Title: X-missions: Pacific Islands
Post by: Sim on Mon 12/01/2004 02:25:12
Hi,

I finally have a demo ready to go.Ã,  The website is having a few issues at the moment
so an alternative set of links are available below.Ã,  It's a 3-part rar achive so just download
all 3 files into the same directory and double-click on the exe to extract the files.

I would put time estimations in here but I'm not sure of my plans for the rest of the game
yet.

Hi All...

I've been working on a demo for a game I've designed. Ã, So here it is.

X-Missions: Pacific Islands revolves around the main character Jake Hunter,
A technical specialist for an anti-terrorism team whos job it is to travel the world
tracking down targets no matter where or what the task.

This particular mission involves the team tracking down a known terrorist
organisation to a location in the Pacific Islands. Ã, It is believed the organisation's
HQ is based on a small island somewhere and they have in their control a weapon
accused of knocking out satellites and destroying cities. Ã,

Your job is to locate and destroy this weapon as well as uncovering the identity of the mysterious head of the organisation.

Final game features:

- classic 320x200 resolution art in high colour
- multiple game locations including beach front, forrests,
Ã, mountain tops, underwater scenes and a huge underground complex.
- Linear and non-linear gameplay;
- over 40 screens and just as many puzzles
- ability to pick up character "friends" along the
Ã, way to aid you in your mission.

These look pretty darn good!

It sounds like an interesting game concept.  I'm interested to see how you pull it off.

I know this isn't the Critics Lounge but ...

The second screenie, the lighting effect on the forground element jumped out at me!  The tree in the background has the 'blue' light coming from the left and the forground has it coming from the right ... it just looks a little off in my opinion.  I would have just made the forground element in sillouette (just my $.02).

But bang up job man!  These look like you spent a good ammount of time on them.  And that's the important thing.  I spend hours upon hours tweeking and perfecting my bgs!

I can't wait for this one. Looking good.

How do you create such backgrounds?

Thanks for your feedback.  I sketch my pics out, then scan and colour them
using Paint Shop Pro.  I then go over it with the airbrush tool with a low
opacity setting to create a smooth blending effect.

You're right about the foreground lighting - there's more I should probably
do like add a few shadows in and soften the edge between the base of the
tree and the dirt.  Most of the detailing for my screens should be sorted out in time for the demo.
