Fanart contest in progress! See the last post for details!
From the team that brought you The Shivah, now comes:
The Blackwell Legacy is the first case in a miniseries of games that stars a medium named Rosangela Blackwell and her spirit guide Joey Mallone. Their mission, it seems, is to assist tormented spirits and investigate supernatural goings on. They don't understand why they are thrown together, but they do the best they can.
The duo's first case will involve a series of suicides at a local university. Something unnatural has forced these students to kill themselves, and nobody knows why. Rosangela, who is just coming to terms with her new status as a medium, finds herself cast as the unwilling detective in this gruesome mystery.
WE ARE NOW TAKING PRE-ORDERS!! Plus, for a limited time, you will receive a free Shivah Soundtrack when you pre-order the game. This offer is limited, so don't be slackin'.
The Blackwell Legacy will be available for purchase on December 23rd, 2006 for $14.99. Mark your calendars.
For more information, check out our new website at http://www.wadjeteyegames.com
The team:
Writer/coder - Dave Gilbert

A visit to the family shrink provides little answers
This looks absolutely amazing, I've been looking forward to this announcement ever since I heard a remake was in the works. I love the cover artwork (despite Rosangela's 5 o'clock shadow :)), the style seem similar to the painting someone drew for BJ1. The characters in the screenshots are also awesome, but am I right in assuming that a different person drew the dialog portrait? It doesn't really match the style of the face on the photo - but it's beautiful, it reminds me of the later Sierra games such as Dagger of Amon Ra.
One question, will the unifinished story arc from BoE of Rosangelas family be finished in the first case, or will it span the entire series? This looks so good, but I don't know if I can bear another cliffhanger ending (and another, and yet another).
Good luck with the project! I'm looking forward to it. Edit: And I'm damn impressed that you have the balls to set such a precise release date. :)
Looking awesome Dave!!!
Wishing it will be released on CD. :P.
Gonna for sure try the demo of this if there will be one, and buy it when I can!
Peder.
You mention the team that brought the shivah. Does that mean ProgZmax is working on this? I remember big brother is doing the sprites? (which is looking awesome). Could you maybe list the team in your first post? (since the graphics are by far the most work in an AGS adventure) Who did the cover art also?
Anyways, it looks great, the cover art is amazing! The portraits and sprites too.
That' s great Dave, good luck in your project (well, in how the market replies to your product, as I am sure you' ll release this, and it¡ s going to be great, as ever).
Send a hug to the guys.
GG: I'm all about setting deadlines. Without em, I am lost!
As for the cliffhanger endings, don't worry. The game will not end on a cliffhanger. Each game will be it's own seperate "case" that will have its own beginning, middle and end. There are various backstory plot threads that will be told over the course of the series, but the core of each story will be the individual cases that Rosa and Joey work on.
The poster reminds you of the Ben Jordon poster because it was done by the same artist. Dan Lee is the man.
I updated the original post to include the team members. Sorry, guys! I was rushed. :-D
Thank you kindly :)
Fatnastic!
I hope all the best Dave, and the screennies look awesmoe!
Indeed, it looks amazing, Dave. Can't wait to play it. What more can one say...
good luck, dave and team.
and awesmoe cover art.
Wow Dave this game looks amazing! I missed out on the Shivah, but I look forward to playing this one!
Missed out?
Looks great Dave. Good luck! Aah! Joey just scared me when I was staring at that portrait...
I just noticed that Rosangela is wearing different clothing in the screenshots. Neat, I've loved games where characters change clothes since the multiple costume changes in Codename: Iceman. But why is she wearing a jacket inside the apartment, but not in a park at night?
Dude! This looks just incredible. And I like the look of Joey, he has a very cool, 1930's Private Eye look to him.
I look forward to this game.
And if you're looking for voice actors, well, I'm available.
It looks great, but why are you trying to go commercial?

Missed out?
Missed out, as in couldn't buy it b/c my parents don't buy anything off the internet, and they don't let me so yeah I missed out on the Deluxe version.

To feed his starving children.
Ooh yeah I'd LOVE to do some speech for this game! If it will have any. My voices are in my own game if you've played it, and I can do serious too if needed. Early days, but might as well get my foot in the door!
I trust the gameplay will be good based on the Shivah demo I played and TOAK.
I think the graphics speak for themselves!
Are you going to make a downloadable version of the game to buy?...
I'll have to pay 3 times the price but I think Im gonna get it anyway (devaluation), I wont say it looks great because there's no need to, but Im saying it.
Re voice acting: This is one of those games that have many more female roles than male. All the male roles have been cast (Abe Goldfarb, who played Rabbi Stone, is now voicing Joey), but I am still in the market for lady voices. If any ladies out there want to try voice acting and have decent microphones, drop me a line.
Re going commercial: Why go commercial? Why not?
Re scary Joey: He scared you? Good. :-D
Re jacket: It's not a jacket. It's a sweatshirt. She's wearing two different sets of clothes for each day. Not only that, she's got different hairstyles! Revolutionary!
If this game going ommercial, I hope you will allow purchasing via paypal and without credit cards.
Nice graphics!

Could you "Re" my question too please? >:(
Ikari: A downloadable version? Oh course!
I see dead people in the family photo! ;D looks great.
*nng!*
Well I need a change of pants now.
I've been waiting for a BoE follow up since forever.
The shots look amazing - congrats on a commercial quality product.
Just got a new website up to showcase Blackwell and my other games. Check it out at http://www.wadjeteyegames.com. You can read a bit more about the game, read a bit more about the characters, learn about the actors who are playing Rosa and Joey, and download a free Blackwell Legacy desktop background.
Enjoy.
*DIES* OMG I can't wait for this game to come out!!! I'm so excited!!! ;D ;D ;D
Site's been updated with a new design. It's nice and CMS-ified now. Three cheers for Klaus, who offered to help me and did an amazing job.
Sorry for the bumpage, but I figured folks should know...
We are now taking pre-orders!
Plus, for a limited time, customers will receive a free Shivah Soundtrack with every pre-order. This offer is limited, so don't be slackin'.

Will there be a demo released of this game?
This looks really good.Ã, I think it rocks anytime someone goes commercial.Ã, Power to the people.
Good luck and keep up the good work.

I've pre-ordered mine. Looking forward to playing it!
AUDIO PREVIEWS on the Wadjet Eye forum! (http://www.wadjeteyegames.com/forum/index.php?board=6.0)
Come and listen to Abe Goldfarb as Joey and Chen-Yung Hsu as Alli. More audio previews will be added as time goes on.
Help!
My background artist just got a demanding fulltime job and won't be able to dedicate as much time to the game as he thought. He would like some help with the exterior scenes, since those tend to take him the most mount of time.
There are only four backgrounds, and they are "real world" locations (New York City). Three of them need both day and night versions.
The release date for this game is December 16th. I know that's not a heck of a lot of time, but I am determined to meet the deadline. If anyone out there can help me, it would be most appreciated. I can't pay much, but I WILL pay you. If you prove that you can do good work, then there will be further work for you on my next project (which will begin production in January).
The most complete background thus far is this one. It's the dog walking area of Washington Square Park:
it was based off of this sketch:
http://www.davelgil.com/boe/backgrounds/dogwalkint.gif
It's mostly complete, but a daytime version would also be necessary.
There's also the exterior of the park, which he just started working on:
There was a reference sketch, although it's from a different angle:
http://www.davelgil.com/boe/backgrounds/dogwalkext.gif
This location also needs day and night verions.
Lastly is the park itself:
It doesn't have to be so wide, although that arch and lamppost should be there
two photos were used for reference:
http://www.weaponofcreation.com/files/BoE/photo230a.jpg
and
http://www.weaponofcreation.com/files/BoE/photo230b.jpg
only daytime needed for this one.
And, lastly, the Brooklyn Bridge!
This photo used for reference (the scaffolding wouldn't be in the BG):

Please contact me at dave@davelgil.com or PM me on the forums if you are interested. Thanks!

Hi all,
I managed to snag a BG artist, but I am in need of a little bit more help. :)
There's a tiny role that could use some voicing. It's not big. Maybe 10 lines or so. Anyone interested PM or email me, and send some voice samples if possible.
Thankyee,
-Dave
P.S. There are only two days left to snag your free copy of the Shivah soundtrack with your Blackwell pre-order. So if you've been thinking about doing it, now's the time.
Looks and sounds absolutely amazing.
I'd lend you my voice if it wasn't so.. erh, bad.
Can't wait to see this completed :).
I really wanted to apply to do a male voice for you, but you never replied to my 2 emails offering to do background art, even if it was just to say "No thanks." Oh well.Ã, :(
Being out of the loop slightly... what is/was BoE?

Two emails? I never got any. :( At least, none from "nloprinzi@casinternet.net". I apologize for that.
Anyway, thanks to everyone who auditioned. I'm sorry if you didn't get the role, but I'll be doing other projects in the future so I'll keep you in mind.
Awww, why didn't I read this before? I've always dreamed of voice acting :(
Oh well, better luck next time :)

I applied to your 'dave@davegil.com' email about doing background art along with 3 large samples. Then I emailed it again asking if you got the first one.
I used my real name in the emails. Please check again. It was November 18 when I had applied. And I used the email you mentioned. Maybe it got lost in Cyberspace?
Just a wild gues, but some e-mail accounts, cannot hold large attachments... Maybe the 3 samples were too big???
Anyways, Dave this looks like a superb game and well done, along with my wishes... :)
No, Locutus, you got the email address wrong. Look closely, there's an 'l' in there.
That's a common mistake. I originally wanted "davegil" when I signed up for a hotmail account way back when, but it wasn't available so I stuck my middle initial in there. The name stuck ever since.
Actually Vince Twelve I had clicked on the link in his 'needing a background artist' post and sent my messages. But then I guess I got it wrong on my reply earlier, sorry about that. Also I apologize to Dave Gilbert, I'm not trying to flame your topic. Sorry about any confusion it caused.
Well anyway if anyone needs an artist for a game let me know. I work very fast and I have many samples of background art and animation sprites.
And now for some more bits of news.
Those of you who don't want to pay for the game, here's your chance to get the game for free!
From today (December 1st) until the game is released (December 16th), I am hosting a little fanart contest.
Email or PM me a drawing, sketch, or visual representation of any character from The Shivah or the upcoming Blackwell Legacy. The top three entries will win a free copy of the game. The three runners-up will receive a free copy of the soundtrack. Every other entry will receive a consolation prize. NOBODY will leave empty-handed!
For more details, check out the website.
The game looks superb, cant wait to give it a try!
Ill have a go at the contest too.....
Some more news: Recently I had the chance to do an interview with Dave talking about game creation, New York and of course about "The Blackwell Legacy".
The interview is now available for download (PDF) on my blog (http://klaus.schlichter.de/2006-12/interview-mit-dave-gilbert/) - simply click on the teaser image there. An additional note: The first two pages of the document show the original interview in English, the pages 3 and 4 offer a German translation of it all. So it's also kind of a special for German Dave Gilbert fans :)
Enjoy! Comments on the blog are of course also welcome :)
From my blog:

So… ugh.
After two weeks of late nights, little sleep, insane schedules, too much coffee, lots of stress, and bug report after bug report after bug report, I finally had to face up to the inevitable. There is no way this game will be ready for release in three days.
I've whittled down the bugs to a bareable amount, and the game is very much playable. However, with three days left to go there is not much room left for testing, so I've decided to delay the release by one week.
I just posted the announcement on the Wadjet Eye site, and so I figured I'd take the opportunity to whine about it on my blog here. I know that I don't like to get angsty on this site, but since this is news that effects everybody I figured I am slightly justified.
One week isn't alot, true, but I still feel like I lost a personal battle. I have never missed a deadline, and it kills me that I've missed the most important one. Recently, my name has popped up on Reuters, and CNN.com, and all sorts of high-traffic places that have sent people to my site by the truckload. I felt like the world was watching me and the pressure was incredible. I couldn't miss my deadline, and yet… if I have to make a choice between making my game good or making it on time, the choice is obvious.
I just hope I didn't disappoint anybody. Rest assured, the extra week will make all the difference.
I have always been a big fan. I loved Two of a Kind and The Shivah, and I've been waiting for this game since first playing the Bestowers of Eternity demo. But this one week delay is unacceptable. How dare you? I am through with you and with your games. Consider my pre-order canceled!
:P
Just kidding. Quality AGS game delays aren't measured in weeks, they're measured in fractions of a decade (*cough*QFG2VGA*cough*). This tiny extra wait will just make the game all that much sweeter to play during the holidays.
Get some sleep, man!
