you might want to make your style more flexible, using Mind's Eye graphical style for a thoroughly different game looks horribly misplaced. Actually, the Roger Wilco sprite looks like a rendition of the friendly guard you meet in the beginning.
The reasons we switched to a new Roger is:
1) Less colors to work with (good news for the animator)
2) Works better with the environment (the original backgrounds were made for a smaller Roger, anyways.
I know you all are concerned about this. Don't sweat it.
Yeah a new Roger is 100% acceptable. I think that problem that some of us are having is simply the design of the character. It doesn't fit in with ANY of the space quest games (including a remake) and could be easily fixed by redesigning him.
Small update:
Our new website is up! Also, due to lots of feedback about the Roger sprite, we're going to be changing him.
"To what?" you ask.
Well, read on.
Our new site (Squadron Six Entertainment) is going to host its first ever contest. You can read about it here (http://www.squadronsixentertainment.com/index.php?option=com_contentask=view&id=7&Itemid=2)
I still wish you'd use original graphics, instead of just paintovers of Sierra's graphics. Maybe you could pick a different style and redo each screen in the new style, like sierra did when they remade sq1? Your current method just seems like a bit of a cop out to me.

You make a good point there.
Actually, like I said in my previous post, S6E is hosting a contest for the fans to do their own designs, and then the designs are voted on by the fan community. We want to give the fans what they want.
Will there be an option to skip the arcade sequences or at least make them easier? The battles near the end gave me some real trouble.
That's a good suggestion - make them skippable at the cost of a few points. We'll take that on board.
Hey, just so you all know, the site is back up. For a while, S6E wasn't doing anything, and the site seemed to go down.
Feel free to sign up our boards, and help our community grow.
Also, the remake is NOT cancelled. It's still crawling along, although the team is now in a desperate state. Several of the members have left due to a lack of communication. However, we're determined to finish this game, even if it takes a while.
Well at least it is good to hear that the project is still being worked on. I hope you get it finished! Best of luck! ;)
Hey, major update on first post. Check it out.
Are you going to redo the music?
There are recordings out online of the original Space Quest 3 music being played with a Roland sound device and the music sounds awesome!
