Vohaul Strikes Back - looking for an AGS engineer with free time

Oh. Hello.

I'm gonna start off by breaking the "ONE thread per game only!" rule here. Technically there is an older thread for it, but it's from over 4 years ago. So I'm gonna go by the "DO NOT dig up old threads!!" rule instead. Also, pcj (who started the previous thread) is pretty busy these days and might not always be around to edit the old post.

Right then, let's get to the point. We find ourselves in a fairly odd situation. The progress report should illustrate it rather well:

- graphics 90-95%
- dialogue/puzzles 95%
- programming/assembly 5%
- music/sound 90%
- voices 5%

As you can see, we've pretty much got through most of the traditional hard parts (in other words, the graphics), but then got stuck trying to put it all together. Our main AGS engineer, pcj, no longer has time to actively work on the project. And the rest of us don't have a lot of time or AGS experience either.

Anyone interested?

If yes, reply here and tell us how much AGS experience and/or free time you have. A good combination of both would be most excellent.

If not, here's some more required elements of this post that may or may not change your mind:

Plot outline

Some time after SQ6 (possibly after SQ7 as well if it ever comes out), Vohaul is resurrected as a robot. And he strikes back. At Roger. Who then strikes back at Vohaul for striking back. Basically, a lot of backs get striked and in the end, (SPOILER ALERT!) the good guys win.

You should play Vohaul Strikes Back and Incinerations (they both happen to be fan made Space Quest sequels made with AGS).
And then tell everybody on the planet about them. And off the planet.

SpacePaw

I can try in my free time - it would be a good practice for me :) I'm ok with the coding part ^.^
I'm avalible here on the forums and under spacepaw@hotmail.com.
I'm from europe so mind that when it comes to the time :)

Edit: As for the exp - I'm good with programing in C# C++ and stuff, I examined the AGS scripting language and it's nothing hard to code :P I will do just fine :). Free time? Whenever I don't feel like doing my school projects ^^"

Layabout

Nice backgrounds. I hope you can do the series justice with your fangame.
I am Jean-Pierre.

Great bg art, the character doesn't match that quality 100% but the game overall looks promising and a beauty
Worked on Strangeland, Primordia, Hob's Barrow, The Cat Lady, Mage's Initiation, Until I Have You, Downfall, Hunie Pop, and every game in the Wadjet Eye Games catalogue (porting)

Can you show some more of the character stuff, as in the first image it really looks ugly compared to the beautifull background and image 2..

Sure can. Check out the new link at the end of the first post.

As for the character style, we have a large amount of animation in the game and trying to have the same style as the backgrounds on every single frame would've been madness (and a perfect way to kill the project).

Instead, at this point we have the entire game animated by just one guy (Datadog), which I think is pretty impressive.

Looking at the simulated animation it looks great, so I got to see the 'big picture' instead of only that one screenshot.. and I agree doing the animation in the same style as the background would have been much more work (but ofcourse it would look much better.. hehe..).. anyway, great work done by only one animator..

Man, that simulation's looking sweet. Love the character style myself - the look really reminds me of Discworld II.

If nobody else is particularly interested I'd be happy to do the programming - I admit I'm yet to complete a game but I've messed around with all of the AGS features and I've got two short games that are about 50% done. It'd be quite interesting to work on a project where all the graphics have been done, because I actually have the opposite issue where I don't have enough graphical material to make the kind of stuff I want to. One caveat is that I also like writing, so I'll *probably* suggest a fair bit of new dialogue so you should consider whether or not that would get on your nerves.

Also, I hope this project hasn't been anywhere that Vivendi is likely to find it...

Really looks very interesting. Available at full tiem currently, but finishing my game yet, so i will be at your services next month.

This looks and sounds GREAT man, I'm really looking forward to this. If you need any help, I'd love to help out.

I should probably note that SpacePaw is already on the team.

However, we don't mind having more than one guy doing all the put-together-....ing, as long as we/you figure out a proper way to collaborate on that without everything turning into an out-of-sync mess.

Anybody got an SVN repository lying around by any chance?

Also, please leave at least your e-mail and/or MSN address when applying.
