... as a working title for a new game in production.
i'm the artist, and my brother (ryan landry, he's on these forums somewhere) is coding the thing.
it's a kind of mystery/suspense/thriller sort of game.
you play as henry parkes, starting the day as usual, getting up to go to work, but as the day goes on you discover something's wrong...Ã, ...and you're caught in the middle of something sinister.
mwah ha hahh!
ahem.
yup.
we're about 1/3 of the way through this one.Ã, i'm spending a damn lot of time painting backgrounds so we've got a good chunk left to do.
we're hopefully going to post a demo in the coming months, to get everyone drooling about this beast we're creating.
here's some screenshots to tide everyone over :

I can't see the screenshots. And the links are broken.
yeah.
i'm trying to edit the links (clicking on modify) with the anonymizer dealie, but it's telling me i've already submitted the post.
hmmmm.....
There ya go:

Lookin' awesome, man!
how'd yuh do it?
(i'm kinda shitty at this stuff, that's why my bro's doing the scripting etc....)
I copied your link, removed the anonomizer crap, and hit enter. The place where you were posting your picture doesn't allow direct linking like that, so you have to copy and paste. Then, I saved it to my computer, and uploaded it to my own place. I used my photobucket account, but it would have made much more sense to use

Use it, that's why it's there!
I love the art! I'm looking forward to playing the demo!
very nice, as is your deviantART :)
Are you thinking about changing that GUI's? I don't think they fit there!
Yeah, change the UI. The boringness of the GUI does not sit well with the awesomeness of the in-game graphics. Even a colour-change would be better. Rhis one just looks too....boring.Ã, ;)
oh yes, there's going to be some change in the gui.
not sure what we're doing yet. been toying around ideas of corkboards and tacked messages, and notebook papers and things like that.
we'll see what comes of it.
Looks interesting from what you've shown so far. And the artwork is fantanstic, you've got some great artistic talent there (wishes I could draw as good) ;)
Good luck with the project, and keep us updated on the progress from time to time.
I'll be hanging out for this game.
Looks great! Just make sure the story stays interesting :)
thanx mush folks ;D
the "story staying interesting" part is why we're always rewriting things as we go. keeping the player on his/her toes, as best we can. we've got a lot of good puzzles planned for this one too.
t.
damn that looks great.
you sead somewhere that you were spending very much time doing the backgrounds..
that really amases me that you could draw so well, i mean look at it, it is more then great, maybe perfect
looking really forward to download this
hey, thanks for the positive comments even though they're all about the graphics (so far) which i have nothing to do with other than "oooh, add a lamp" and "ooh, yeah, that's a nice lamp."
the first thing I made for the game was the GUI, actually, just to see if i could do it, so the current graphics on it are actually just place-holders made on production day 1 to test the functionality of it. As we progress with the story, ideas of a plot-suited GUI are popping up here and there and we're jotting them down. We're hoping to not have to "settle" with something since the GUI is visible throughout basically the entire game :D so it will most likely be one of the last components to be actually "finished."
And, to appease some folks out there (hee hee hee) there are keyboard shortcuts for all the GUI functions including up and down arrow keys to scroll the inventory, as well as optional mouse-wheel to do the same thing. But as a service to those who hate keyboard shortcuts :o they completely don't get in your way, you won't even have to notice them, haha.
Anyway, aside from the backgrounds taking a long time, the custom Save and Load GUIs are really NOT making my day, and the demo won't be coming out until i've debugged the shit outta those, and we're waiting on say...4-5 more completed BGs before demo as well. (don't hold your breath for a redesigned GUI at demo time)...
Just make the this grey shit more colorfull or only change the to some other color. And then your game will be perfect. LET THE RESPECT BE WITH YA!!!
awwwow! :o
you do the adventure game proud . . . i love the look of the game,
tho personally i dont like the inventory bar . . . but thats just cos im a sucker for the way lucasarts does em in monkey island and Day of the tentacle . . . ^^
I love the look of the character . . . and the way the two blend . . .
Do you do the art for the character as well?
AWwwidlovetobeabletodothis! >_<
but id be hopeless i think. ;_;
yeah, aside from a slight input story and puzzle-wise from our fellow adventure game obsessed cousin (who's actually the model for the player character) my brother tyler (ovid) does every scrap of art in the entire game, while i do the scripting and music, and we share duties on everything else (art concepts, story, puzzles, all that jazz). Thus, as a full length game with a few alternate branching ways of playing, it will take a long while to complete with just the 2 of us. But hopefully, it will make it that much better, as we're 2 of the pickiest people i know.
There was a month or so break in production, but we're back at it now, with renewed excitement and some good ideas for re-writes to polish up some of the more blandish areas of the story.
you need testers to make it go faster? If so, sign me up! ;)
hahaha. if only.
i'm sure you know that won't be help with the speed of the game's construction :P
but if we need any at some point, we may give you a message.
Hey, if you guys do end up assigning beta testa- er - testers, well....
*points at self*
Hey, my name's Ryan too! You can't go wrong! :D
Some of these images look like 3D models. Did you model some things in a 3D modeler and edited them later with a paint program or something?
Looks very, very good!
--Erwin
Nope. There are absolutely no 3D models of any kind used in this game. Everything was drawn from scratch in photoshop with some photo references and integration in a few places. Actually, the player character animations (so far, and probably all major characters later...) are based on video footage we took of "actors" acting out all the movements required in the game. So if you consider people to be 3D models, then i guess....sure, we used 3D models ;)
There's still a-lot-a-lot-a-lot-a-lot left to be done in this game, but as adventure game fanatics, we can assure you that it WILL get finished, it will just be a matter of time. I'm sure we will eventually need testers. We have some locally who we know personally who want to help out with it, and the few individuals who already asked will definitely be considered, and anyone else who wants to take a crack at it can post here or PM tyler or I. It will be awhile before we need anyone though, as we came across circumstances that have required a decent amount of re-writing (thankfully we hadn't already completed backgrounds/animations/puzzles/music for the parts that need to be changed). Anyway...that is......that.

ooh boys and girls......
sorry for the large gap in production time on this one. lots of real-life things get in the way of steady game production. grrrr... moving, working, not working, lack of internet connection, blah blah blah.
SO
as of the last week or two, there's been some full-steam-ahead story development and background painting, as well as some background character design, animation, implementation. we're hoping to have a proper demo available within a month or two, as long as time and lack of life-snags provide.
the atmosphere is getting darker, as are the graphics. evil is afoot.
One brother doing the art, the other doing the scripting and music...
That sounds so familiar...
:)
ovid:
Great graphics!
Count me in if you need beta testers.
In case you want to know, I helped fovmester to test Frank the Farmhand part2. You can contact him as reference.
The part of testing was to find any bugs and explain how to improve characters position/movements and I was amaze that my ideals got processed.

Just what I was thinking...
Please finish this game! The backgrounds look great!
Ovid? Hey Devart buddy. I'm sure you can count on me for testing. It's about time you showed you're backgrounds. ;) (Its night-wing/robin here btw.)
:o Thank you for dislodging my jaw...

Of course your ideas got processed. What use would beta-testers be otherwise? ;)
Just leave the GUIS alone because they look great for the game. Just forget their comments, it's your game remember. Some people should just let the creator create the game and post their comments about it in the CRITICS LOUNGE FORUM. Thank you.
Powell, you're one and a half steps away from a ban. Stop it now.
