I've currently put 'Dick LaRenzo: Secret Agent!' on hold for a while while I make 'STRANDED'.
STRANDED is a PSYCHOLOGICAL HORROR set in 2005.
You are tired and frustrated businessman Peter Reeve.
Here's the blurb:
During The Summer of 2005, a businessman was travelling in his car halfway across the country for a job interview.
Experiencing car problems, he pulled into an innocent-looking village.
This village wasn't on the map.
This is his story.

Looks really great Darren!
Darren,
Too bad you've put 'Dick LaRenzo: Secret Agent, I would have love seeing completion of that but I'm sure this temporary.
Be sure however to update that original post and ask Darth to lock it.
Congratulation also for finding a better file hosting and I would definately recommend to others where I'm doing some beta work.
I have downloaded your game and will comment later.

I know there is nothing to do in demo. I recommend adding extra things to it so you received feedback.
Cheers Splat44,
But remember its a work-in-progress. I've got to customise the inventory bar and quit options etc. This release is to basically give out a feel of the mood which I'm trying to create.
I'm trying to make it as eerie and as 'jumpy' as possible.
Not to bad just need to work on his walkcycle a little.
looks really nice and spooky, just the way i like it.
You should host it on www.savefile.com , its less annoying and has no wait times
unlimited space and you don't even have to be a member to upload it free
(i would recommend becoming a member since you can delete)
Cheers Tim, I've updated the ZIP file and uploaded to savefile.com.
So has anybody actually previewed Stranded yet and if so do you think it captures the right atmosphere?
Looks really good, Am I suppose to be able to get out of the first screen where he is with the car>?????
Yeah it sure captures the right atmosphere, I really like it.
@Rosie:

Yes you are. It's possible to get to the second screen and with the version I'm uploading now, you'll be able to look at the doll too.
Download it here:

Looks very good and quite spooky, but I think that the character does not fit in it as good as the other graphics. I think it have too much cartoon look.
Yeah, this is my major quibble with it too.
Do you think that perhaps a 'real person' would look much better? i.e. use actual snapshots of a human and import them into the game?

That's a tricky question. I think it could work but I personally would use a computer craphics made character.
Maybe you should try to use real person and see what others think?
Yeah, it's something I'm definately going to consider. I suppose it'd kind of be like Gabriel Knight II.
Anyhow, here's another screenshot for you all :)

Well after playing the newest version I can honestly say I'm really looking forward to this :D
Man I just loved the doll scene, you caught me of guard there ;)
Spoiler
You actually scared me.....wow....
Thanks Mozesh! I know that bit doesn't need any re-doing lol.
Here's a test screen with a 'real' person on. I just got the guy off the internet, I don't know who he is but it's only to see if it looks better than drawn 'cartoony' characters.

I know what I think.
looks great. what about taking a real person and modifying it to look pixelated. something in that line?
Please check out this post when you get the chance guys:

Seriously Darren,
Maybe put a picture of yourself here, or better in the critics lounge and see if people think that you're up for the job... Since you are considering of using yourself that is... And of course you won't create any problems with you ;)
Just played the demo. Unfortunately I got a message my digital audio hardware couldn't be enabled, so I wasn't able to hear sounds or music. But nevertheless I loved the atmosphere!
As Candle already said the character's walk-cycle looked odd, but I think you were already aware of it, and since you want to use real actors now it doesn't matter anymore.
Hey, you just made a very high entry on my "looking-forward-to-this"-list, I hope you can handle that pressure.Ã, Ã, ;)
Good luck with the game!
EDIT: I gave my sound card a second try, telling it the next slot I'd put it into would be one of the toaster's, and.....taaataaa sound and music!Ã, Awesome work!
Spoiler
Though I knew what would come I was in need of some fresh underwear after that doll scene with sound. Oh, I'm such a wimp...
Very good, Darren. You've captured the atmosphere all the way! Amazing!
A question: The music? did you write it? If not who did, or where did you find it. I think that this is going to be a very good game.
Of course I also believe that you have to change the main character. And when you find your actor make sure that his animation is better than this one. Sorry for this...
But amazing atmosphere anyway! Good job! Good job! Tha music?
Thanks Nikolas!
The music is one of the things I wanted to be as professional and as atmospheric as possible - as you know, music can make or break a game.
The music used is free/no-licence music found on the net. The sound effects though are actually me.
Peter's gentle trampling on the leaves is in fact me crunching up a piece of paper in front of a mic and modifying it in Sound Forge.
The loud 'bang' on the STRANDED title was me making a loud 'DOOFF!!!' noise into a mic and slowing down the pitch and adding reverb in Sound Forge. Getting the timing right on everything was a challenge but I'm gald I pulled it off, judging by some of the comments about certain scenes.
I tried the newest version of the demo. It was GOOD!!!
That doll scene was done fantastic, keep up the good work!
Here's another screenshot.
I'm DEFINATELY going for a 'real' actor instead of the 'cartoony' character in the game so far. But for now I'll stick with him until I get the right sprites.

The official demo is now available too. Check the first post.
Wow, great work.
I like those extra graphics.
I seem to Summer 2006 on graphics, is this the proposed time your planning in releasing full version?
It is indeed Splat :)
I actually reckon it'll be done before that but I'm just staying within the safety margin and not jumping the gun. It's coming along great now and I'm really getting into the flow.
Have you ripped the background graphics somewhere and edited them in photo program?
Or what :)?
The graphics aren't ripped no. They have been manipulated though. The majority of background photos are infact taken through the day and then 'edited' to look like like night photos. Most people think using photos is a lazy way but it takes me over an hour to manipulate and finalise each background.
I know, I use Paint shop pro myself and I have learned, that it can take much time to manipulate just one picture.
You have done wonderful job in your manipulates :).
Just played the demo, great atmosphere music and presentation great job with those backgrounds,
really looking forward to the completed game, are you going to be doing any kind of voice acting on the game?
Cheers mooseman :)
Voices are indeed going to be featured in the game but they'll be done once the whole game is completed. Send me an email with an MP3 sample to darrenjohnson@onetel.net
