This looks as great as your other games. I think you should make a timeline with the release dates of all your games.

Looks cool, I look forward to it. If you don't mind a little constructive criticism from a typography fiend, I would say that you should change the title logotype on the title screen to look as much as possible like the smaller version you have on the copyright screen which looks much, much better.
Title: Re:The Legend of Leitor's Edge (update for musicians)
Post by: Snake on Wed 14/05/2003 04:56:06
Yeah, I like the small version better aswell. At one point, I intend to recreate the title screen anyway since I've got a better idea.

To the MIDI musicians:
What I'm looking for in music is kind of complicated for me to explain. I tried explaining to Archangel, but I'm not sure he understands  ::) So I'll give it a go here:
What I'm looking for is soft music with a magical/dark/sinister twist. I'm picturing lots of bass. Nothing that sounds jazzish, polka-like or anything that would be in a comedy game (up-lifting & hippity-hoppity). I also think orchestraic and piano music would fit well, but the slow, dark kind. A good example would be "Moonlight Sonata". Also, like I told Archangel, one thing that would fit well for the neighborhood scene would be the beginning of a song called, "The Silent Acquiescence of Millions" by a band named "Sinch". The opening bass riff is very moody and I love the when the guitar comes in and the drum beat fits well too. So any music along that scale would be sweet. If you've never heard it, you might want to download it with KaZaA or something.

To the rest of you, THANK YOU for the interest, it's very motivating :) To let you know, the intro is about 40% finished. I'd post some screenshots, but I'd rather you see them first in the game ;)

I'm an idiot. I never played that game.
Where can I find some samples of the soundtrack? Are they MIDIs?

Archie, I got your e-mail...I'll download the mp3 soon.

Are there any more musicians who'd like to take a wack?
I'd love to hear everyone... M0ds, Trappy,....I know there's a lot of you fools reading this but your not saying anything!... it's not only sad on my part, but creepy (frightened emoticon).

Title: Re:The Legend of Leitor's Edge (update for MIDI musicians)
Post by: Snake on Mon 19/05/2003 18:54:05
Har har. It's coming along pretty good. During the intro, there's two portions...I'll call them intro1 and intro2. I've got intro1 finished. Intro2 is going to take a little longer since it's longer and the animations will be more time consuming to make. Intro1 is like a flash-back dealy...like a prologue thingy doo. Intro2 is present (Seth and his buddies on top of Leitor's Edge)...

But don't ask for screenshots ;)

It'll be ready in about 3 years.

Title: Re:The Legend of Leitor's Edge (update for MIDI musicians)
Post by: Snake on Fri 23/05/2003 05:00:25
Alright. I've got some bad news. I'm saying the hell with Leitor's Edge. I'd would rather not say why, but for once I'm going to tell the truth...since we all here are just a bunch of text. It's not like I'm ever going to meet you all anyway. Shit, most of you are from the UK for Christ's sakes. So here goes. I've been copying the story almost exactly from a novel called, "Riverside Edge" (it won several awards back in '98). It's pretty much the same thing as my so-called "original-for-once" game, but it's about being transported to another world after plunging into its water. I'm sorry. To tell the truth, those screenshots aren't even by me. They're by PeeWee Herman actually. And ofcourse with me saying that, you've figured out that I am lying about the whole "Riverside Edge" book stealing shamangle. Har har! You fell for it! You imbecilic fools!
Here's the real update: Just for a while I'm going to stop worrying about the intro and start working on the game itself. I said before about how I would never finish the intro if I started the game. Well, lately I haven't done anything with the intro. So I'm going to start the game so something is being done. I've made a conciderable amount of progress with the "Leitor's Edge Story Map" that I'm doing. All I'm doing is organizing all the branching points and events. It looks like a Choose Your Own Adventure Book. You can actually read through it choosing your way. Anywayz, good luck with all of your games

And thank you, Stalky  I'm hurrying damnet!

My heart sank when I read that first paragraph, you little joker!

I remember the Choose Your Own Adventure books, they were a lot of fun to play when I was little. I used to have 2 Sonic ones and a bunch of the fantasy ones (I remember one about 'Darkwood Forest' or something). It's the same kind of appeal as adventures, much fun.

BTW, the 'story map' thing is a great idea. I jumped into my first game without proper planning and it kind of fell apart. With my new game, I'm planning out all the puzzles and stuff and it feels much more structured and I'm more confident it'll work out.

Looking forward to it...

Riverside Edge...lol...

CHECK THE ANNOUNCEMENTS FORUM FOR THE FULL GAME!!1!!!11

Progress is coming along well. The animations for the neighborhood scene rock...simple, but rock. They add just the perfect touch. I'm going all out on this one me thinks. So far I've put my all into everything. The intro sequence started to slack artisticly, so I'm taking a break like previously said.

I'm thinking of not releasing the intro. If I say I'm going to release it, it'll never be finished and this game will be doomed forever. And second of all, the whole damned plot/reason for Seth's being might change...it's not 100% solid sure yet...things are still kicking. Most of the game is just being shotgunned as I go, but it's pretty cool so far. I'm sure at least 1 person (besides myself) will enjoy it.

Bravo, Snake!  I really love the way your mind works!

I like the "choose your own adventure book" idea... I remember those things, everyone else thought they were stupid... "Gorga the Space Monster" was my fav (in 2nd grade that is).

This will be another creation of yours that I am looking forward to.  ;D
Title: Re:The Legend of Leitor's Edge (update for MIDI musicians)
Post by: Snake on Wed 28/05/2003 04:28:47
Progression, progression...the anticipation thickens...
I could be half finished and you guys wouldn't even know... ;)
Just after the gameplay begins and you take control, there are 7 branching points I've made. Heh, the replayability on this game is going to rock.
I think I'm as excited about this game as you guys are...  8)

Anyway, my ALL-TIME favorite Choose Your Own Adventure Book is "The Mystery of Chimney Rock".

--EDIT--
Just to clear things up to anyone that might be confused about the whole "Choose Your Own Adventure" idea. Don't think that the whole game is just one big CYOA book. It's just like any other adventure game, but there are several different times where you'll be given a choice on what to Say or Do. You'll decide. And when you are given a list of like 3 things to say or do, of course you'll only be choosing once and the game continues from there. The moment you've chosen which path to take, there's no turning back...
Before I start confusing myself, I'll leave you all alone.

Post by: Snake on Thu 12/06/2003 04:47:26
Hey guys, it's been a while since I've updated, so here it is.

[UPDATE]
I really haven't made that much progress lately AGS-wise...you know, the physical stuff. Except I got the GUI and interface pretty much wrapped up.
I've figured before I start getting into the physical work, I need to finish the story map, at least where there are major branches that take place (ie; Seth being hauled off to jail or breaking into his "mothers" house). I'm going to treat them as ACTS as I go along and I'll program as I finish them individually. It's pretty cool, there are now 8 branching points after Seth reaches home. About 4 aren't totally completed, but will be soon.

[Interface]
A white arrow is used as the pointer and it changes red when over an exit. Right clicking will change it to a magnifying glass which will of course be used to examine items/objects in the location. The player will move Seth around in the scene using the arrow keys. Gameplay starts at 8:15pm and the player has until X:XXpm to complete the game.
The main gui has the following options (some might be added later if needed):
Interact/Take
Climb Up/Down
Open/Close
Speak to
Inventory
Pause Game
Options
About
Cancel

During the course of the game, Seth (you) will be making choices (like a CYOA book) that may alter future events, while picking up items and solving puzzles to reach your destination.

[New Musician]
The musician for Leitor's Edge will be Marcus Krupa (musician for Ignac 2). He is very talented and his music has inspired me to use mp3 music instead of MIDI. It makes the atmosphere 200% more involving. The downside though is file size. But that'll be a seperate download anyway.

[Recruting Leitor's Edge Story Crew?]
Be on the look out for me asking you to join the project. I may need help in the future with organizing events and fixing plot/storyline holes. I think at one point I'll hold some sort of contest. I'll have you write me some ideas and what you think would happen in this story, and whos story fits best with my ideas, I will pick to join. Maybe I'll even recrute more than one, not sure yet.

[Screenshot For The Hell of It]
It's the original screen I showed above, but I completed the final touches. You might want to save it to your computer and zoom in a bit, it's a little dark and hard to see on the forums.
Click the triangle on the left to bring up the Main GUI. The little watch icon on the right constantly displays what time it is.

Here's a pic of Seth's normal view.

Thank you for reading,

Title: Re:The Legend of Leitor's Edge - (6.19.03 - Update & New Member)
Post by: Snake on Sat 21/06/2003 08:50:53
Vel - What I'm doing is, for every minor thing that I get finished with the Story Map before any major events (which is just a few branching points away), I'll start scripting and doing AGS stuff. After I get that finished up to the point where the story map ends off, then I'll start work on the story map again, do the major points, script, story map, script, story map, script...see?

Rincewind - It all depends on if you'd really like to join the project. It's not a matter of just "helping out with the story", it's joining the team and helping out all together and working as a TEAM...but not a disorganized team. All basically we'd be doing is tossing e-mails around, throwing ideas/suggestions at eachother and when the project gets farther along, beta's will be distributed. I'll be doing all the art and scripting, so you guys don't worry about that. Squinky is also helping with the scripting.
I'd like to have a special beta testing team besides us though, so they can pick out all the crap we miss :)

Vel, I was wondering if you'd be interested since you said you'd help out before? Or what....?

Team Status:
Snake  - Lead Programmer - Artist - Story/Plot Manager (what the hell do you call that?)
Squinky - 2nd Lead Programmer - Story/Plot Manager
Marcu Krupa (Loominous) - Musician

The two basic things that I need help with are:
*The over-all story thoughout the whole series (was originally going to be 1 big game, but I've decided to chop it into 3)...
*Events during the game - like mini games, mini missions, shit Seth gets into...

How many people worked on the project?

How long did it take?

What inspired you to make this game?

Approximately how many hours gameplay?

Can we have a sneak preview of the type of puzzles found in this game?

Quite naturally, this leads to my next question, can I come and live with you?

QuoteHow many people worked on the project?
Currently there are 5 people working on it:
Me
Squinky
Rincewind
Vel
Loominous - Original Soundtrack

QuoteHow long did it take?
It's not done yet.

QuoteWhat inspired you to make this game?
That's a good question. Years ago during school, I was helping a friend out with a writing assignment. She had to come up with an original idea and write a short story. It had to include a golden harp though. So I came up with this idea where this magic harp sat next to a small pond in some uncharted area in the woods. The main character stumbles upon this harp looking for his lost dog. He ends up strumming a few notes. The water started to bubble slightly and being curious, the main character gets in the water and swims under to see where it was coming from. But instead of hitting bottom when he merged into the muck and seaweed, he mysteriously hits air and surfaces in another world...which is very similar to what happens in this game.
So the portal in the water idea originated from this story.

Another thing that inspired this game would be some desktop background I had for a while that I put on there from the internet. It was just a simple picture of the sky with the stars over the ocean. The color was a mix of black and blue with the sun just dissapearing completely, it was awesome. I love stars anyway to begin with. I found myself from time to time just staring at it...it gave me a feeling of escaping and just getting away from everything, being alone and relaxed with no cares...almost as if I went to another place and never had to come back. I wish I saved that picture, it was great.

The Legend of Leitor's Edge is a combination of my dreams, fantasys, fears and imagination.

QuoteApproximately how many hours gameplay?
It's not done yet.

QuoteCan we have a sneak preview of the type of puzzles found in this game?
It's too early to tell, but you can expect:
Riddles
Action Sequences
Few waiting puzzles
Time Limit
Traps/Dropping items in specific places
Combining inventory items with others
Maze Puzzles - Would making decisions that branch the story and alter future events be considered a kind of maze puzzle?

QuoteQuite naturally, this leads to my next question, can I come and live with you?
Most definately.

Post by: Snake on Thu 21/08/2003 02:58:25
I'm not sure. It's hard to tell. 2 major factors:

1. The game's resolution is 320x240 which is small, but the game is in highcolor (can't be arsed to learn how to deal with palettes to make it 256, but I like the more graphics options you get with using high color.

2. The soundtrack will consist of all MP3 music. I plan on the music being a seperate download, so doing that should help with file size.

Something else that'll take space is WAVs, which will of course be used for SFX.

Post by: evilspacefart on Thu 21/08/2003 09:03:20
Yo, Snake. Here's the quick easy answer to using 256 color palettes.

right click and save the picture below as a bitmap BMP.

load your game in ags.
go to palette screen and set game to 256 color.
select a range of slots (select the first open color slot and hold down shift to choose the last slot)
uncheck this color is room dependant.
select import slots from file. select the palette BMP. (you should now have colors in some slots.) select the remaining slots and make them as room dependant.

the hard part - you might have to re-import your graphics in sprite manager. you might also have to decrease their color depth to 256 color (8-bit) with a graphics program first.

this will, however, reduce that filesize dramatically.

just a suggestion.  hope it helps, i know i hated palettes before i used this wierd procedure.

Written by a certain R. Sparrow? :)

I was reading your start post again, and suddenly it felt very reminiscent of Donnie Darko... book about the subject, disturbed teenager finding out what it's about, etc.

Keep working on this one, dangit! :)

I think I can saftly say that I have no idea what you are talking about :) I'll look up this Donnie Darko in a minute and see what it's all about. Like I said previously, this game is non inspired by anything but my own thoughts/dreams. So any simularities to movies and books are coinsidental. I'm one of the "low educated" AGSers...lol. I've only read a few books in my time ;)

Yes, you heard right. The prologue is lengthened! Now you can read on and find out just a tad bit more of what happens after Seth jumps. Go to first post to reread the story.

Now for the Update
Well, this is unfortunately bad news, but if it makes sence, good news aswell.
Lately I've been pondering on what I'm going to do with the backstory/storyline. LE's not giving me the same feeling as it was when I first created it...so I'm searching for that again. Right now what I'm trying to do is think of where I originally planned for this game to go...why I was inspired to make this game, and go back to my LE roots I suppose. I'm trying to figure stuff out for myself at the moment. So I want to let you all know that LE isn't cancelled, it's just haulted team-wise until I get my personal issues right.
I had originally planned not to say anything to the public and just lock this thread, but I recently figured that it would be best to leave it open, but at least give a "final" update before going dorment. Because there are those few out there that are looking forward to this game, and I thank every one of you.
LE will be better in time.

Oh yeah, Monkey Wrench looks awesome but I think The life of Marty Shore has some unforgettably well done animated graphics. It looks like something Sierra would produce somewhere in 1996 or 1997 when Space Quest 6 was a well animated game.

But of course, that all waits for the future...right now, The Legend of Leitor's Edge is the biggest anticipation!!!

Monkey Wrench looks fun too but I wanna play LE more!!

IMPORTANT TEAM NEWS: I thought of making LE officially and ultimately a solo project (besides Marcus' soundtrack) and then go absolutely silent until it was done. Mainly because I was frustrated with myself and the fact of how I'm never happy with anything I do (nothing to do with teammates). And being that picky about my thoughts and ideas only slows me down. I can never do anything simple. It always ejaculates into a gigantic shit ball.
So, with what I'm about to say, I have thought it over quite a bit the last month or so. I'm happy with my decision but at the same time I feel like a total ass. I'm deciding to keep only two people from the team (besides Marcus). Before I go on, I want you to know that I'm not just picking two people and "shit-canning" them. I thought about it over and over. It's hard because these two people are awesome with their work and good to work with as well. But at the same time, so are the other two. So before I say who's let go from the team, please bare in mind that I tore my ass out thinking of who to keep and there is also a reason behind it.
Spoiler
Person one:
Velislav. Vel was my Character Development guy. I wanted him to help me keep my character's personalities and states of mind in order and the way they are effected throughout the course of the game. I'm deciding to let you go, Vel, because even though you are a great mind and know exactly what's going on and have more than just an understanding of how shit should work (and you deserve more respect than what you get around here sometimes), I really don't think I need a person for this area. I already know how to deal with Seth's head and how he'll react to particular situations when/if they happen. I really don't need a person for Character Development. Since I'm not going to have a spot for CD in the credits, would you like to be a beta tester?
Person two:
Yufster. Yuffy is an excellent writer and a hell of a storyteller. You all know that. Yuff, I'm deciding to let you go because, in actuality, you had joined the team just before I decided to go silent with my whole "finding my LE roots episode" and I never ended up making another LE list. Yuffy, you did an awesome job on the backstory idea. So you will be mentioned in the opening credits for doing half, if not more than half, of the backstory. I don't feel I need more than Rincewind and I doing the main storyline.
Rincewind: I decided to keep you because for one, I had you from the start and you seem more dedicated, motivated and right on the ball with where I want to go with Leitor's Edge. You've come up with some ACE shit, man.
Squinky: Like I told you on MSN the other night, you are still my scripting bitch. Whenever the hell I get confused and don't know what the fuck I'm doing, which will be 80% of the time, that's when you fly in through my window with your Pirate Fry costume on and make sweet sweet love to my keyboard.

With all this said and done, I'm probably the biggest asshole right now, eh? I can expect it. I really don't want any hard feelings from my decisions. I think that with only 2 people doing the storyline it'll be more organized and this game will finally eventually be finished and released, horrible or not. Look at it this way: When LE bombs and everyone thinks it's shit, be happy you got out early ;) I don't know, maybe I'm making too much of a big thing out of this. Is it really a big deal to you guys whether you're on or not? I mean, I'm kinda talking like I'm the head of a big corperation when all it is is a freeware adventure game that'll never even be finished (with my luck)...
[close]

LEITOR'S EDGE NEWS:
3.14.04 - Cheers to a new LE I suppose. Don't know yet whether to be happy or disgusted with myself. Maybe I'll pull a Yatzee and just get the fuck outta here, build a website and go on by myself, never letting anyone here know my games are done. But why the hell would I do that anyway? Throw them red dice in that weird smelling cup and jiggle me out, jackass!!
Alright. It's been way too quiet for LE. You guys want to know what's going on?
Welp, here are the most important aspects:
The Backstory: 100% finished
The main storyline: I'd say about 75%
The Beginning Sequence Script (before major branching points): 98%

The beginning of Leitor's Edge is very much like a choose your own adventure book, obviously. So far there are 13 branches that lead to different outcomes and 3 branches that lead to the same outcome but of course you learn different information with each. No THE END branches yet. There will be BAD ENDINGS, but no nonsense deaths. There will probably be a couple deaths, but during the ending.
I'd really like to start some art, but I'm gonna be good and wait until the storyline is waxed the hell up. I've got Squinky on the concept art side for some characters. I've drawn up a concept art of Seth and another one with Nick and Gary (names are subject to change). Here's the Seth one:

I know it's not much, but it's something. At least you know what he looks like anyway. I would show you the script for the beginning but I can't reinstall my printer/scanner/copier since I lost the goddamned install CD!! FLARGH!! Damned system restore! I also finished the neighborhood BG...well, I still might add more from time to time since I can't leave anything alone. Save it and enlargh it to notice the changes:

I guess that's it for right now...
So as soon as I get to it, Rincey, you'll be getting the new LE half-arsed outlining of the final storyline.

Thanks everyone for the support.

Vel and Yuffy. I feel better about it now, since you seem pretty cool about it. It was great to have you guys a part of the team, but now I'd rather keep it simple.

UPDATE:
The script for the opening of the game is finished (remember that I'm talking about the playable opening, not the intro. The intro has been finished for while now...never got around to updating). As soon as I finish the outline for the new storyline I'll send it and the outline to Rincey so he can put his magic into it. We should have the storyline squared away soon after we put our minds together. It's already about figured out.
The opening scene has changed from the original (a couple more branches added last night) and the storyline has changed. Who Seth encounters in the begining is a suprise ;)
I also added a Game Progress section in the first post.

Nice of you to keep me, though, Snake - It was a long time since I got any LE-stuff, so I'll be more than eager to get back into plotting and helping with the story again. Just send me a mail and I'll be answering...

You were warning about getting too many members. You were right about that, I should have just stuck with Rincewind and Squinky from the start.

But let's not get off topic. Stick to the game and how much it's gonna slap nothing's ass :P

Rince, while I'm here:
You'll probably get the stuff soon, like within the next day or so. I haven't had much time between work to polish it up and having connection problems.

Search the internet for the song "Winterland" by Tor Linloken, it was a song used in TLJ played from a jukebox.  I think this song might be right on the money for what you were looking for and its pretty cool.

Stuh & Davis: Thank you for the ideas for that music, but there will be original Leitor's Edge music being composed by Marcus Krupa (Loominous) ;)

Rincewind: Man, I need to get back to ya. I've really been having shitty problems with my connection lately. Plus hotmail doesn't work for me half the time again. Also I've been working on a little action game for fun since, well, LE is causing more stress than anything ;)

Your idea about the woods is good, we'll do that. One thing though that we gotta figure out is when all these different events take place. Like for example, during the beginning there is a branch where Seth definately ends up running into the woods and hides out for a few minutes. He could encounter those people there, but the information can't be too informative, since he shouldn't get all of it at once...it needs to be gradual during the whole game. You know what I'm trying to say? So there's got to be numorous places during these varying branches where he learns the same information, but in a different way and/or gets only bits of it at a time.

Yeah, I get your point - Instead of giving out huge hunks of info at one point, we give small pieces at various places... :) Good idea.
I've also got some dialogues coming up right now, I'll write them down and then send them to you, ok?

Yeah, I really need to switch back to my old ISP, this one totally sucks ass...I mean, if it's not letting me on at all, it only let's me on for (and literally, I did a little test) 1:21 seconds sometimes at the most. The best times to stay on withought more than 1 or 2 disconnections is very late at night...like right now, damnet!! :)

Title: leitors edge
Post by: Snake on Wed 08/02/2006 02:13:00
Hello, everybody.
I wanted to give those of you waiting for the release of leitors edge a quick progress report.
It's been dormant for quite some time. I want to assure all of you that it is NOT canceled. Someday you will see the first part of this game.

There have been complications in the past with certain aspects of the game's story, and they don't seem to want to stop. I thought everything was pretty much ironed out and I was ready to send Rincewind his first update in months, but recently for the first time I tried explaining everything about the game's character's, the storyline and backstories to my girlfriend and discovered a few quirks. SHIT! You never really notice things that count until your ideas become verbal. OUCH!

So here's my plan. If these things can't be worked out between Me, Rincewind and a little help from my girlfriend, then I plan to start fresh.

Rincewind, I'll get the update to you very very very very soon. It's like 95% ready.

Anyway, once we get going again and while I'm waiting for Rincewind to get back to me, I'll be working on either the storyline to MoNKeY WReNCH or THE END, or maybe both. Those two games are a little less of a cluster fuck to work on ;)

A little advice to anybody who hasn't released jack shit like me yet: Nobody has ever been more right than Andail regarding adventure game developers.

--EDIT--
For the longest time I had quoted him in my signature, but I forgot I had recently changed it.
What he said pretty much stated, "Don't promote your game so early on in the developement stage or it'll never see the light of day."

I'll have to find it, I know I saved it when I changed signatures.

--EDIT 2--
Here it is:
Quote...it's commonly known that a curse strikes those games which are exposed to public before they have even started to take shape...
Andail

So the ledgend of the lagoon monkey, found near the fountain, will be released around 2175? ;D

Looking good Snake. Hope you finish with it.

A Question: Would the Marcus who writes music be someone who is also very good at graphics? And if so, would you be able to post a sample of his music, please? It is accustomed anyway to post screenies, so why not a small mp3?

About the game. It looks highly interesting as a plot and the graphics seem also intriguing.

Very curious and very anxious I am... Looking forward.

I'm sure that my Marcus and your Marcus are the same... he's known as Loominous here, or was.
When I get a few minutes and my connection doesn't mess with me I'll upload the song that'll be played during the "neighborhood scene". I'll have to ZIP it though, since I've got dialup. It's beautiful and fits the atmosphere perfectly.

Here's a note to you all:
I posted the update in the talk and chat forum since I locked this thread, but it's been merged and unlocked so you can post your replies here. I originaly locked this thread because of the lack of productivity and quantity. I just want to let you know that the first post is out-dated and will be changed. I've also noticed grammar and spelling mistakes... FLARGH!

Rincewind, if you're reading, I sent the update to you finally this afternoon. I hope you enjoy.

I gotta go for now, but I'll see about that MP3 and updating the first post.

Thanks everyone for the support, eventhough it can get very discouraging at times with specific things, it won't be given up on, I assure everyone that.

Goodnight,

Before I forget, is Marcus still around? I've lost his e-mail...

Pete, remember that thread with all those games?? Ha! I had forgotton about posting that thread. I thought I was going to some how magically make all those games at once, har. If anyone's an assnut around here, it's me. I had posted about The Life of Marty Shore, MoNKeY WReNCH, Evil Night, The Legend of Leitor's Edge and The End. I doubt anyone remembers The End ;) I'd like to finish all these games at one point - the one's that seemed to get more attention and interest from not only the community but myself, were LE and MW.
The End is just below MW. Evil Night is still an interest, but I've lost the gusto for it the last few years. Marty Shore I'd still like to complete someday as well.

Anyway, LE will definately be the first release and MW won't be very far behind it.

Ah, shit, way too ahead for me to think about right now anyway ;)

LE UPDATE:
Not much of an update, but tonight I'm writing up the new endings. Yesterday, I think it was when I sent Rincewind the update, I was writing the current ending down to complete the document, and a better version back-handed me across the side of the head.

Alright, this Assnut's gotta go,

Goodnite everyone!

I guess since it's already been bumped, I'll give a quick update for you.

3.5.07
Abandoned? Hell no. LE is still in the making.
No new physical work has been done with it in AGS yet. What Rincewind and I are doing before any of that takes place (again) is making sure everything is thought out as well as we can. I don't want what happened last time to happen again ;) In the beginning I was making this game on the fly, just throwing in random ideas and working on it in AGS. I got severly stumped so that's why there was a long period of silence.

The Legend of Leitor's Edge has changed a bit since the first posting, so I'm going to edit the first post and correct it. I'll edit this post when I've completed it.

Sergio, thanks for showing an interest!

Title: The Legend of Leitor's Edge - (7.21.07 - Dad's Progress Report)
Post by: Snake on Sat 21/07/2007 17:12:29
Hello, everyone!

I've updated the progress bar on the first post and moved it so it's the first thing you see on the first page. So, hopefully, you guys will be happy to see things progressing, slowly but surely.

My update is that I'm now on another burst of progress like I was a couple months ago. Besides being my daughter's daddy, I'm taking every opportunity I have and making it for this game. If it's not Leitor's Edge I'm working on it's my music.

As you can see from my Game Progress section I have made quite a bit of progress on the storyboard. It's now, at the least, 90% finished as opposed to 70% a while ago. When this reaches 100%, the puzzles will start to take over and when that's finished the game can be worked on in AGS and be finally DONE.

Last night I went through a minor depression about it since a few things in the game's story are a little rediculous when I really thought about them. But I honestly think that my problem is thinking too much into it. It is in fact a game, isn't it? If it brings you joy and excitement and keeps you entertained, what can be better for me?
I even went as far as quickly writing up an alternate version of the whole game.
I don't know whether it's laziness and not wanting to start all over or I really like the game how it is. And I do, don't get me wrong. It's come a hell of a long way since the beginning.
I guess what I want to say to you guys is this: When this game is finally released (in 2017) please don't give your hopes up that it'll be as great as all of you have hyped it up to be in your minds. I'm sure there will be a lot of questions as to what the hell I was thinking since some things might not make much sence. But hopefully these few things don't spoil it for you. I just hope the best of it comes out and is enjoyed by everyone.

Rincewind: I will be getting you a mail at one point in the near future to fill you in with the newest updates. It's coming along pretty well. Last night, before I started hating it ( :P ), I sat down and I just wrote. I wrote and wrote and wrote my ass off with lots of ideas and things for the scenes that weren't even close to being finished and got quite a bit done, so other than the second to last scene I'm very pleased.

I hope everyone is still awaiting this game. It's now starting to wrap up so be on the look out for that update that gives you the % of the game's actual progress until completed!

Splendid, just splendid, snake. This has been one of my most anticipated ags games for x years, glad to know this is being worked on.
Seeing as you're not making much progress with music, I'd be glad to help with a tune or two, if you want me to, when the time comes.

Snake, you motherfucker!

Good to see things are progressing! I'm still looking forward to this one, but I guess you already knew this.

Just a small, friendly advice. Stop remaking everything over and over again! I understand that you might want the game to be perfect when it's done, but it's good to know when to give up on certain things and move on. Otherwise you'll never get it done (especially when you're working mainly alone). Just look at me, I should know. I have abandoned so many promising (?) projects because I wanted them to be perfect, but it was just too much for me to handle, I ended up remaking graphics, storyline, music etc. After all, you can't spend ages on school assignments, but it's still possible to get grand grades!

Now finish the damn game!

PS. Hardily hoodily hoo. ;)

Question: Is this like the CHOOSE YOUR OWN NIGHTMARE SERIES? Cause those things rocked!!
BTW, does anyone by any chance have that series?
PS: I was also wrighting the story for a game of this type :| Now that I see you allready have one in production, I'll change the gameplay ideea. :P Anyway, the game sounds great and the graphics are really cool. Altho, judging from the fact that the game is a Chose Your Own Adventure, Interactive Movie style, it will probably take almost a year to make, so guess we will have to be pacient. ^^

Woah, I completely missed this one!  Looks excellent - I love the combination of a down-to-earth backstory and (possibly) the supernatural.  The artwork's impressive, too.

Hey, guys, thanks for the support. It's always good to hear from you!

Replay Value=Very High?
Yes ;) There should be at least 4 different ways the game will end at the actual end of the game, not counting the premature endings. Besides ending though, there will be different ways to go through the game. Like I've wrote to you before, the different choices that you make will change future events - so the middle/second half of the game won't nessisarily be the same every time you play.

The whole idea of the game and what happens to Seth is definately science fiction. The game deals with what we all wish we could do.

I'm planning on there being 3 parts to it so the first one released might not be spot on, but it's only the beginning anyway.

Mykayel: Never hered of the choose your own nightmare series, but it's something I'd love to look into!

Hammerite/MoodyBlues: Yeah, you guys missed this one ;) I first posted about it in 2002 I believe - where it was only an idea (at that point I was working on another game called Evil Night) - and first did this promo in '03. It's an oldie :P

Ah, good to see that the CYOA book format of playing is being put to work. This is sounding great.  ;D Keep it up, I would love to see the end results.

Dave Gilbert gave me a good idea in my When your game gets you down, what do YOU do? (http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/yabb/index.php?topic=31911.0) thread.

I'd like to get one person to take a look at this game for me and tell me what you think of it and if anything doesn't make sence at all. I'd prefer someone who can get back to me in a short amount of time. And preferably someone who may have a reasonable amount of sci-fi knoweledge.

Like Dave said, Fresh Eyes is what I'm going to like since you will be seeing it in a different way than I do, especially since I've been through this story a million times.

If anyone wants to do this, please PM me why you'd like to do this for me and/or discuss it here. As you may know already, I love hearing from you guys.

Thanks,

It seems like the AGS games with 'Legend' in their titles always look so tantalizing. It also seems like they never get released. :/

Really looking forward to this one even more now. But take your sweet time. REASON : If you just speed it up, the game will be ruined at about 40%. I mean just look at Fahrenheit (Indigo Prophecy), If you were to finish it, you would notice that at about 80% of the game, it begins to make sense, in an idiotic kinda way :( the whole Cyborg thing and the alien powers is pretty ridiculos. So just work on the game really hard, and don't forget to give more and more time to the story rather than graphics, because your current graphics look great so there is no need to improve them, but if the story gets boring, then the game will get boring. I sincerily hope that you will make a great game, and keep it free, because comercial games lead to greed and that spoiles the fun of the game :( but you should make a donate page for people who wish to financialy thank you for all your hard work ^^ Oh, and one last thing, DO NOT ACCEPT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HELP ON THE STORY UNLESS YOU TRULLY AND HONESTLY ENJOY THE IDEEA, some people get pretty pushy with "You should use this in your story.." when in fact it is you game not theiers. I see a lot of succes for this game you have started making so be pacient and take your time ^^ Good luck!

Just want to say that looking at the screenshots (which I guess are pretty old by now) I'm really looking forward to playing your adventure, so I hope you get the story finished and start working on the rest of the game.. Good luck ;)

Hi, Everyone,
I've got somebody to look my stuff over so I need to start writing up a document and send it along. Hopefully it's straight forward enough for him to understand, you know, since it takes me sixteen sentances to explain something when only three would have been sufficient ;)

Mykayel: Yes, Leitor's Edge will always be free.
Quote...Oh, and one last thing, DO NOT ACCEPT PEOPLE WHO WANT TO HELP ON THE STORY UNLESS YOU TRULLY AND HONESTLY ENJOY THE IDEEA...
I do love the idea for my game. I always have. But the whole point is to see the story through somebody elses eyes. I've been working on this story for so long now that I'm in the mood where it's hopefully still good enough. I loved it when I first started working on it, but now it's gotten so old to me that I just need some reassurance that it's still good.
Ha, I don't want to be the only person who likes it ;)

To further explain (there's probably no need), this person isn't joining the project if that's what you think. Hopefully he will give me a little boost in areas that might need it, things that I've overlooked because I've been working on it so long. And doing so, this will modivate me more to work on it more often, especially the parts that might need some extra care.

QuoteIt seems like the AGS games with 'Legend' in their titles always look so tantalizing. It also seems like they never get released. :/
Seems like it, doesn't it? I plan on this game not joining them :) If it ever does, then I had a fun time doing it.

MYKAYEL - look at the date of the last post on this.  Please do not dig up any more threads.

Snake - when you feel like posting an update well ... just unlock the thread and post an update :)
