Post by: Dan_N on Sun 17/12/2006 12:19:52

Production Diary:
17.XII.2006 - Finished the title screen, and the first two backgrounds. Also started a GIP thread.
26.XII.2006 - Tweaked some of the graphics a bit. Made six more backgrounds. Got m0ds to do someÃ,  music :o . Redid the search engine page on the Explorer. Hope I've made up for the rather big pause between working on UQ ;D .
27.XII.2006 - Didn't do too much today, just revised the walkthrough (or story, if you want to call it that ;) ) of the game. I'm getting close to putting everything in AGS.
30.XII.2006 - Finished the demo.
31.XII.2006 - Wrote a readme and walkthrough for the demo. Feeling really lazy.
1.I.2007 - Started a mad dash to finish Update Quest today.
18:20 (6:20 PM) - So far, finished the first three days. Seven more to go.
19:20 (7:20 PM) - Finished five days. Five to go.
20:30 (8:30 PM) - Finished 7 days. Three to go.
21:00 (9:00 PM) - Finished scripting it. Shortened it a bit to 7 days. Beta is under tests and I'm waiting for music.
3.I.2007 - Ok, music, beta testing, everything's done. Started a thread in the completed games board.

An interesting idea, Graphics very much lack, but seeing that this is your first game attempt I won't pummel you down to the ground with critique :)

I wish you luck with your game, young man. :D

Hi Dan.
1. What's with Balcony? I *LOVE* Ted.
2. What's with graphic side? It could be better. I know you.
3. What's with music side? Why not use Winamp (or some mockery of it, say, WonPump)?
4. If you want me to help, you know what to do :)

p.s. Could you change your nick on the forums too? BOTH of you.

Same here, the style of the graphics isn't unpleasant, but I think you could at least work on the symbols a bit. And I'd be nice if the game was a little harder than "easy as pie".

FSi, I've cancelled On a Balcony 'cos it was shite and I didn't really like working on it.

Ok, so the graphics kinda suck, I'll try and work harder on the symbols, but I can't realyl be bothered to make nice ones.

Well, I guess the puzzles won't be THAT easy, but I like to depreciate things, so as not to get hopes up. (and the logical question follows: who's hopes?)

Ask someone to do them for you then!  ;)

I would, but I really want to make this on my own.

Then go on! Roger decided that, and thou shallst follow his order!

Greetings,
"The only one who's actually looking forward to see this completed"  ;)

I got told to post here so I am:

I don't really know what to say though as I already said everything on IRC. (This game looks quite ace.) I mean it is a pretty simple project and kudos for wanting to do the graphics yourself. (At least then a project might get completed.)

A neat idea I find.

Ok, I've seen some interest in it. So I'm announcing a demo. It'll probably be done really soon, 'cos I've got all the artwork I need. And I'm starting work on it right away.

Right, people, after about an hour or two of toiling I have finished a demo. In case you've missed the link for the demo in the first post, here it is again: http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/games.php?action=detail&id=828. Have fun ;) .

Nice demo, I really like the idea of the game, but found it a bit tricky and I wish it had been more typing for the players part to make websites.

Though nice demo,

This could end up being a really good game! :).

Thanks, Peder. Although I am no stranger to coding and scripting, I doubt I could be able to make what you want. I'll try and put more typing in the search engine, if you want to type more ;) . Just kidding.

UPDATE 31.XII.2006: I got off my arse and wrote a readme and walkthrough for the demo.

Ah, I see, thanks for making roger remind me of this thread  ;D

I tried the demo - it's quite nice... but, of course, very short. And you should probably think about setting the room transition style to 'Instant' - this fade in/out doesn't quite fit IMO. And you should probably make searching more, well, user friendly. I tried webspace, webhosting and ftp  := before visitng the walkthrough

Right, in case anyone's interested in this, after that horrible demo. Today, I'm starting a mad dash to finish it. I've already finished the first two days, everything should go smoothly now.

Oh, and two more things:
- The search engine is now more friendly, with nice hints.
- The room transition is instant now.

i just hope to get a beta tester or two when I'm done, and get someone to do a little theme tune.

Thanks, and keep checking the first post for progress reports!

Oh, and I forgot to mention that, unlike the demo, the full version will have lots of hints, which means that puzzles'll be easier. At least I hope so...
