Title: Technobabylon - Part 4
Post by: Technocrat on Sun 08/05/2011 11:45:05
How are you supposed to feel when your friend and partner is on the run, and has been accused of murder? Doctor Lao certainly doesn't know, but she does know that she doesn't believe it was Regis. Or, maybe she just won't?

Technobabylon: Part 4

Featuring:
- A plot development or several!
- Three playable characters (including a new one)!
- Refinements that I should have made several months ago!

Sure, I might have *said* that I wanted to aim for a different project/style, but I've got an extremely short attention span. So here's the fourth part of Technobabylon.

I started on it two days ago, and I'm about half-way through. Should have something testable by Tuesday, and something releasable by next weekend.

Until then!

[20 October]

Ha ha next weekend yeah right

At this rate, what with completely overhauling the art, I'd say it's around a week and a half before I have something testable on the go.

I really dig the new backgrounds and can't wait to play as Lao. Don't rush it though.

Hell, yeah - that is amazing!  :o

Are you working at an assembly line
(or has my hypnotic powers influenced you much more, than I thought)?  ::)

You know, I really can't stand the waiting for TB4 to come,
but I also have to agree to what Ascovel + anian said already -
so please, take your time needed!  :-*

Not to forget:
I like the bg's and announced features ...   :D

Well spotted! I loved those when I saw them in Sunshine, and I've been dying to put them in a game ever since. So, here they are!

What is that "Sunshine" you're talking about? The only thing that springs to my mind is Mario Sunshine.

Sunshine is a great scifi movie in the same strait as Moon and Solaris.

Man Tech, I can't believe how fast you're cranking these out. Keep it up!

Yep, game itself is finished, now I just need to playtest the hell out of it.

Edit: Ah...looks like the game's files themselves are now having a problem. That might set me back a bit.

Merci beaucoup, Darth!

So, yes, Technobabylon 4 is, as some people will already know, most certainly not dead - just held up a bit by

a) Complete graphical overhaul
b) Employment

Since the job finishes in three weeks anyway, that's not going to be much of a problem any longer. Most optimistic estimate, I'd say there'll be something testable within the next six weeks. So, just to show you what kind of thing I've been changing...

I wouldn't call them amazing, I'd say they just look better than their predecessors! Now I just need to make backgrounds up to par with them.

I love the new sprites, but I'd prefer the older games to stay as they are.

I think I'll probably keep 2 and 3 as they are (because I'm lazy), but I do have plans to at least redo number one, even if it were only to improve the atrocious inventory system and the bug-ridden gameplay.

So, yes, ahem, work was getting in the way. Now it's not. Expect considerably faster turnover.

Also, remade all previously made scenery. Now I just have to make the new bits. And decide if I'm going to combine part 5 with part 4. Current policy is "anti-alias the hell out of everything".

The second screenshot is awesome! Very forward to see next part of Technobabylon, the next philip.k.dick-novelesque number one background for movies!

I vote for mixing part 4 and 5, the larger the games, the better, for my taste!

Dig the new style...

You might want to consider updating the first post with the new screens.  It's not necessary (by the rules) but might be more helpful to newcomers to the thread!

Perhaps keep links to the old and mention the overhaul... something like that!

Just a suggestion.  Glad to know this is still cooking!

Looking forward to it. If you need anymore testers then PM me up  :D (although, you probably have enough of those).

I vote against combining Part 4 and 5. That means I will have to wait longer for my Technobabyfix   :(

You placed a timetable of how you're going to work on the game on your blog:

Blog Post (http://technocratgames.blogspot.com/2011/10/perils-of-real-world.html)

But the image is too small and I cannot read the text :'( is this intentional to conceal spoilers? I would love more of an insight into how you operate in order to crank out the games as quickly as you do?

Quickly? I've taken six months on this one!

Should be faster with the new system, though. The secret to getting them done quickly is - no social life!  ;D

And yes, it's intentionally small for spoilers. Maybe I'll do a more in-depth (but spoiler-free) version for the next one, for all to see!

I just read your reply over at www.systemshock.org (http://www.systemshock.org/index.php?topic=3964.msg48636#msg48636), and wondered if the web page you mentioned is where we should look for news about the forth instalment? (and the revised versions of the three earlier ones) I've had your Blogspot page bookmarked for a long time, but there hasn't been any sparks from there for over nine months...  :~(
