Etcher Squared Games

Hello gaming fans...

My name is Bryan and my fake company name is
Etcher Squared Games.

the website (not much of one) is
www.geocities.com/etchersquaredgames/index.html

My first toy game I am making I call
Sierra Quest 1: Roberta in Love

the game follows a young Roberta Williams while she is trying to come up with ideas for her gaming company to convince a loan officer to give her the needed money.

I hope this screen link works:
(Now a jpg file...)

This is my first game using AGS and is short and for practice, but should be silly and fun.

With a learning curve I'm hoping to have it finished by September 1st, because I'm building, drawing, programming everything by myself.

For future projects I have friends that will help me.

--------------UPDATE 8-19-2004------------------
Intro is done.
Main portion of game is done.

left to do:
a game time cutscene needs added
The last ~3 actions of game need to be configured.
The final cutscene needs to be done.

I could be done with my game (- music of any sorts) by the end of this weekend assuming no deal breaking problems come up.

--------------UPDATE 8-21-2004------------------

I'm done coding the game and before I "officially" release it I'd like people to play it.

Anyone want to make my website for free?

Kinoko

Sounds interesting, but is there any chance you could make those screenshots jpg or gif? Bmp is just a pain in the ass :P

aa

ok, i'm about to head to work, I'll convert later tonight...

I'm not much of a drawer, so the graphics aren't great. Ã,

I'll also change the main post once I get the JPG up..

Etcher Squared Games

Oh, I just saw in the rules that I am allowed to bump this thread, so here you go.

I'm done coding and have run through the game to death myself.

I would appreciate more eyes to look at it though.

The first main posting has the information to where to get it.

I'm hoping the AGS community and my programmer co-workers will help debug this for me.

I would like to call this an official release on Aug 31, so call this beta mode right now.

thank you for playing my first training game in advance...

Hey. I looked at your screenshot and I was thinking maybe you would like some help? I am good with paint and can draw you a good background. Just Private Message me and I can help.

Etcher Squared Games

I know you said private message, but I want to post it here...

Yes, I drew this in mspaint (then psp).

Yes, the graphics aren't the best.  I know that.

I just wanted to learn the engine.  For future projects I've got some  people who are going to draw for me.  But I will definatly keep you in mind if I need something in the future.

Thank you :)

I just tried your game, and here is

:) what I like:

The idea is really cool. Any long-time Sierra fan should have a laugh on this one. I relly, really liked the dialog wiht Al Lowe!

The story is well chosen for a (very) short game - I can recomend it for a quick, entertaining session.

As far as I noticed no bugs or anything.

Ã,  :( what I didn't like:

As you already stated yourself - the graphics. They are way to "unfinished" even for the old 386SX-Sierra game's style. Sorry.

The emptyness of the rooms - there is just not enough details for my liking. And related to this - the long walks over the "dead" street (especaily as one is sent back and back again to collect more ideas)

;D my suggestions (not saying I know it better, just some thoughts that came up):

make all the "idea-rooms" accessible from one central room (like, a town center square in front of the bank, with streets going away).

Leave less screenspace between the interactible areas.

Maybe you could set the walk-off lines not so closeto the edge - it is not very enjoyable playing in window mode and klicking around the screenedge, trying to tell Roberta to change the room.

I can't wait what you will come up with next! Keep it up! :D

Hmm?

Uh, isn't bumping moving the topic to the top? And doesn't he understand what bumping is?
Moving at superhigh speed getting to the planet called Earth. But it is boxed in white......thing.....

MistrWrd

That was rather nice though... What the heck is the title about?

hmmm
I thought more people would get it...

Ok, here it is.

Do a search on the web for a movie called
"Shakespeare in Love"

now do a search on a film students project called
"George Lucas in Love"

then you'll understand

QuotePosting a reply is fine too though, and is necessary to bump the thread.
:P

Yeah I get the title. Nice idea for a game. I havn't played it yet, but it is a cool concept.

wpowell

I want to be a beta tester but I have not been able to do it because your website is not in the proper working order so if you can fix your new website, send an attachment of the game to willcaleb@yahoo.com, or getting another place to download it from then I will beta test. Good luck with the game looks like it will be just like a Leisure Suit Larry style game, I am going to love it. Thanks hopely it will be freeware not commercial (I can't stand when people use AGS to make commercial games).
