Game Information

Star Trek Adventures: Year One is a freeware
point-and-click adventure game.  Actually, it is being
developed to be a series of games.  The games are
going to be released as "missions".  Each "mission"
will be based on an episode from Gene Roddenberry's
Star Trek: The Original Series television program.

The first mission that is due to be released is based
off of the episode "Arena".  All missions will have
at least one demo released so fans may get a glimpse
of the gameplay/story before the full mission is actually
released.

The Story

Star Trek Adventures: Year One is being developed as a series
of games(called Missions).  Although each Mission will have it's own
unique story line (which you can read about on the download
page), below you can find a general synopsis for all  of the Missions.

The Plot
Space, the final frontier. These are the voyages of the
Starship Enterprise. Its five year mission, to explore
strange new worlds, to seek out new life and new

using turbo-lifts and corridors. To travel to planets, the
landing party will use either the transporter or a
shuttlecraft.

The Overall Structure
This game is a point and click adventure game set in
the Star Trek TOS universe. The player will assume the
role of one of the main Star Trek TOS characters and
explore and interact with the environment in a graphical
adventure. He/she will progress through the game solving
puzzles and manipulating objects in order to complete tasks
that will solve the mysteries throughout the game. The player
will be represented in third person. He/she will be free to
move about the ship and other locations to interact with other

Will year five be a separate game?

Yeah I wasnt too clear about that sorry. The game will be divided into several mission style scenarios similar to the
way the 25th anniversary/judgement rites games were and the story will revolve around the fourth year of the five
year mission and at this time if all goes well and people like the game there will be multiple games to follow as we
are building the enterprise scenes and such up to set up as a template to be able to launch many games from
after if we wanted to. if response is good enough for more games then the rest will focus on the year five of the mission
taking it to the point they return home and kirk is promoted leading into the events prior to the first movie.

does that answer your question?

Awesome graphics= great game. I am a devoted Trekkie like yourself and enjoy the Original, the Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and so far have liked Enterprise but I never got to see the whole thing because I left for a foreign country. I also like Andromeda, Xena: The Warrior Princess, and Beastmaster so maybe make a game(s) based on those series or make a game based on Babylon 5 or Battlestar Galactica these delightful masterpieces need to be presented in a game.   :)

The Graphics many of which were borrowed from the canceled game Secret of vulcan fury by interplay and the sprites from Judgement rites also from interplay.

However our game has gone though a complete overhaul since the listing of this posting.
We are doing away with any borrowed backgrounds or sprites and creating our own new ones.

Everything in game will be completely new graphics and sprites.

We are using poser created 3d sets of the rooms for the enterprise and rendering 2d backgrounds from those
we will also be using 3d poser characters for our sprites that will be rendered into 2d.

We will feature all 23 decks of the ship and you will be able to fully explore the ship not just goto one room as needed.

The game format and story line has changed as well.

Instead of being an original story line based in the fourth year of the mission.

The story will focus on year one of the mission and will include 9 of the original season one episodes.

Many people may not like the idea of not doing an original story and using old material for the game.
But the purpose of the project is two fold.

1) To honor the series and its fans by giving them a new way to experience these adventures they have seen 100 times by allowing them for the first time to join in and live their favorite episodes.

2) To introduce new fans who may have come aboard though this new movie to how timeless the old shows are and hope they will want to go and watch them.

We are not revealing which episodes we are using but will give you a hint to one of them and to how fun the game play will be Imagine having to run around a planet from a growling overgrown lizard and build a canon to stop him.

If the sprites are ripped from the 25th anniversary game is there any chance of seeing them released to the public?

I have ripped both the sprites from judgement rites and 25th anniversary there are a few I could not find the palette for so out of several hundred sprites them may be a couple dozen at most that the colors off but all the main characters sprites are there intact. I am working on ripping the music and animations and sound effects, voice clips as well as some of the icons and interface things too. I am at the moment away from the pc that I have all that on and will be for a couple weeks acctully as my wife has it on her laptop out of town right now. But when she gets back I will finish ripping all the other things and will consider releasing them somewhere online so everyone can access them.

Original I was going to use them for this project but we decided our backgrounds that we was creating was better then the judgement rites ones and had to scrap the plans to use them but im sure others will be able to use them

Its my goal with this project that others will follow suit and do some trek games.

I will see what i can do about getting them uploaded in the next couple weeks and will post here when I do.

I think the new graphics are very fine. But to be honest now that you switched your goal from creating new Star Trek stories to just doing remakes of the TV series episodes my interest in the game dropped nearly to zero.

You could at least make a compromise and create a few all new episodes as well.

You could at least make a compromise and create a few all new episodes as well.

Well now that we have our interface and basic structure done for the game as well as inventory items and character sprites and most Enterprise rooms done the ease of being able to put together new games will be much more simple.

I have created a game template with the new graphics, sprites, items and interface.

Basicaly plug in some alien worlds and your good to go on pumping out as many Trek games as we want to do from here in a far less amount of time as it took to do just this one game.

also we have a dedicated team thats dedicated to the project on a long term basis.

and expect the team to grow by one or two more people after we get a demo done we have had some offers now but wanted to get the basics done ourselves to have it what we wanted.

With all that says there is certainly plans to create new games and different things.

The first part of the focus will be to recreate some of the more popular episodes and have some fun with that
we will be doing year two and three respectfully as well as plans to go into a year four and five based set of adventures
which will take the story line up to where the movies picked up.

I very much want to do a game based off of the Enterprise having their triumphant return to earth after the five year mission
that would be an awsome game to do one in which I have already written a story line for but what I am doing now will fit into this very well as the game will have you revisiting some of these places you went before to show the aftermath of the crews decisions along the way did kirk break the prime directive to much? was the results good or bad all the time thats my basic plan to end up the series.

we will be releasing games from year one time period that will be mixed with new games along the way that will be designed to fit into that time period "the lost adventures" so to speak

We will probably be doing games based off the show some of novels and comics and other medium as well along the way
but there will certainly be plenty of new stories as well.

I have in my mind a draft of a continuing story line which will go though all five years of the mission it will start small and grow into one very large game in the end with a concluding plot and epic story line.

we have taken extra long time and steps to insure that we design this game in such a way that creating new ones will be a breeze in comparison as we will have a good template to start with.

our hopes is to release two or three mini episodes every few months when we wrap up year one we will move to year 2 and so on also filling in new storys every few missions as well.

anyway hope you check the game out anyway and keep up with us even if you do not like the stories featuring the old episodes the game is being designed as a continuing and ongoing game which allows players to determine which missions they want to collect and play and which ones they don't so say we dont have anything you like the first batch you might like all of the next batch.

So hope you will give us a try along the way.

We also are planning to have a website with forums and such on it to allow people to discuss the direction of the game series and even vote on which episodes and such they would like to see made next.

as well as contest to have the best fan fiction story turned into a trek game.

so those who are not liking the idea of some tv show remakes stick around and check us out once we get the site up and things rolling becauseI'm sure you will find something you like along the way.

our goal was to allow the player to experience the whole five year mission in game format and have some new adventures and have some nostalgic ones as well.

Keep in mind some of the new fan base are seeing these old episodes for the first time so this is a wonderful way to share with them what the older fan base have enjoyed all these years but with new adventures planned to we hope to have something everyone can enjoy along the way.

I hope you'll always think of having fun first and completing all the episodes later. Adapting the whole series is a massive undertaking which demands sticking closely to the source material, so it can easily become a chore. Good luck with this.

By far the fun part is there all the way.

To be honest sticking to all ready existing source material may have helped this project the most.

When we already had a start, Middle and end then all we had to do was concentrate on making the game mechanics work
for this.

it has given us a formula and way of handling the rest of the games and format to use for them.

It has helped us all learn new skills and friendships and build a strong team that to me has been impressive in
what we have archived as non of us have fully finished a game ever and some of us never worked on a game.

As with any movie based game you will find some things in the game play that will have to be added in the ways of additional puzzles and such which will deviate slightly from the episode/movie in question.

This is no different with this game however I can say that I am very pleased with the outcome so far in that we have been able to take an episode and translate it into game format and preserve the original feel and content of the episode.

The puzzles we have added to increase game play are not at all so far out there or away from what you see on the show to be distracting at all they fit very well.

I will if I have not said so already mention that the first Mission will be based off the episode Arena we chose this one because it had all the elements needed for an adventure game. A good vs evil story line where you had to run around and collect objects to create a weapon to eliminate your opponent.

The episode almost screamed out Adventure game when i viewed it.

This is not to say all of the will be that easy every show was unique some comedy based and humorous , some deep thinking and  action packed and adventurous.

So it will still be a challenge to create the feel for each one of those.

So far we have laid our and designed the basic plans for

City on the edge of forever
Devil in the dark
The man trap
Balance of terror
The Galileo seven
Arena (almost complete)
Operation Annihilate
Shore Leave

These will be the first mission packs released but we will probably stop in the middle of this one and release an original story line.

In doing some of the old stuff first it will help us to get into the spirit of Trek and the characters and help us when the time comes for original stories for them to be even better because we will already have all the framework laid out all we will have to concentrate is on building a good plot and story and scripting a good game.

I have been asked by several people to share the Star Trek Judgement rights and 25th anniversary sprites that I ripped here they are if anyone wants them I am uploading them to one of those file share servers so cant say how long they will be active if you want them download them soon as I am not going to upload them all the time over and over.

Download sprites.rar from FileFactory.com (http://www.filefactory.com/file/a0bgf22/n/sprites_rar)

ill add another link later to rappidshare
http://rapidshare.com/files/283965896/sprites.rar.html

I guess im confused by the posting rules this message about the sprites wasnt supposed to be in this message it was supposed to be a seperate message but maybe your not allowed to post additional messages

I'm very impressed with the work you've undertaken and it is exactly what is missing from current adventure gaming, a link between an original series and reliving it through adventure, with the opportunity to introduce new episodes. Well done!

It all seems too good to be true, so here's the potentially disheartening question...when is the first episode estimated release date?

Anthony.

September 22nd is hardly a couple of months back, isn't it?

Since it's a Star Trek game, it can't be commercial without serious copyright violations.

I have been on vacation for a couple weeks I will update and answer all your questions and emails when I get settled back to real life here later today or tomorrow.

First off thanks for the support or interest any of you following this project has shown we wanted to have a website out and forums and some special fun stuff for everyone to check out with a project blog and such but we did not want to take away from working on the game itself so that part feel behind but about a month before release of the first mission pack you can expect to see a website launched which will have its own forums, progress blogs for upcoming missions. A chance for each of you to vote on you favorite episodes, comics, novels and such you would like to see adapted in a future mission.

as well as a chance to submit your own fan fiction or ideas for a mission pack.

Mr Matti

The game matterial is copywrite

so we can not make any money from it it will be freely distributed for anyone who wants it and is meant to honor the opriginal series and its cast crew and fans.

Also to answer question of mkennedy

Who asked if Bones will be doing his signature slogans such as "he dead Jim"

I want everyone to know everyone in this project has a love for these characters and grew up with them they are our friends and heroes as well.

I am the one doing most the scripting and dialogs and such and I will tell each of you that "Bones" is my favorite character.

In the first few mins of gameplay you will see a classic argument between spock and bones.

You will be able to play as each of the characters at various points of the game and talk to each other.

I encourage you to ask your crew for advice and such as you play the game as you will get classic responses based on the personality of each crew memeber.

Spock will give you a scientific answer bones is liable to give you a grumpy smart ass answer.

so Yes we are in tune with the characters and what they are supposed to do and say.

anthonyjmf
Thanks for the kind comments about our project it makes us know we might be doing something right or on the right track.

to answer your question in regards to release date.

That is the magic question isn't it lol.

As most people know around here to promise anything about a specific release date is not wise there are always problems to  overcome, real life and other issues to get past.

I would love if my full time job was to make video games but this is not the case.

The project only has about three people working on it at the moment.

Myself doing scripting
another doing music and sound effect and menu graphics
and another doing sprites and backgrounds.

each of us are completely new to AGS but are picking it up quicker then we thought.

each of us have worked on projects here and there but this is our first full project thats completly our own baby so to speak.

But this is what this project was supposed to be about also a way to make new friends, learn some new skills, have fun giving back to a community of fans something we enjoyed and got alot our of in our lives and most important to have fun doing it all.

With all that said I truely believe we have accomplished a lot and are well underway in creating something that will be enjoyable for all trek fans and non trek fans alike old fans and new fans.

if  I had to give an estimate I would say about 2 to 3 months without any life events getting in the way

most the time on this one is being spent getting the interface and sprites and all created which most will be able to be used though out the project.

so mission packs after this should not take as long as the initial one as we are trying to keep in mind that it is an ongoing project and trying to create an interface and set up that can be used for over and over and not have to be re-created  with every game pack.

this will provide consistency in each mission pack as well as make releases much easier and faster from here on out.

We just ask for a little patience getting the first one out to you and you should be able to enjoy updates to the game much more frequent from there.

Thanks James, the more I hear about the game the better it gets.

The website seems a great idea, since feedback from fans/gamers alike can only enhance the game, and as for possible story lines/plots from fans, that's definetly a new aprpoach that will generate allot of interest in the game.

You were saying that the game production was also based on the journey to the end, of meeting people, making friends, and sharing a united fascination and passion for the star trek world, perhaps you could create a social forum on the website which could meet up for throughout the year - depending on location - to network and dicuss same in person. Of course the AGS is not based on location of its members, it would be great to actually meet with fellow members to talk about the star trek game, whilst also getting an insight as a touris of their culture etc. when its up an running.

I wished I could take personal credit for the graphics myself but I can not.

I may not have explained or introduced the rest of my team here so I would like to take a moment and do that.
As everyone has had an equal amount of time invested in the project.

I myself am James Regalado

The project started with myself basicaly I simply wanted to make my own game never had done it
never even coded anything before.

But I wanted to learn I started out trying to figure out what I wanted to make and being a life long trek fan all my life
the new movies popularity as well as the amount of new fans I was running into just kind of made trek a good idea.
Besides I never cared much for the shoot em up space battle games that most trek games are based off of.

Judgement rights and 25th anniversary remain some of my favorite trek games and had wished they had done more
with the series.

So my original intention was to create an old style space quest sierra classic graphics type adventure something simular to what the other guy making the trek game that was just announced is doing.

But the problem was I knew i could learn how to code it and use AGS.

But I am the type of person who can not even draw a stick pig so my dreams of game design was about to come to an end real quick if I could not do that.

Thats when I stumbled onto the website www.xcalpro.com which is owned and operated by Tony  Oliveira.

If your a trek or classic sci-fi fan you might enjoy his site its a community based site like AGS here but they specialize in making 3d models of classic sci-fi scenes with poser and other 3d programs. You can almost find all the rooms of the enterprise there along with many clothes, hairstyles and props from trek.

Much of those 3d items are what will be used in this game series.

even though our game is classic 2d like most other adventure games here the backgrounds are well thought out ahead of time.

I used my limited knowledge of drawing basic scenes with paint and created a storyboard and laid it all out on a design wiki for tony then he took those sketches and created an entire 3d scene for our two planets which will be used in the game.
which we then rendered into various 2d shots.

The sprites them selfs are being done the same way 3d figures rendered into 2d sprites with faces of the original actors  added to that later.

much of our sprites for phasers, communicators, tricorder and basic trek props already existed in Tony's site as well as most Enterprise rooms which will be used.

so Tony has been in charge of all backgrounds, sprites, and objects.

Along the way I meet up with DrewCCU (Andrew Smith) from this forums who was stationed in Iraq at the time and needed something to keep his mind off of well being in a war zone.

So he joined the team as our sound effects and music guy. He has created almost an entire soundtrack of Music that is new and done from scratch but also sounds like it came from 1960's Star Trek.

so that is one thing that is taking some time and that is nothing is borrowed in this game its all being created from scratch and original even if its a classic sound we could rip anywhere we are doing it ourselves.

along the way Andrew also helped with much of our interface for save, load, settings, exit scenes and such and gave them a very classic trek look and feel which can be seen in the snapshots I posted above.

As I mentioned before Arena will be the first mission pack released if any question to why Arena it made the perfect adventure game format to get started with I am interested in keeping classic cannon as much as possible but the game series will focus on one year of the mission at a time and will be set up where you can later play them in any order you want.

so we will not go by stardate or original air date all the way though I mean there is a point you can be to anal about something and even the original episodes were not always aired by stardate order when they appeared on TV.

but other then that we are going to try to stay as close to the original source material as possible.

If you have watched Arena before you will know the episode featured two locations Cestus III an outpost that had come under attack and a Battleworld which kirk faught for his life from a godzilla want a be lol.

we have 99 percent of the backgrounds completed for both those locations  with the exception of doing some last moment re-renders to improve on an idea that we had last min.

One thing which slowed the project down just a notch but will have a product in your hands faster in the end.
Is that we original was going to have the game as 8 mini episode in one long commercial style game format.

we decided instead of having a few games like that we would make it the format it is now and release mission packs and allow the game to be an ongoing growing game that will have player input as it grows.

doing it this way allows us to concentrate on making each mission pack the best it can be without rushing or cutting things or sliming back because of space requirement in a larger game. This has allowed us to do a much better project then we original intended or thought we could do.

anyway right now concentration has switched to finishing the character sprites and coding of actual game play we are still tweaking the interface layout a little but the project has had significant advancement since my first post about it and I will not give a time frame on first release only that it will not be to many more months less then 6 months I can probably say that pretty certain.

and in the end the player can choose how large the game will be or how much space they want it to take up as you can collect only the missions that interest you and still access them from the game launcher.

anyway I may have gave some repeat info or info thats not important to anyone else but wanted to credit my team a little and let everyone know about their hard work they deserve it very much.

also wanted people to know we will be launching a site which will be based on games made by fans of old tv shows and movies that will attempt to help bring project teams together to work on games based off everyones fav tv show or movie of the past. I will give more detail on that later as our main focus is to get this project done without distractions.

take care all and thanks for those who have followed us

ANyway, i just wanted to echo what James said and let you guys know we appreciate your support and you are keeping us motivated with th is project.  So keep posting your questions and we will do whatever we can to keep your interest alive. thanks.

Request for sprite artist.

This is a word sent out there to any talented sprite artist.
We have the talent needed to complete this project but
at the moment we have one person working all art in game
backgrounds. objects, sprites etc.

It would be more beneficial to us and help each person stay more focused
and do a better job in each area if we recruited an additional sprite artist to assist
us in the creation of our character sprites.

This would be the sole and only job of the new team recruit and they would be credited fully.

what we have done so far is use poser back models and we have created uniform morphs for them
we have hair styles as well and each character is saved as a seperate file and ready to begin animation work.

we are creating animation cycles from there and rendering these cycles into 2d sprites which we plan to photoshop
the correct faces onto and clean up from there.

we do not have to stick with this process if someone is talented enough with sprite creation in another way and can
match and make them blend into the background we have just as well they will have creative freedom to do this in any
way they see fit and not take our approach.

recruiting another person is not dependent on us finishing the project we have enough resolve to finish this on our own and with the talent we have but the recruit of another person will speed up the project considerably as well as leave each person on the team free to work in the areas they specialize in best and make each of those areas the best they can be.

Thanks in advance for any offers I recieve.

this does not have to be long term as this is an ongoing project if someone simply wants to assist with this first mission pack
this is acceptable.

AGS if I should have posted this in another place i figured the thread in which people was following the progress was suitable.

FAQ

Below you will find a list of frequently asked questions.  If you
have a question that is not on this list then please contact us at:
startrekadventures@gmail.com

-Why a bunch of smaller games called "Missions" and not just one BIG game?
-Will these missions follow exactly the story of the episode they portray?
-When will the next full mission download be released?
-When will the next mission demo be released?
-How much is the game going to cost?
-Are you currently looking for more people to join your team?
-What program do you use to make this game?

-Are you planning to release a Star Trek game with an original story/plot in the future?
-As the focus seems to be year one of the five year mission why was "Arena" chosen to be the first mission as its star date is not the earliest mission?

Q: Why a bunch of smaller games called "Missions" and not just one BIG game?

A: How many times have you ever played a game and finished it hoping there would be a sequel? And how many times has the sequel if it came been a disappointment to you? Maybe they changed the interface or controls. Maybe the game just doesn't have the same feel as the original you came to love. Our series is designed to be just that: a series of ongoing adventures. We will use the same interface and control system (at least very similar) for all our games so that players do not have to learn a new set up every time there is a sequel. We will be able to get new games out to you much quicker then you would ever had to wait for a commercial sequel.

Q: Will these missions follow exactly the story of the episode they portray?

A: With any movie-to-game (or in this case television-to-game) conversion there must be puzzles and things added to have an enjoyable game experience. As a movie was meant to be watched a game is meant to be played. We have all played games based off of movies that had nothing to do with the movie or there was too much stupid stuff added. We are working hard to make sure our puzzles and game play stays well in tune with the episode while remaining an entertaining game to play.

Q: When will the next full mission download be released?

A: Our First Mission Arena is currently in the coding phase and is estimated out sometime by the early part of 2010.

Q: When will the next mission demo be released?

A: Hopefully if all stays on schedule the first demo will be completed sometime in November or December of 2009.

Q: How much is the game going to cost?

A: Star Trek Adventures: Year One  is a FREEWARE point-and-click adventure game that is created strictly for entertainment purposes and we in NO WAY intended to receive profit from this fan-based game.  We understand that Star Trek is copyrighted by CBS/Paramount and we are not them nor are we affiliated in any way with them or hold any license to produce a commercial Star Trek game.  We simply are creating this game to honor the original vision of its creator Gene Roddenberry, The actors, staff, all its fans and all those who made this wonderful series possible. We wish for this game series to be a way to give something back to for all the enjoyment it has given us over the years and we wish to keep its original vision alive for a new generation who are just now starting to see Roddenberry's vision for the first time.

Q: Are you currently looking for more people to join your team?

A: We could use some sprite artist right now but would not turn down any form of help given as the project is an ongoing project there will be many stages of game development going on at any given time so there is always work to do. Email us if you are a sprite designer, coder, background artist or any other talent that might be beneficial to us. The only thing we do not need help with at the moment is music.

Q: What program do you use to make this game?

A: We are using AGS (The Adventure Game Studio.) Which can be located at www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk

Q: How closely will the game resemble Gene Roddenberry's Star Trek?

A: As this series of games is currently set in the first year of the original Star Trek series and is planned to remake the entire series you can say it is as close as anything you have ever seen to keeping with that vision. All involved have been life long fans, know the stories, know the characters, know all the lore and history. So there is a lot of attention going into making the game remain true to its roots.

Q: Will the game use a scoring system?

A: We will be adding a scoring based system in which will be similar to many adventure games where certain actions will gain points and there will be a max number of points attainable by the end of the game. The point system will not effect game play very much. However, we do have secrets and unlockable content planned which will be reward for high scores.

Q: Will the game offer replayability?

A: The games are being designed to be fun to play and will capture the feel of Star Trek as you have loved it. So that alone will give most trekies a reason to reload the game up from time to time for a replay. With the ability to have unlockable content and special hidden items as well as a point system the game will offer many reasons to replay the missions more than once.

Q: Will you be able to fire hand phasers and/or fight space battles?

A: All of the equipment such as phasers, tricorder's, medical scanners, hypo sprayers will be able to be used. There will be an option that allows each playable character to set their phaser to stun or kill. There will also be opportunities to have space battles as well. When there is a plaque or sickness to cure you will be able to take over Doctor McCoy's lab and develop the cure. There will be many such surprises in store as the game missions progress.

Q: Will "Bones" McCoy be speaking his famous phrases?

A: The first scene of the first mission ("Arena") features a famous fight between the Dr. McCoy and Spock. We are very mindful that dammit he's a Doctor not a moon shuttle conductor. Much care is being taken to look at every possible interaction in the game and make sure it is something that fits with the established history and personality of the characters.

Q: Are you planning to release a Star Trek game with an original story/plot in the future?

A: One is in the story witting phase right now which is titled Star Trek: Beginning's which will feature The first mission of Kirk and crew together and tell much of their back story. It will have some trace elements of the new movie but will tell more the story of the prime universe without the altered timeline or reality. It'll tell the real story of our heroes we have loved. It is also being designed to feature use of all the main characters, each in one of their own mini missions which will seem to not connect but will all connect by end of the game.

We also plan to do more then just the episodes. We will dive into comics, cartoons, novels, our own original stories, and even give you, the players, an opportunity to have your own fan fiction turned into a game. We will conduct polls and let players also vote for the next episode to be featured as a game.

Q: As the focus seems to be year one of the five year mission why was "Arena" chosen to be the first mission as its star date is not the earliest mission?

A: Our games will be created and released as separate mini missions each one playable on its own right. You will be able to download only the ones you want to play. Doing it like this allows you players to collect only the missions they want. Even the original air dates and the star dates did not match at times. There comes a point where one can be too picky. Our games will encompass the first year of the mission and you the player can decide to play them in whatever order you deem fit.

Just wanted to let everyone know where we are in production.

At this moment we are done with scripting for the demo.
Each mission we release will follow the path of an episode
which originally had three acts per episode.

the demo will revolve around act one.

with the full game including act 2 and act 3.

So you will get a large amount of game play from the demo itself.

all of Act 1 is in place except for one Mini game which we are saving for the full version.

The exciting part of this has been that we have been able to create a basic type of gameplay
which we can use for all of our missions which allows for classic exploring and inventory based
systems that allows for use of all the classic Trek props.

this particular mission pack we will be releasing soon allows for two or three mini games which are action
shoot em upper sequences.

whats exciting to me is that we will be able to have multiple different kinds of mini games in each of our games.

Another example of this is in our next release we plan to have a large cavern you have to explore which will allow
for the classic adventure game maze style play.

we have other sequences up later where you have to play as McCoy and create a cure which opens the door for some fun
mini games experiences.

and this does not come into play on this mission pack to much but we have designed things where we can play as multiple characters
and switch back and forth we have plans to create a game specially around that ability and make it quite fun in the future.

I have also been busy penning down ideas for some future original idea games for those of you dead set on seeing us create some new adventures instead of just the remakes.

The ideas are

Star Trek Beginnings
Which sill tell the story of our crews first mission together.

Yes we got this in the last movie but our story will tell the adventures of our classic prime characters and dig deep into the lore of the trek prime universe.

Star Trek: The secret of Vulcan Fury.

We are looking into taking the canceled trek game of the same name and making a fan game version based on the storyline and scripts we have been able to find over the years about it.

It was a fascinating story and if no one is going to finish this game or do it we would like to take it on.

we plan to us everything we know of the story and as many backgrounds and things that are out there left over from it as we can.

any of you who was fans of this game and wanted to see it finally made and would like to help create the story or plot to fill the gaps in from the things we knew about it are welcome to contact us.

anyway we are done scripting the demo and are merely awaiting character sprites touch ups so expect something playable from us real soon.

We missed the mark by a week but official beta testing for the game will begin tomorrow morning.

You may join the beta test team by sending an email to myself here at ags or to startrekadventures@gmail.com
and express your interest.

We will then send you a welcome letter with download and bug reporting procedures and how to get started.

The current bug test will be for Act 1 of the game (4 acts will be in final game) and will run from Feb 18th until March the first.

If you are interested in joining us for this beta test and have the time to play though a couple times and report your findings
or send reviews or comments to us your time will be welcomed.

As this is planned as an ongoing game series our beta testers are very important to us and can and will direct the outcome and direction
of this series for many games to come.

We will find a way later to provide something special to our beta testers in the way of some non-published mini games etc.

all beta testers will be given credit in the final game unless otherwise said.

Thank you for your time

Beta sign ups will start tomorrow morning at 8:00 am

STAY-1 TEAM

I've been waiting a while for someone to post about this. Is anyone here aware that the Startrek Adventures website is down? It's been down for at least 3 weeks now. I downloaded the beta of the game when it came out, but there was a problem with the game locking me out (because the lockout date hadn't been reset). I got passed the lockout fast  ;D. Anyway, I saw this problem had been posted on the bug tracker, so I decided to wait a few weeks to check for a new release. Now, the website is down and there's been no mention of it in any emails or forum posts. Can anyone explain what the progress is?

The bug tracker's also down.

The Game is still very much alive.

Health reasons and other personal reasons and various life issues  effected the development team
at the launch of beta time.

So we did not get to fully do the beta like we wanted.
The website is being translated over into Joomla to better Integrate
with another site of ours that will host these games.

We have just put the finishing touches on Act 1 of the game
as well as did a slight overhaul on our interface to make it look better
and be easier to use for the player.

We have designed and completed the on board the ship interface and act 2 interface
and have finished a demo of the act 3 stage

we are now moving into scripting for act 2 and act 3 at the same time

I would like to have had this game done quicker but theres life to and it has to come first
The good news is we learned a lot on this game and learned from mistakes and other issues
and have decided to go forward with out original plans to make this an ongoing series.

Within the next week I will post new screen shots for everyone

we will probably save the next beta for when we are complete with our vision of the full game
and release one for a couple weeks before final release.

Thanks for anyone staying interested

Great to hear that the site will be back up soon. I have a couple requests from the small amount of the beta that I played. First off, can you give the characters sprites for when they're walking diagonally? This would make the game look much better. Secondly, can you increase the speed of the walking animations? It kind of turned me off when I saw how slowly the characters moved around. I hope you listen to these suggestions. Thanks!

Thanks!

The walking animation speed has been increased as well as animations in general it is more on par and acceptable now to be honest the creation and addition of diagonal walking animations will probably not make it into this release as we are so far into it and had so many delays that our main goal now it to release the project soon not that we will cut quality but that we have to be picky and choosy about what we do here or we will be working on this forever.

I hope the beta showed promise to you with what we are attempting how did you feel we captured the feel of trek with what you seen?

As this is planned as an ongoing game series we will put on the list diagonal  walking animations for the next release as we plan to improve the game as we go only user response like yours will help us do that so thanks.

we have redesigned the interface since your beta here is a peek at it

We have decided not to release any more betas we will very shortly be releasing an official demo which will include act 1 in its entirety.
We hope that by making it easy for all to try out we can increase our response and have you the players help develope the rest of the series.

the walking animation is something we played with through this long process of making the game.  In the current demo, that speed should be significantly better.  However, if you still feel you would like it to move a little faster then just go into the settings menu and increase the game speed a little.

let us know what you think. thanks.

Also pressing the +/- keys will increase or decrease the active players walk speed without changing the rest of the games speed
