I am proud to present:

After nearly a year of development (actual development started on the 30th June 2002, so a year minus three weeks), the demo of The Case is finally ready for public release. You can grab the files from the official website (click on the logo) or there are links further down this post.
The game is a mystery thriller in the style of the Broken Sword games, and will probably end up being about half as long as one (I am aiming for 5 hours). It's got a varied and exciting plot (maybe a biased view there) and plenty of characters and puzzles. I'm aiming at over 40 locations, and at the rate I'm going at at the moment it may end up being quite a few more - I've been underestimating the number of locations required in each act. Let's throw out a feature list:
Over 40 locations
Two playable characters (at different stages in the game)
Fully voiced using as many members of the community as I can fit in there
An awesome musical score (thanks to Archangel)
CG Rendered backgrounds
A deep plot which I wouldn't want to spoil for you
A case
If there are any things anyone thinks I should add to this page, or you feel like volunteering your voice or kind words, just reply to this thread or email me :)
[edit] well, this is strange... i'm wondering if anyone Can help me with a phone number... well, i think it's something like a phOne number. anyone know where this is from or anything? It was in an email about my game, so i think it may have been scrambled a bit... anyway, if you recognise an area or country coDe or something, by all means pm/email me :) thanks... here's what camE through.

[edit] The demo of The Case is finally available, with plenty of music, CG rendered backgrounds and over 500 speech files. So here we go... the link is below, and if you enjoy the game, please do comment either by email or by replying to this thread :) Incidently, don't forget to read the Readme to get a heads up on the controls, and yes, this is my first publically released AGS game.
The Case Demo Complete (http://www.agsforums.com/games.php?category=5&action=download&game=235) (includes both game files and speech pack)
Have fun!
Wohoo! Rich and successful :D
Anyway, this is looking great. I love the scenes (It looks like BS!), and the easteregg I found among the screenshots. Can't wait to finally play it!
Some critics though... :P
The secretary looks too flat.
that's all! Keep this baby rolling. :)
Wow, looking great! I think this game is going to be something good :)
Oh, by the way, I could be one of the voice actors (if you need more actors)
Omg I can't wait! Not least because I'm writing the music for this baby... gonna be cool, evolvi :)
QuoteAn awesome musical score (thanks to Archangel)
You know you shouldn't say stuff like that around me ^_^
:o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o WOW!!!!!!!!!!
Glad you like the look of it... So what does everyone think about the idea of releasing the demo much after it's completed, so that it's closer to the final game? Is that a good idea, or would people prefer to see it asap?
ASAP damned!!!
I'd rather play it soon if you've finished it. It'll just make more people want to play the end game :)
It'll probably make the waiting worse though ._.
Okay, I'll consider it. Once the demo's complete, I'll give it out to everyone who's participated in the project so far and I'll ask them what they think I should do/change with the demo :) You never know, it may not be far off.
Hey evolve, I saw something weird on The Case website... any ideas what that would be?
Oop... you weren't supposed to see that... I was testing something and didn't realise it was with the live site... It's for an update (not the game release, but something related) that will become apparent very shortly.
[edit] I've had to delete the rest of my post through the recommendation of one of my collegues. It was infact just information about a new screenshot that was to be posted, but now will not be.
eVOLVE, can I be one of the voice actors?
Most probably, yes. Just email an mp3 sample of your voice(s). (James@brokenpipefilms.com) and I'll see if there's a character that you fit :) If not, it's likely that I can write in some kind of small role for you in the full game.
Cheers :)
eVOLVE, sent you my files.
eVOLVE, hows the game going?
The Demo is now here... but of course you could have guessed that from the first post in the thread :) Look up there for info... oh, and make sure you get the speech pack and read the readme.
I reccomend this demo not only because I am in it.. But because it is quite possibly one of the best AGS demos I have seen!
Very professional! I can't wait for the final release!
Get this demo. It pwns.
I don't know what 'pwns' means but if it's good then I wholeheartedly agree. This demo rules!
eVOLVE, what you have so far is fantastic. This is one of the most polished AGS demo's I've ever seen, so if you can pull off this kind of quality for the whole game, you'll have something great on your hands. Best of luck and keep up the good work.
veryweirdguy, I think it's just a typo and he meant it owns. This is going to rock. downloading demo...
i just love it, eVOLVE,
Keep it up,....
i''ll be expecting this one for sure!!!!!
agsking: no, it wasn't a typo, I was being 1337. Observe:
Owns

p0wns
pwns
Oh, stupid me :) 1337 $P34k 4 EVA!
Wow! Awesome demo eVOLVE.
It was very well done and very thorough. The sound effects were incredible and the animations and art is very nicely done!
I can't wait for the finished game or another demo ;)
Holy crow.
That was great.
Gorgeous graphics, nice voiceovers/dialog, and two clever puzzles. I like the intro bit with the train. Very nice. Also, that luggage carousel... wow. That looks mighty sweet.
Damn. You're making my game-in-progress look bad. :P
Looking forward to this one.
Played the demo: I'm impressed! I look forward to "The Case"'s completion. One thing though, a few items in the backgrounds for the office - ie. the desk, some chairs and the filing cabinets - are a little over proportioned and the main character looks a little small beside them. Nothing a bit of scaling couldn't fix, I imagine.
Other than that, great! Incidentally, my game-in-progress (as unnanounced) features a private investigator called Dave who has a secretary. Thankfully, the two games aren't even remotely similar other than that. Had me worried for a second, mind you.
Great game! I loved the voice acting, sound effects, story, art, everything! The only bad part is I don't get to play the full version :)
finally got around to downloading the demo, I love it. Not finished yet, but highly enjoying it. intro was very clever
Well, thanks for all the great comments, peeps... As I'm sure you're all aware, it's things like those that keep us all enthused and ensure we carry on with our projects :)
I've just ripped all of the demo specific stuff out of the game (end screen etc.) and have put in some new stuff... we're now mid Act 2 :) As for how many acts, I'm not sure, but we're talking about over 6... not sure how many I'll split the end bits into.
WOW! Very interesting indeed! Can't wait to play the full game!
Add my name to the list of people who can't wait to play the full game. It is one of the best I've seen in a long time. Will it be freeware or will there be a charge. No matter as I would readily pay for this game. It's that good folks.
Tnx :) I think it'll be freeware... I don't really consider that I should charge people for it... Then again, that doesn't rule out a cheap CD version available with extra goodies onboard or something, incase the full version is too large (including voices) to get everything from.
I'll have to wait a few days to play, but when I get home, I shall.
Indeed, a great game., nive voice acting to.
Only, I got stuck in the airport.
I need something for the sign to be on a reasonable height but I have no idea what that can be ?
If anyone can help, please do.
Spoiler
You don't need to make the sign a reasonable height, you need to make it stand up.. for that you'd need something about the same height as a sign.
okay, but i still have no idea what that can be ... :-\
Spoiler
What closer to the same size as a sign is there, than another sign?
Finally played it... I'm impressed! I love backgrounds, especially the train station one. Voiceacting is good and music wonderfull. Only thing I didn't like so much were the characters. They didn't fit very well to the backgrounds... but other than that, it's great!
Oh man, I just finished it, this demo is sweet! The really fast cutoff to credits suddenly really made me want the rest of the game. This was very well done, aswell as everything else. Loved the Bonuses :)
This is a really well polished game- the art, music, dialogs, plot, puzzles and voice acting are all superb :)
When will we be able to experience the full thing?
Undetermined at the moment... It does take a rather lon time to produce because of the CG backgrounds and various other issues that should be a nice surprise in the final game, but I now have a little help with backgrounds that should speed up production.
I wouldn't hold your breath, but an AGS Award for best demo could be the adequate motivation needed to ignore everything else in my life and just make this game ;)
Seriously, there's pimping and there's too much pimping.
I know what you mean ;)
How about a progress report?
eVOLVE:
Wow, this looks great... the only thing that might need improvement is character art. If you want I'd be happy to do some paint overs or something... not to good at character art from scratch, but I'm pretty good at adding detail to existing art. :-\
