Coming June 30th, 2009, from Wadjet Eye Games! (http://www.wadjeteyegames.com)
A new film opens to rave reviews, despite its bloody history. A beautiful uptown office remains unoccupied, despite its prime location. A downtown artist berates himself for selling out, while a Wall Street investor congratulates himself on a job well done. Just normal life in the big city? Or is somthing more sinister binding these events together?
Bizarre connections are a dime a dozen for the Blackwell family, but just how far back do they go? Medium Rosangela Blackwell and her spirit guide Joey Mallone are about to find out.

Great. Still looking cool and awesome Dave...
I wish I could somehow easily sell these games in my shop, GameWorld; I reckon people would buy them!
Dave great game great seairs so far but i most say i am not exactly feeling the new roseangela to be frank shes awful
Looks outstanding, as usual. :)
I wish you all the best with this, your third commercial blackwell game! Think about it, Dave: you've now produced a trilogy!
I'm exited about the new game. I don't think the new Roseangela is that bad. True her voice is a bit deeper but I think this is as close as you could get. Looking forward to playing it.
The change in voiceover actresses was unavoidable, alas. The original actress (Sande Chen) is way too busy nowadays to commit to doing the voiceovers for this, in addition to living too far away. Rebecca is in for the duration, and as a bonus she's worked with Abe before.
Cant be helpd I guess great game though
I don't think Rebbeca's that bad, definately not awful, I think you're just bothered because it's not The original voice actress.
I'm looking foward to this game (even though I still haven't played the previous games).
I'm really looking to this!!
Changing actors in a game is never really that great of a idea in Dave's case though he had no choice Rebbecca will century take some getting used to Dave I'm a actor I can help with voice directions if you like?
Luck on you, Dave. That looks fantastic!

Maybe discuss with Dave a bit? get a few copies and see how it goes? something to that end?
Dave, really cool! God luck with this and let us know when we can preorder and stuff! :D
Gorgeous as usual, Dave. Congrats! Where do I get in line?
This looks fantastic. Can't wait for the game! :=
I actually found the original Rosangella's voice a bit annoying and this might even be better.
Anyway, can't wait for the game. I'm more than willing to buy this one as well.
Yay! Looking forward to this.
Really looking forward to this one. It's a shame that Sande wasn't available, and I must say that I prefer the previous cover illustrations - this one seems to lack some of Dan Lee's unique "painterly" style. But the plot sounds absolutely intriguing (haunted movie? welcome to the club :)) and the screens are gorgeous. When I first saw the character sketches in the unlockables for Unbound, I thought the guy in the tie was supposed to be the ghost of Joseph Mitchell, but it seems to be a new character, which only makes things more interesting...
QuoteIt's a shame that Sande wasn't available
Arr. In times, the voice-acting wasn't much, but Sande's voice really defined Rosa.
Still, out with the old, in with the new, I guess. If Dave picked this new Rosa, then it's because she sounds more like Rosa.

Hello hello!
A stand-alone demo of Blackwell Convergence is now available. It's a bit on the short side, but has a self-contained story, 500+ lines of voiced dialog, and four ways to get to the end.
So check it out. (http://wadjeteye.typo.i24.cc/Convergence_Demo_Setup.exe) Yar.
Hey, cool. I'll give it a play this afternoon when I have a chance for a proper sitdown.
Dave,
Brilliant demo. Congratulations to you and your team for what is shaping up to be a brilliant looking game. I had to make sure I did the four ways (I hope) to get to the end, and I loved it. The little bit of dialogue about the paperclip made me laugh, as did the way Joey and Rosa smile in a "Trust me" kinda way.
Graphics, sound, music, gameplay and story are all top notch.
Good work.
Dave?
first of all a bug:

Tried moving (as I always do) a note from the notebook to show the inventory and try to combine them.
Other than that it looks really polished, but also really... fammiliar. It's good to see the usual faces and hear the usual voices, along with the usual music together again. :)
I'll be buying it! ;)
I encountered one as well trying to unlock the door with the clip with the instructions on

But other than that, everything was on spot again. I hope this means the full version is near completion. And I hope you keep on making games for a long time.

Great demo, Dave. And the theme music is absolutely wonderful. Does this mean that the full game is nearing release?

Sooorta. The scene is more of a "tutorial level", which introduces all the gameplay concepts at the very beginning of the game. In TV shows you often get a "lead-in" scene, something that takes place right before the opening credits that has nothing to do with the rest of the story. That's what this demo is. It'll be in the game, but it'll be seperate from the main story.
And Cino: buh? Yeesh I've had 10 testers go over this demo for a few weeks now and none of them ever encountered that bug. I think I know what causes it though.
-Dave
Nice Demo but....
right at the end, you see a few character sprites. Is it just me or does everyone else (as in apart from Rosa and Joey) have bigger heads? It's probably just my eyes playing with me and even if they were bigger, I still have no complaints.
Liked the demo, though there does seem to be a visible difference in the old sprites (Joey and Rosa) compared to the new ones.
Not too big of a problem though :)
Can't wait!
Awesome demo, Dave. It's easily my most favorite out of the three Blackwell demos you've released so far. Everything in it was great. I do however have to agree about the other character sprites being in a different style.
Hi all. Just a little bump to let you know that this project isn't dead. As I've mentioned before, I've gone with a studio here in NYC to do the background art, and Shane Stevens has been working on the new sprites. There will be more to show, soon. But in the meantime, here are some screenshots showing the new style:

A locked door. Most adventure game characters would be frustrated by this, but not Joey.
As always, you can learn more by checking out the Wadjet Eye Games site. (http://www.wadjeteyegames.com)
Looks great, Dave. That restaurant has an almost Gabriel Knight feel to it. But didn't you say in your video that you wouldn't be releasing screenshots for this game, or were you just talking about work in progress?

Yep. :)
The backgrounds work nicely.
The new style is looking extremely nice!
Hopefully it won't last long before the game is released...
Brilliant work. Love the new art style for the backgrounds. Glad you are working with a studio this time around.
I love the fact you are going with full screen background art this time around, also the color palette used is gorgeous. :D
Thanks everyone. :) I'm very excited about the new art direction. Hopefully I'll have an ETA update soon.

I honestly don't know how you do it. I haven't played any of the Blackwell games as of yet but from what I've seen...wow...great work! :D
New screenies look great.
Look forward to picking this one up when it's released :).
Hey Dave. Nice to see the new shots. Very excited about the game and glad things are back on track. I checked out luminous arts when I got back to the UK after my trip, and their stuff is extremely good.
The sprites work well with the new style. They are a very recognisable style.
great looking game. I've played the other Blackwell game's demos, but I haven't gotten around to purchasing them yet. But I'm always impressed by the quality of work that goes into this series, and this one is no exception. I know when I first saw the $20 tag I thought it had to have something to warrant it, seeing how Legacy was only $15. Now after seeing the screens the deuce 10's are well worth the quality.
But now I have to ask, now that there's a third installment coming out, are you planing on (in the future some time after this installment) releasing a trilogy collection?
Hey Ed. Thanks. :)
There's a good reason for the price hike, and not just because of the production values or a simple desire to make more money. A year after I released the first Blackwell game, I started selling them on the casual portals and they became very popular there. Unfortunately, the portals always $20 for each game, so the fact that it was offered for $15 on the Wadjet Eye Games website looked kind of sketchy and inconsistent (and pissed people off when they bought the game on a portal and then saw it offered for less on my site). The portals weren't going to lower their price and I couldn't justify raising mine, so I decided that all future titles would match the price of the portals to avoid this kinda thing.
Doing some kind of collection is something I plan on doing. The series isn't going to be over by any means, but there'll definitely be something.

First I would just like to say the new screens looks amazing!
And I will definatly buy this one aswell when it comes out!
(Still unfortnatly got to finish all your other games, right now I wont have time but in the near future I hope to get more time for fun and play ;D.)
Secondly, a PRO DVD collection in the future would be awesome to see ;).
And would be a "MUST HAVE" for me.
Good luck to you and your team!
Peder Johnsen.
A collection would force me to repurchase all the games, which, given the amount of time already spent on playing the games multiple times, is going to force me to buy everything you release.
Hell, if you brought out Blackwell Galoshes I'd have to get them.

FAN ART CONTEST ANNOUNCED!
Cross posted from the Wadjet Eye blog. (http://www.wadjeteyegames.com) Figured I'd give you AGSers a heads up. :)
Hello all. A disturbing fact has been brought to my attention. It's been entirely too long since we had a fan art contest.
There is a reason for that. Normally, the big prize for winning a fan art contest is a free copy of the upcoming game. That couldn't happen this time around, since the upcoming game won't be released until at least the fall. So any fan art contests had to be postponed.
However! That has all changed. You might have noticed the little graphic on the right column of main page, linking you to the Wadjet Eye Games merchandise store (http://www.zazzle.com/davelgil). You can now purchase Wadjet Eye related mugs, shirts, posters, hats, and all sorts of stuff. After all, wouldn't the world be a better place if more people wore Rabbi Stone on a t-shirt?
There's an added bonus to this store as well. I now had items I could give away as prizes! Lo and behold, a new fan art contest was born!
So, for the entire month of August, I'll be holding another fan art contest. Send in your various renderings, drawings, sketches, paintings, or whatevers of any characters from any Wadjet Eye Game.
The three top winners will receive a prize of their choice: a mug, a t-shirt, or a poster.
The three runners up will receive a nice collection of fridge magnets with various Wadjet Eye characters on them.
Everyone else will receive a consolation prize. Nobody leaves this contest empty handed!
More details (among other things) within this brand spanking new vidcast:
[Can't embed youtube videos, so GET THE VIDCAST HERE (http://youtube.com/watch?v=B1irkrIbqWo)]
Email all entries to me(dave at wadjeteyegames dot com), or pm them to me on the forum.
Cheers!
-Dave
Is it okay to send in fan art just for the sake of fan art and ask NOT to get a prize?
Besides, I'm still 'in the clouds' on this shipping things from country to country thing; don't know the procedures.
Hey Vertigo. If you want to enter and not receive a shipped prize, feel free! There's a digital prize for all who enter so you'll at least get something.
Very well! Nice backgrounds!
Slight update to the fan art contest! I was asked by a number of folks to create some kind of grand prize for the best piece of art. I thought about it, and here's what I came up with.
There's one minor character in the game that has not been designed yet. Win the contest, and we'll design that character to look like you! The character can be male, female, oldish, or youngish, so the prize can be given to anyone.
The deadline has also been extended to September 9th.
Cheers,
-Dave
Hi all! Been awhile. The infamous PlayFirst Project is keeping me massively busy, but I still have managed to give Blackwell a little love. Or rather, Ian has. He has updated the characters portraits and given them a more painted look.

Beautiful portraits, Dave. Big brother has really surpassed himself on this one. They remind me very much of GK1, only without that exaggerated purple lighting. I really look forward to seeing them animated.

Joey's workin' overtime to punch-out this release.
I don't think Rosa's character portrait has as much personality as the old one and doesn't look much like her. I'd like to see it closer to the original, but that's just my opinion.
I have just tried the first two episodes, and I really like them. The Blackwell story is something very original. I'm really looking forward to the third episode, the demo was fantastic with the new graphics, and I also like the new voice-over much more than the original.
Keep up the good work!+!
I'd have to disagree with you joel, not that this is the CL or the place to say what we like/don't like. I think Ian's done an exceptional job with the portraits, and they have a less cartoony but more colorful look to them compared to Legacy. I think that when you see the rest of the portraits in game it will look more coherent, but tastes vary.
I'd have to agree with ProgZmax, and to be honest over the past 8 years that I've been checking out AGS this has to be the best looking game I have seen using the engine.
Can't wait for this one. I wish the stop watch was just invisible though so I didn't have to see it every time, am I the only one who thinks this?

Agreed.
I've produced a few cartoon shorts as a way to promote the new Blackwell game. It's been in the works for awhile, but the first episode is up!
Blackwell Cartoon #1: "On the Town" (http://bit.ly/hGqCG)
Joey encourages Rosa to get out more, with interesting results.
Very nice. I hope the cats will show up in the future episodes, they usually are a blast to have in a cartoon. ;)
I'm curious, do any of the people who make the cartoons belong to the team that works on the game? (other than the voice talent and yourself, I mean)
Thanks Ascovel. Flash Potatoes did the animation and they worked on Emerald City Confidential, but they didn't work on Blackwell. Thomas Regin's theme is from the game, so technically he worked on the cartoon too!
Amazing short Dave, laughing the whole way on the way to work on the train. Definetly made my day a little brighter :)
Yeah, funny short. :D I half expected one of the guys in the bar to be Rabbi Stone, giving us the scene from The Shivah from Rosa's POV.
Anyway, I had a question about the game itself: Will it have lipsync?
I think that's a feature that really improves the perceived production values of the game, and makes the experience more immersive for players. And with the new editor plugins (AGS 2.7 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=34516.msg457513#msg457513)(?), 3.1 (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=37792)), adding support for it seems to be a lot easier than it used to be.
Aaand here's another video. Game's fast approaching so my promotions are ramping up:
Check out some gameplay footage of the game in action. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A7nF3Y1TJl8)
Can't wait to buy this game. The new footage is great, am I right in saying the stop watch has gone now?
No preorder this time?? :O.
You are right in observing that the stop watch is gone. I've updated the cursors up to and beyond *British Standard.
*I can't confirm this.
I'm glad, the stop watch seemed very annoying I just wanted it to go away lol. Great work.
Sigh.
Alas, there's no denying it any longer. Convergence will not hit the June 30th release date as planned. I've delayed the release until July 20th. Many apologies to everyone who wanted to play it next week, but we need more time. All I can say is that the extra weeks will be worth it.

Tempting, but I'm already living dangerously and taking my chances with the fanart contest! :=
Nice! I pre-ordered this game just yesterday. Dave, I hope you know that you've inspired me to looking into starting my own game design company.

Did you send me fanart already? I don't think I got any...
Edit: Oh, and TerranRich, wow! That's awesome.
Not yet, Dave, I'm still not done drawing it. It should be done by tonight.
It took a whole lot of time but my entry is finally done. :D You should find it in your email inbox.
It's the third time I wanted to participate to the contest but the first time I actually did.
I've allready pre-ordered right after I recieved the newsletter ^^.

Send Bytejacker a video or audio version of yourself impersonating Joey and you could win a free copy of the game!
OK, technically this game is done for for sale but the Wadjet Eye Store is having "issues" at the moment. I'll hold off posting in the announcement thread until it's sorted.
IT'S DONE! (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=38343.0)
