Title: The Scout's story
Post by: MadReizka on Sat 06/12/2003 09:11:21
The Scout's story.

The Story
You are Brian Howley, a soldier in the Allied forces in WW2. You hate the war and want to get home as soon as possible. After too many of your friends has fallen in the battlefields, you make the final choice and do anything it takes to leave the battlefields, and go to home. Brian is no wuss, he just dont like war.

The basic plot in the game is going to combine tradegy of the war (you are going to need to shoot things in the game!!)  with hilarious (?!) comedy into a fine mix. And I am hoping that everyone will enjoy this.

Progress so far
Very little is done by the moment. The begining of the game where the enemy attacks first time is complete. And I have few ideas in my pocket that I am not sure will I make them to be in the game, so somekind of a progress prosents are not easy to say at this moment. But I will update this time to time.

Screenshots
Well not actually screenshots, just made bmps to png files :D
Ingame shots coming later

Well, that's quite interesting, will the needed shooting be made like some action sequences or just simple object interaction?

The plot and the "screens" are very good, so I'm looking forward to some demo.

Thanks, more screens coming soon.

The shooting will be made propably using both. I have one test room that I use to test the shooting.

Those graphics look good  :)

I, myself, can't say I'm one for war adventures, but that is just in my humble opinion, and since no one asked for it, I'll keep it to myself. Besides, the graphics look good enough to keep me intrigued, so the actual plot should fit nicely.

The only thing I'd warn against is mixing war themes with 'hilarious humour'. Subtle humour works fine; if it's topic related then even better, but trying to make war funny is (for me, at any rate) kind of belittling it's seriousness.

People dying isn't funny, unless of course it involves several gay men in a shower, a large tub of body chocolate and one overly-zealous banana split.

I don't mean to question your judgement - I have complete confidence that you will do it in good taste, and if you decide not to, then don't change just because you think I'm ratting on you [which I'm not ;-)].
Do what you do, and the suitable audience will find you. Just be careful not to make a mockery of the thousands of families who have been torn apart by bloody gunplay of war.

By comedy I did not mean as war being funny. As you said! I will do it with a good taste.
With comedy I mostly meant dialogs, funny characters, funny happenings.

And why mix ww2 and adventure? Well there is the 2 things that interests me a lot. WW2 is really interesting war so I decided to but it into this game. Not to mock anybody from ww2 or anything like that, no.

Thanks for the feedback Peter! :)

Looks cool, can't wait for a demo! I like the style of the graphics. Plus, WWII was always intrigued me (Thanks to an excellent History teacher).

Ah, eighth class history lessons, Finland's wars, world wars... and that load of videos... Hey, Indepence Day! Independence Day!

/me raises the flag and plays Finland's national hymn with a bagpipe (although he doesn't know how to play a bagpipe, rather then owning one)

Will he, for going AWOL, be hanged for desertion/treason in the end?

"I don't like war ... I'm going home!!" [/squeaky voice]

Haha ... this could be funny :)

Screenies look pretty good.  Any animations for us to look at?
